    ….. please, he is not a shady interviewer. He was an older gentleman - he was very polite and I think highly respectful of the three ladies. Those were the times and Diana Ross was very underweight at the time, even though she fit in with the Liverpool look, Twiggy, etc.

So Diane is in her late seventies now. The late Mary and Florence will be the same age. They didn't know how much they were going to change the world. The guy that's hosting probably didn't have any idea that they were gonna be legendary.

And I’ve heard many red state politicians today in 2023 who definitely sound as if they’re from the Stone Age. So leave this gentleman alone. if you don’t like the cultural environment of the time, then go to another video. The rest of us are enjoying this interview where he brings in Florence and Mary into the conversation instead of just following Berry Gordy’s orders in talking solely to DR.

    I was just watching again this clip from June 21st , 1966 when the Supremes were doing concerts in Toronto,Ontario, Canada. The interviewer was Elwood Glover.I have always been disturbed how Florence Ballard's weight was joked about. As a Canadian and Elwood Glover being the same I'm disgusted and ashamed.The trauma Florence went through at 17 years of age which went untreated or acknowledged changed Florence.Back then so often young women a...nd espesically in the music business suffered emotional,physical/sexual/financial abuse.They were just teenagers wanting to be stars, not having any idea what that world was like.They had no supports,resources or such so often either played the game or if left the label were outcast.With the trauma many of these great female R@B/Motown/Soul singers suffered no wonder they turned to drugs/alcohol, suffered depression/anxiety/trauma which went untreated.Along with this physical/domestic abuse never addressed.We look at the abuse Tammi Terrell suffered from James Brown/David Ruffin for example.Really never acknowledged and often singers stating they seen,witnessed the abuse.Like our great Florence Ballard her trauma was never treated,they did not have Concurrent Disorder Treatment programs for Substance/Mental Health nor addressed her trauma she suffered. The women of the era paid the price and it is not a reflection of them but a reality how the male dominated industry mistreated their women who made countless money,fortune and fame for record labels.So when I see posts slighting Florence I take offence as a man do we not have any decency backbone to support what happened to great singers like Flo,Tammi,Tina and others. In this interview Florence to me shows Class 101 ,class is being humble despite rude comments as commented about her weight.Flo was a classy women,talented,strong and that is why we still talk about her and miss her. In a comment about her daughters and ex-husband I read.If I remember the daughters were like 8/8/5 when their mother died.So we look at big picture Florence Ballard was a survivor,a star,a mother,a singer and we still love her today.My only wish is Florence's family,daughters, etc be well,happy and know their mother is not forgotten,we still love her,listen to her music and will keep her legacy alive. God Bless , Jay

    It is very telling how many commenters have left comments about Florence Ballard. It is all starting to come out now what Berry Gordy and Diana Ross did to Florence Ballard. I don't hate Diana Ross but what she did to Florence Ballard was wrong and it's just funny how thanks to the internet it's all coming out now. Florence Ballard was so quiet and seemed to be more in the background but people still loved her. I read that Berry Gordy wanted Florence Ballard, sexually, and she flat out rejected him and after that he basically set about slowly sabotaging her. I also read that Diana Ross was jealous of Florence Ballard because apparently she was wolf whistled at a lot and received the most "male" attention out of all of The Supremes and Diana Ross was jealous of this apparently. Diana Ross knew she was Berry Gordy's second choice after Florence Ballard, she was sloppy seconds, and that made her jealous of Florence Ballard too. Then when Diana Ross got together with Berry Gordy they started conspiring to oust Florence Ballard from *her own* group, and eventually they did. Motown ripped Florence Ballard and a lot of other artists off with unpaid royalties aswell. For a woman who was a member of the best selling Motown group in history to die in near poverty is just fucked up. Florence Ballard should've died in a beautiful house with money. Berry Gordy was a scumbag. Martha Reeves had to take him to court for royalties owed to her aswell.

    So true, I think Diana Ross did give her money though, but it’s a shame that she died poor. She didn’t deserve such a bad ending. Also, she was cheated not only by Berry Gordy, but also by her manager.

    Starting at 4:10 in this video, that was a bad choice of words for Glover to say. Especially when Florence was being, basically harassed by Barry Gordy and others because they viewed her as overweight. As soon as he said it here, she immediately looked a little taken back from it. Then, starting at 4:30, geez! Real nice guy right there. 🤨

    The part where Diana said that they have to pay for their hotel and all the other expenses, we always forget that. Of course, they made lots of money but most of it goes towards the expenses and the label. It's a lot that goes on behind the scenes. Limos and the dresses, the whole glam cost so much money. I think what ever is left over, they get to keep. Im getting destiny child vibes from them. Seeing destiny child in their interview, they had their same mannerism.

Mary later became an allie of Florence when she was dead but when alive and part of the Supremes was duplicitous likely for her own survival reasons.

    @@SassyBratt1 Yes I agree so much of what you said. When Diana left the group Berry Gordy washed his hands regarding supporting them so when Mary told Flo what was happening Mary said Flo told her again that the only one he cared about was Diana. Mary started living what Flo had to live after she was fired from the group. Mary helped Flo as much as she could but said Flo never told her she was losing her house so how is it that it’s rumored Diana tried to save Flo from losing her house? So many different stories. Mary did try to help Flo who was going through inner turmoil when in the group but by the time they had that meeting at Berrys mansion in early 1967 Mary didn’t speak up for Flo only because Diana and Berry met with her first telling her the plans for the group and Flo has to go because she’s drinking too much, missing gigs, etc. Berry told her that he would always take care of her so there you have it. Mary learned from 1970 - 1980 that Berry cared less about her and the ladies who kept the Supremes going then of course after Flo’s death Mary woke up to face reality.

    @@Vincent50 They should have known that a snake is a snake and never believed a word out of Gordy's mouth about taking care of them. They both wanted to believe it because to face reality would have been too scary for them. Had they just faced that reality from day one that he had no intention of putting their wellbeing on his priority list they both would have been much better off and finding ways early on to milk their fame for all it was worth minus waiting for Berry to save them. Mary did well for herself but Florence likely would have had a better outcome too instead of slow poverty creeping in causing her stress and with a very bad heart condition.

  • @Vincent50

    @Vincent50

    @@SassyBratt1 Florence knew he was a scammer after he started changing on her. She was wiser than Mary or maybe not but she spoke up more and was losing that trust in him. They were youngsters when they signed to Motown all 16 so they looked to Gordy like father sort of trusting everything he said but as they grew into their 20s they all started to see things differently. Flo told Mary they both weren’t a priority anymore to Gordy as the money started rolling in and he knew Flo’s attitude turned sour with him because she saw through him so he had to get rid of her. They were able to have Mary agree to his plan with the direction he wanted to take the group escalating Diana. With Mary in agreement his plan took place. Flaunting Cindy in front of Flo was the lowest of lows and Gordy knew Flo would break and he can slide Cindy in her spot and lo and behold it all worked out smoothly. Mary’s guilt riddled her for years because she was ordered to train Cindy all while performing with Flo so when she didn’t speak up for Flo at that meeting poor Flo felt defeated because if there was one person who can help stand up for her it was Mary. Since Mary sided with Gordy and Diana Flo was all by herself and seeing her replacement watching her perform. Humiliation at its worst. No wonder Flo’s mental illness became worst. Having been kicked out the group, signing resignation papers saying she can not promote herself as a former Supreme, no mor royalty payments, a crooked lawyer who stole her money, a creep of a husband, no wonder she died so young. Mary advocated for Flo after she died but it was much too late but one thing she did do. She made the world remember Flo from 1976-2021 keeping her uplifted as the sister Supreme. Mary fought a lot in the business but she kept it going until her end. I applaud her with lots of love.

    I agree, isn't it crazy how we can now look back on these interviews, and see the shade as it comes and know who really is the Bitch in 👠. Damn...I wish somebody would of told ol girl about diana before it was too late

    Oh people, grow up and quit whining! It was a different era, women were judged on their figures back then, but in a joking, good natured way, it was no big deal, nobody screaming about fat shaming, etc. Florence handled it in very mature, sensible manner. Nowadays? There'd be screaming, cursing and lawsuits flying. We can learn something from these older days, when folks had more common sense.

    Diana lied the temptations were the top group. Gtfoh with that "we're the top group." When my girl dropped, the supremes status dropped too
