Tamiya Wild One Blockhead Build and Tips

Tamiya Wild One Blockhead Build and Tips
I had been waiting for this kit for some time as it was backordered and right when I was able to build it we got really busy before the holidays and it was very hard to find time to build and record. I lost a bit of footage but it was not worth re-recording it as I had pretty much covered everything. Stay until the end to see some good up-close pics and a tease for the running video upcoming soon!
You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

Man, I appreciate hearing that! You have it better than I do, you only have to watch me dribble on for 10-15 minutes usually. I have to listen to it over and over again for hours while editing it! So there are some videos where I am sick of hearing myself blabber on about things but it is comments like this that make all that worth it, so again, I really do appreciate that. Thanks for stopping by and for checking in!

LOL, yeah, I am a little late to the show but think I got in there with some decent tips! The lights really make it cool and late evening they work pretty well with all 4 lit up. Would not go full speed in the dark, but for casual driving in the dusk/dark it works surprisingly well. Appreciate the job well done and thanks for stopping by and checking in!@

It is a great looking car, either the BH version or the original version! The shocks do hold it back some but since it was such a scale buggy I think they wanted to keep the shocks on the smaller, more true to real life size. I am sure you could upgrade them to something a bit bigger and the handling would improve a lot!

  • @AddamsPlayground

The number plates are a unique touch and sets it apart from the original. I think they could have done a whole lot better with them to make them fit better and have a spot for the screw to recess in so it doesn't bulge the stickers. I think the should have cast them in the same gray or yellow plastic as the buggy and it would have been a lot nicer. I could go either way with the lights but since I had the LEDs here I am kind of glad they had the 4 up front since I does offer usable light now with the 4 up there. Took it out in the dark to test it and they actually work pretty well, won't run it at full speed but they worked surprisingly well. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out!

hmm. I think you may have tipped me over onto the 'buy' side! Also, yes that whole helmet crease annoys me too! thought I was special but hey... you're so right about the front shock and rear panel oversights - for a company like Tamiya been going for at least 40 years or more its a bad oversight, Also lights = ace! and I like it like you do, front white and a little blinky on the back like in race mode! Not too flashy and drifting-racer-boy over the top LEDs but just a bit of a highlight to enhance = class

Can’t get enough of this buggy. I’ll never tire of looking at it. Well done on the lights! I also agree that the number plates could’ve been done better. The flathead screws are pointless when there’s no recess on the plates. It bothers me a little when i see them protrude from under the decals.

Yes!! If they had cast it in the same plastic as the cage and made it fit correctly it would have been perfect and the screws would not have been an issue and the edges of the sticker would not get damaged in roll overs. Simple fix but I guess it was going to cost too much...

I do love the original and wanted one for some time so when this was announced I started saving the $$ for it! I do think they missed a few things that could have easily been improved and made it better, mainly those number plates. If they had cast those in plastic and made them fit better it would be much better. Also I should not have to source my own fix for a bad shack perch design, but I think most of the RC community are a resourceful bunch so I made it work and moved on. would have been nice to not have to fix the shortcomings of it but in the end it looks great and is fun to drive so I am still happy. I think it looks awesome! Certainly want to pick one of these up in the future. I've never painted any lettering on tires. What type of what type of marker or paint type for paint type is best to use?? And will it stay on even while running the vehicle?

  • @AddamsPlayground

    @AddamsPlayground

    2 жыл бұрын

Thanks, it is a sharp looking kit for sure. For the tire lettering I use a sharpie ultra fine tip oil paint marker, I got mine from Amazon. I am sure you can find them in craft stores as well. The paint does wear off and will need to be reapplied occasionally. If you run it on grass and loose dirt it should last a couple runs. Hard track racing one run will do it in from all the hard cornering. I have so many now they don't get run too often so the lettering lasts a bit longer for me. Even if it is once, just for the glamour shots before running it can be worth it!!

I think it would be a Charlie Brown ride due to the blockhead name. It would probably break down all the time and get left in the dust but eventually would get there...

@@AddamsPlayground I see what you mean about it being Charlie Brown's ride. I was totally thinking that at first. But this is the part that confuses me...the car is blue which is the colour Lucy wears. That is what is making me lean towards it being Lucy's car; but it has to have Charlie Brown strapped to the front of it to make the 'Blockhead' name make sense. Hhmmmm....

I’m torn between this one and the bbx?

That is a tough one! The BBX is a more modern platform and can handle brushless power easily and will accept most lipo packs. The Wild One just looks great and is still a great buggy, just a little dated as far as the drivetrain and suspension. Since I am mainly an old school guy I'd go for the Wild One. You'll enjoy either one!!

I do really like the look of this one. The Original Wild One will be back out in a couple months so you may have to decide if you like the old school look or the new blockhead style! I am debating myself if I need to get the original one or not. I might! Take care!
