The Tiger and the Monk - The Secrets of Nature

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Wat Pa Luangta Bua is a monastery of meditation, situated far away from any civilization, about 200 kilometers west of Bangkok, and here, silence, peace and harmony reign. Every afternoon, a daily ritual is observed -- nonchalant Buddhist monks take their ten 3-5 year old tigers out on a leash for a walk through the bordering region of Burma. They dote upon their tigers, feed them and celebrate them as their most sacred animal. The monks treat grown-up animals with reverence and respect although they cuddle and play with the cubs.
The tigers were once the "aristocrats" of the jungle of South East Asia but today, this undisputed ruler of the animal kingdom is one of the most endangered species in the world. Three of the eight subspecies are already extinct, a fate that could also overcome the others. Only an estimated 500 to 2000 tigers of Indochina still inhabit the intact jungle regions of South China, Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Vietnam. This documentary portrays the harmonious relationship between predators and humans without disregarding the monk's maxim that "a tiger will always be a tiger, even if it feeds from the hand. It will always be a wild animal".

Buddha taught us to train the mind to "Radiate boundless love towards everything and every being just like a mother loves her only child." Even king cobras feel this love, without condition, no judgement no identity no division. According to Metta Sutra

I just watched and thought what an amazing documentary and what wonderful work was being done by the monks and the monastery. I noticed it was from 2014 and Googled for an update, I see it was closed by the Thai authorities in 2020 and 137 tigers were confiscated. They found tiger cubs in jars of formaldehyde, frozen tiger pelts, tiger bones etc and said the monks were making more than $3 million per year from the tourist trade and illegal trafficking. What a sad and horrible end to such a captivating and inspiring documentary that once again proves money and greed are the root of evil.

Humans are the absolute worst beings in all of creation. It is so sad and pathetic how even in the age of information and such advancements, we not only let greed get the best of us, but we do so at the cost of precious wildlife. I really have no more hope for our species cause if history taught us anything, it's that human nature not matter how further we evolve, will always remain flawed. There is no cure for this. No superior education nor knowledge will fix us. We will always be what we were meant to be. Merciless, vile creatures.

Hats off to all laymen workers looking after the animal heaven on earth. The look on that tourist's face after stroking the tiger says it all; to come so close to such a wild creature is more than remarkable. The monks are not foolish. They recognise that the tigers are wild and take due precautions. I have read round the subject of monks being able to cohabit with wild animals but seeing it in practice is truly breathtaking. This is one of the most remarkable films I have ever seen, a beacon of hope for our fractured world, where endangered animals and humans can find a way of living together.

For everyone saying what the monks are doing to tame the tigers without any drugs is "Godly" - Look at this huge male lion in the video. If you raise a lion/ tiger from his infancy, to be like a dog.. It will 99% act like a dog. You feed it, bathe it and let it get use to humans 0 it won't be much different from a pet. The 1% is the small instances of accidents - where it remembers it is a predator.. It's natural instinct. Look at this video and tell me I am lying. This Huge Male lion is practically acting like a pet dog but the zoo keepers are NOT BUDDHIST MONKS!. - kzread.info/dash/bejne/nYyclM-oeLCXiLA.html

Boss Lady Thai people, generally, have the best attitude towards animals. I was in northern Thailand and was amazed how few stray animals they had and strays were cared for by the shopkeepers and all the people working in whatever area a stray decided to settle in their daily roam. A lot of strays would lay in the middle of the road and people would just be mindful of them and go around. Certain monasteries would feed hundreds of cats or dogs every evening and lots of people would watch for this daily ritual. The animals run free and are accepted, loved and cared for. I really like Thai people so much ! Btw, I have discovered the same thing this Abbot knew about tigers. Cats really respond well to being spoken with, not telling them directions, but just talk to them about life, reassuring them about their wellbeing, be playful, once they know they can trust you, you will constantly be discovering what loving, intelligent creatures they are !
