THE TERRIBLE TALE OF THE WOOLFOLK FAMILY, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.

PART 13 -- ON OUR ADVENTURES SOUTHEAST (Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia & South Carolina).
🟡 It is said the Allman brothers would come here to Rosehill Cemetery to compose music. You saw during this episode the white marble statue of Martha Ellis. It is commonly believed that she was namesake of the song "Little Martha", the twelve-year-old girl whose grave the Allman Brothers Band most likely came across during their frequent trips to Rose Hill Cemetery in their homebase here in Macon, Georgia. "Little Martha" was the only Allman Brothers Band track written solely by group leader and partial namesake Duane Allman.

THIS STORY:
Five years before Lizzie Borden and her axe became famous, nine members of the Woolfolk family were killed with an axe at their home near Macon in Georgia’s first mass murder.
Richard Woolfolk, his wife Mattie, their six children, and a visiting relative, were all slaughtered as they slept. Suspicion immediately fell on Tom Woolfolk, Richard’s 27-year-old son from a previous marriage. Tom was the only family member not killed.
MUSIC:
I chose to include the Allman Brothers' song "Little Martha" in this episode. Since we were unable to obtain copyright permission to use, we had turned off our monetization option (money) and all proceeds from this episode will go directly from KZread to the song's copyright holder.
That's just OK. It's all worth it - for our viewers.
Enjoy.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

As if, the Civil War wasn’t horrific enough along comes good ole Tom with a bad attitude! I’ve never heard of this awful story. So, seeing “Little Martha” and the Red Fox almost made it bearable. Really interesting story, sad but interesting. Thank you Ron! May all these beautiful souls RIP for eternity.

The statement about Tom..."There's nothing too mean for him to do.." Sounds like my birth mothers father... Sometimes evil just is. I'm not sure of a better way to put it. Even that long ago..That BROKE MY HEART!! A whole family with babies and elders...my heart couldn't take it..I'll bet the tears on that day were enough from everyone to form a small brooke. @@KindCountsDeb3773 Deborah, my father owned the realty company that rented the Big House to Berry Oakley. The house belonged to my great aunt. My aunt had left a large dining room table in the attic when she moved to Virginia. Berry and the guys brought it down to use in the house. Berry autographed my Eat a Peach album before he died. My grandmother and my aunt went over there one day and met your cousin Red Dog. She told me about it. The neighbors were always complaining about the noise coming from the house. I answered the phone at my Dad's office, I remember it well. When the house was vacated, I drove over there and collected memorabilia that was left behind. Just thought you might enjoy the story.

It makes me sad to think of the stories left untold that will eventually be lost. The ones of the living day to day folks who loved, struggled, raised children, told jokes, looked at the same stars as me, and are now gone - with so many stories left untold. Strange the convict could afford to purchase a souvenir photo, but perhaps he did odd jobs or picked a pocket. Tom definitely had the motive & had always been known to be twice as mean as anyone else. Strange that he threw his clothes in a well. He had blood specks in his ears but no wounds. If I were about to be hanged & I was innocent, I’d be cursing everyone there & yelling I was innocent until I dropped. He just told the Marshall goodbye! Really sounds like the people were right in believing Tom did it. What a terrible thing for all of them to be so viciously killed.

I went back to reread this story. I think there's no doubt Tom did it. Nothing was said about investigators going to the well to try to retrieve the clothes. He probably threw the ax down there too. It looks like he got so angry over his Dad's new family getting some of the inheritance and he just killed everyone. I am a murder mystery obsessive. Thanks for your hard work. I really love your channel.

Your commentary is so professional. I don't know how you can keep your emotions intact like you do. I would be a blubbering mess seeing all those precious children laying in the ground and knowing how they died. Kudos to the Col. for restoring the graves and thank you for showing that he did so. Evil has always been and will always be with us in this life, but stories like this make us in this make us remember just how horrific it can be. I shudder to think how anyone could do such an awful thing knowing they must face their maker with this on their conscience. May the Woodford family rest in peace. I am glad justice was done.
