Well yeah, they lost at least four previous members until Harmony arrived to calm the rage of incredible Violence.
Best part is the newest member they found just in an alley one day Truly it was the power of friendship that found him

According to the original comics author, apparently he used to be a virtue as well along with an additional member that was eventually lost(I think the one that died was Hope), and so he became Incredible Violence.

It's really sad when you realize what happened to the last two people before Incredible Violence.

The REAL "Canon" answer is that it was once Harmony, Friendship, Love, Peace, and Hope... And Peace turned into Incredible Violence.

I think the implication is even sadder. Hope died, and Peace *became* Incredible Violence after (very literally) losing hope
