The Tamiya Bonehead Motors Notshot Build

So, I did what I said I was not going to do… I bought a Hotshot II BHM kit. I did, however, change it up enough that I am fine with it, and I added my own little flair and humor to it. I hope you all can appreciate the slightly jabbing humor as well. Let me know what you think down below of the Bonehead Motors Notshot!!!
You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

Yeah the bright yellow dampers were a bit clashing with the light blue body. I had planned on doing it in an old school paint livery but when I thought of the BoneHead livery I had to do it. I am sure the blue shocks on your works a lot better! The odd burgundy mine turned worked well enough for the odd-ball theme but are not going to fit in with much else LOL!!! Thanks for stopping by and checking it out! Take care and have a great rest of your week.

Looking great Addam. I had the same not-again-feeling as they announced it. Like the big T's milking the Blockhead cow to death. Great you putted your personal touch to the buggy. Hemm, I like the high roof. The former ZZ-Top-Ford design of the windshield wasn't my favorite and one of the reasons (beside some more important ones) I bought the Super Hot Shot was a bigger window, by lowering the edge of the body at that spot.😊

Than Dirk, I had fun with this one for sure. I enjoyed poking some fun at myself and Tamiya with it. I guess it kind of like the new TD4 Avante, the deign of it was not anything like the real Avante so they could have easily used another name for it and still sold a bunch. This one could have just been the Hotshot BHM edition and it would have been better accepted instead of being a modified version of the HS2. I don't know, we all have our own views and opinions and that is why it is so cool to have so much variety in the hobby we have, there is literally something for everyone. This one felt a little wonky to me and struck a nerve for some reason (mainly that they have never re-released the original and then came out with this modified version first) but I was able to make it into something fun and I enjoyed. I am glad you enjoyed it and the buggy certainly is growing on me and I like it the way it turned out, we will see what I can come up with for the new body set once it arrives!

Iol great spin Addam! I love everything tamiya to be honest its all good with me but do agree about the rollcage and plates also good points! All the Shots main signature is their aggressive looks and the low roll cage is a massive part of that! When all is said and done yours is definitely something very different! Brilliant buddy you certainly have a unique buggy compared to most of the other BHM HS2 about for sure! Cheers James.

But this one is growing one me especially after I rearranged the livery a bit! It was kind of fun poking a bit of fun at myself and at the big T! I got the new body in today and I hope to try and figure out the paint scheme for it soon. I want to try and do something that looks from the era but not anything near box art at all, more race car themed. I doubt there is another Notshot out there yet and I had a fun time creating it! I love your spin on this, and I love a good rant! Well said and some really good points on those quality issues, it definitely looks like they rushed it onto the market, which is of course criticizable. My rant on this is probably even worse than yours, I should do a video on it, but this is a short version: What's so cool about mass producing someone else's custom work? Apparently people are paying big money for these kits that have a bit of different colour and stickers, plus a few extra items screwed onto them... We could just as easily do that ourselves, and you just proved that. Nice video as always, buddy!

I am much happier with my silly version of it though. I get the excitement about something new and unique but they lost the unique feature with this one by doing the same basic look. I really hate the bolt on number plates still! I know we all have different tastes and ideas about cars and some will love it and some will hate it. That is the cool thing about the hobby is I can complain and grumble about this one but there are 12 more coming out that I want so there is always something for everyone. I do really hope that in a couple months they release the regular version of this for those that don't want the BHM version and I really hope it has the traditional roofline. I would have liked it more if they had not tinkered with the car itself and had re-released this one prior. It seemed a bit unfair to release a BHM version on a previously unreleased kit and also modify one the the most signature things about the buggies profile. They have such a fleet of kits to promote via the BHM editions, why choose this one that collectors really want an original. I know a lot of folks that want an original to complete their HS collection and and cannot afford vintage prices thee days. I feel like they are ignoring their main demographic for the re-re market. That said, you are 1000% correct and there is something out there for everyone at this point in the hobby! If you can think of it there s a kit already out or one you can use to make it with to have whatever you want. I did have fun with this one and enjoyed poking a bit of fun at myself and at the big T over it. I did also get the new TBG body for it yesterday so I need to sit down and actually figure out wat the paint scheme is going look like! @@AddamsPlayground Definitely with you regarding the buggies profile/cab mate.... that was a bizarre move? I do like the look of both of the blockhead releases, but would not buy either as I'm old school, and very set in my ways, it's all about the nostalgia for me. I would however buy a hotshot 2 re re providing it is close enough to the original. Personally, I feel we will see the hotshot 2 re released some time in the future..... it makes full sense economically, and dare I say Tamiyas marketing team know how utilise as much profit from the consumer as possible. Releasing the two the other way around would probably see less demand for the blockhead edition if it were released 'after' the hotshot 2 re re. Makes sense from a business module point of view, however, many of Tamiyas decisions in more recent years really seem to be 'against the grain' of their target audience (mainly people of our age reliving their childhood!) I mean, how many times do you hear/read comments requesting re releases of the 959,Celica GRB, King cab, monster racer,Madcap, Falcon etc etc. The demand is so high for these kits, surely it would be a lucrative venture, high demand = high turnover = high profit!!! 🤑 Instead, we just get more TT02 based cars, and various different colour editions of kits that have been re released time and time again! The flip side is it is also nice to have mint examples of rare cars that haven't been re released, it certainly makes them more special. But then no one else gets the chance to experience them, and if you are lucky enough to own one, parts availability is near impossible, and they become just to precious to run and enjoy. I personally would LOVE to see the original Astute re released, exactly as it was back in the day..... been hunting for a mint one with box for ages. Don't fancy my chances, but the thrill of the hunt is very alluring! Oh my, sorry, do seem to have gone off on a bit of a rant here! 🤣 Anyway dude, love what you done with your humerous take on the Bonehead edition, and great work by your youngling with the decals! Yeah I think that is the root of my issues with it is that they chose to release this as the BH version when they have never re=release this kit prior. There are a lot of folks that want one in their collection to finish off their HS collection and cannot afford to buy and restore a vintage one. Why they decided to do this on this platform is beyond me. Maybe they thought it would increase the sales of it. I think it backfired as they are in stock sitting on shelves almost everywhere and not one constant back order the Wild One was. Who knows their thinking but I hope they learned a little something from it!

Thank Lionel! I had fun doing the spoof them for this one. On one hand I felt bad since it was kind of mocking the BHM and I do like what Jun does and he has come up with some cool stuff but on the other hand I felt like this one belly flopped into the kiddy pool hard! I know there are folks that truly love it and I get it but as a collector of new and old this felt like a bit of slap in the face to the old school folks and collectors to both release it as the BHM and to rearrange the roll cage like they did. They could have picked any number of kits already in production or that have already been re-released to tamper with, why this one many people have never had a chance to own. I think we will always be wondering what they are thinking and planning over the at the big T but as always there will be hits and misses from them. I am glad you got a laugh out of it and it seems most everyone else did to so that was well worth the price of the kit!

I like them much more than the bright yellow with the blue. The rear guard is a Lexan part that comes pre-painted with the it. it thought is was aluminum too but the rear piece and the front windscreen/deflector are both painted Lexan parts. Agree on the color the same as the wild one, the wild one looks stunning but this not so much and the number plates are ugly and that roof line is so high to me it makes it look cheap looking more like a toy it looks mean with the low roof line and sleek I don't know why they changed it!

I have to say the roofline is growing on me but I will never call it a Hotshot as they all had the forward slanted roof. this is just a member of the hotshot family of chassis! The number plates i felt were terrible and looked to be a complete after thought. We will have to see if the re-release this as the original or they release it with the proper roofline. Love it!!! I would have to say that it is not boneheaded enough though. It was built too perfectly. You need to reverse the motor and/or steering to make it go full bonehead! Put the stickers on upside down or mount the body inside out? Something really boneheaded! 👍 Having said that...I think you may need a custom driver? Perhaps a true bonehead???

I also keep seeing myself on the shelf down there and knowing I need to get it out for a drive still. Like you, my distractions get distracted by distractions!! I had planned on waiting to see if they were going to do the re-re of this later on but then I saw them sitting around in stock everywhere so I thought up this silly design so I caved and bought it. I think I could have done some more bonehead things to it, the steering was reversed when I first fired it up! I did get the new body from TBG in today so I have to figure out what the paint scheme is going to be be. It will be retro for sure but I am nut sure if it will be "team driver" looking or "classic cool" looking. Although the Bonehead look is growing on me! LOL! Take care my friend and I hope everything is going well and you are busy tinkering away up there!

Still waiting on a clear body for this… it was on the TamiyaUSA site, no price, but was then taken down. I emailed Tamiya back when it was on the site and they said it would most likely be available a month after release… When it disappeared off their site I emailed them again, and they said they would email me when it was available. We shall see. I’d love to paint my own body like I did with the BHM Wild One. I think it’s going to sit in the box for awhile for me.

I got the reproduction body from Team Blue Groove in today. It takes about 10-15 days or so to get one from them depending on where you are in the US. They are much thicker bodies than the Tamiya shells too. Tamiya is very slow to re-stock stuff so it may be a fairly long wait through them. I hope you get one and get it customized they way you want. I have to sit down and figure out what in the world mine is going to look like! I am thinking retro racer looking but who knows! take care!

@@AddamsPlayground I got an 1/18th scale Porsche 959 for my Micro RS4 from them (made a video about it), good stuff. I thought about the TBG body, but didn’t know if there was something special or different about the BHM one. For sure the TBG one doesn’t come with all the other stuff from the BHM kit. The thing that’s frustrating is it’s not a re-stock thing… it’s a never-stocked-it issue. I had gotten my Wild One body from Tamiya. So I’ll wait a little longer.

I had a good time doing the spoof theme on it and I I had known it was going to turn out as neat as it did I would have done a few things different and made it a bit cleaner looking with the decals! I mean, I sort of get what you're on about but this is Tamiya. They're expected to be from the '80s. If you don't like it, you change it. Blockheads are supposed to look and feel alike. I'm building a Wild One Blockhead at the moment (which is why I stumbled on to your channel) and it is definitely not going to be stock! This is a fun in-between-the-projects-build for me and I am most definitely not going to pretend that it is a ferrari that you can not modify because the big guy of the company says it's perfect in the first place. I mean, I don't like Ferrari Rosso Corsa either. I think it's a lazy choice. 😏

If you look at Jun's cars and trucks they have a general theme of sorts but they are all various color schemes with various custom touches. I felt the white, blue and yellow was a very lazy way to go. Those numbers plates look like a complete afterthought and I am salty about them tampering with the signature design of the cage.i had fun coming up with the silly theme for it and poking some fun at myself and Tamiya too. The look of it has grown on me, especially without the billboard number plates on it. I will be doing the custom paint job on it at some point but I'll never call it a Hotshot! I'm glad you stopped by and checked it out and left a good comment. I enjoy hearing everyone's thoughts on things and things we like and dislike. It is a great hobby that allows us to do things our own way or the intended way and everything in between!! Take care.

I'm patiently waiting for Tamiya to rere the Hotshot 2, I just didn't like the Blockhead version. You've done a good job with yours though. Would it be possible to lower the roof height yourself?

  • @AddamsPlayground

    @AddamsPlayground

    Жыл бұрын

I am hoping the re-re will be with the lower roof line. I am still confused why they didn't just include a separate roll cage tree in the kit to allow you to choose your look but nope. It is funny how then grey Clod came out with a bunch of additional parts trees in the box due to needing one or two pieces off of them so I know it can't cost much to include two small trees in there! There is really not a good way to lower it yourself. You could possibly do it for pure show but I can't see it holding up. I do think the Hotshot (or the Superhot cage) will fit on there. I am hoping for the re-re and that it will be correctly done and I plan on getting that. This one will be the un-named odd cousin of the hotshot family!
