I did exactly the same until getting the first fan working (using Bunny Hop rather than the Static Vexter). After that, I kept playing with the external rays from Bunny Hop...from here I changed the ray from blue to red - that way you'll only need 1 single connector (not 3) to keep the box+connector up in the air - the solution on the video and other I've seen require too many moves and connector transfers...using the box+connector in the centre combined with an external souce (Bunny Hop or Static Vexter) is a lot more efficient to get both fans working (probably from Bunny Hop switching from blue to red and back is easier).

Am I a genius or stupid? I did all that without the help of the other level laser
