This is so sad, because they all seemed so happy and now Diana Ross isn't so nice and humble, all the popularity went to her head. Florence was kicked out and forgotten but she was brought back through the internet! Florence's legacy will live on, and I always love to think of the Supremes like this before Diana's ego got... huge.

according to an obsessed british fan Micheal Critchley who was sitting in the first row with his friend during a 1965 glasgow England concert , Mary and Flo eyeballed them . After the concert all 3 girls were whisked away in cab. The two fans followed them by car . The girls turned around in cab and knew they were being followed . Flo stops the cab to talk with them and invited the two brits to the girls hotel. The fan mentions this story in legends Motown invasion documentary. I didnt know the Supremes indulged in that freak stuff.

Oh this interview just breaks my heart---- mentioning the QUEENS of music --- FLORENCE PICKED the name to be SUPREME,,S, --- damn to know what was going to be in the future-- had they all helped one another and did not let greed tear them apart -- THEY WOULD have been the QUEENS OF MOTOWN.. and such success and today--- LEGENDARY AND IMMORTAL.. Johnny Cash was going down-- but June and family kept him from crashing-- like so many other famous singers were lost on drugs and such-- JUST TOO BAD THEY DID NOT STICK BY FLO -- no Gordie thought Diane was a $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ making bird and wanted the eggs to himself... DIDN'T WORK OUT!! Yes she was a good actress-- and should have even got an OSCAR>> for her movie LADY SINGS THE BLUES.. BUT Hollywood WAS not GOING TO LET THEM IN -- AS YOU SAW.... and Diane went back to singing... and such... damn ignorance and greed ruined a perfect trio.. and BTW I know there were subs for the Supremes but-----THERE S NOTIN' LIKE THE REAL THING BABY!!!!!

I agree, but we must remember that this was 1965, a time where Black womanhood was a very new and strange concept. The Supremes, as three Black women, HAD to be plastic to be wholly acceptable. Other Motowners had released singles just years before this that didn't feature their faces on the album art because they were Black. It may have cost them in the long run, but that "plastic quality" was necessary to break down a barrier. Motown was as big a instrument as any in breaking the color line.

@Herald Orome and that's just what happened to them. Not able to do as Ms. Powell required of them. Why do you think Motown later had Diana to answer questions in interviews. It's cute but, talking all together at one time like that is not a professional look for a group that MT was grooming to be a classy group. Not trying to be mean because I love all three ladies and I wouldn't deliberately try to hurt them, but it is true. People fail to remember it doesn't matter who started or chose the name of the group but, that group and that name belonged to Motown. Later Mary had to fight hard to get the rights to the name The Supremes and some gowns to keep other girls from using it.

By way of the Maxine Powell Treatment, this is exactly the kind of superficial, pre-rehearsed and insubstantial type of interview Motown wanted The Supremes -and really all its artists- to give in 1960s. But it was not without prolonged price, that very plastic quality costing the group the serious respect and inquiry of rock and roll critics and authors for years past when they should have had it. But don't blame The Supremes - they were doing as Berry Gordy taught and told them.
