By 8 years old, I had flown back and forth on airplanes so many times (traveling back and forth between divorced parents during holidays and such), I had known many such things the average Joe wouldn't know. Subways are something one uses considerably more often, so there is no doubt an 8 year old would figure something simple like the red-green lights out.

There’s supposed to be brakes on all the trains, but the passengers weren’t aware that the hijackers set the throttle and jumped off the train. They were under the impression that the driver would stop the train at the end of the line.

There was a backup track signaling system at the terminus of Coney Island. When the train went up to the 60-mph mark, pushing 65 mph, the track speed anomaly is automatically relayed to first the terminus track signals, turning them all red--and then, the signals 1 or 2 stations before that turn red also, and if the train fails to stop or slow down at that point they turn red, the braking system activates. That's my analysis.

we railfans hate when movies just do the wrong thing like mix one train model with another and putting a route to a destination that's literally impossible for it to go to it just pisses us off man why can't they just get anything right

I agree with all of this. The same mistake happened in the Subway Sharks scene in Sharknado 2. Like, the station the 7 train stopped at when the emergency brakes were activated was 96 STREET! It is very obvious that the 7 Train does not run via Seventh Ave, and, how would they even get the train ON to the Seventh Ave Line? Future movies that include the NYC Subways really need to not make these mistakes.

In an anime movie called love live, it showed an r62a shuttle train on the N Q R and W line at time’s square with an r142a sound effect

This movie was by Tony Scott Not John Travolta

It was a little bit like playing a pinball game. That runaway train. The dead-man's switch. This was almost like the reliving of the "Silver Streak" movie involving another runaway. But I saw something that led to the Positive Train Control on some trains later on. Just 1/2 miles from Coney Island station, there was a kickback trip switch on the R side of the track. Once that detection system detects the dead-man speed as the train passes over it, this anti-derail system pops up the trip, destroying any signal overrides on the train itself, and finally activates the train's emergency brakes. When it braked the distance was probably 500 feet. That was close!

I was on a Toronto subway train, at the very front, when the operator over-ran a red block signal in the tunnel. He must of gotten bored and tried to make a game of "how close can I cut it to the red signals just before they turn green" , but lost in this instance. There was no dramatic squeaky brakes just a normal speed stop in the tunnel but accompanied by loud air release hissing. Operator got out of cab, opened side door with key and went to track level to reset brakes. He was cursing under his breath as he is likely now in trouble and will soon find himself suspended for a few days.

The combined two different rolling stock. And this wouldn’t be possible as r142s are arranged in 5 car sets. This means a single car couldn’t operate on its own
