stoked was definitely my favourite show over td at one point. something about the summer vibes and the chill shenanigans between friends is so warm and fuzzy and fun to watch. and I know he’s kidding mostly but how they all rip into each other and cause chaos makes the dynamics better

As a buildabear employee i will say that the shorts coming off the wipeout costume makes sense, all of our mascot suits have multiple outfits that you can put on over them.

shoutout to everyone else who watched abc3 as a kid and remembers the summer marathons where they played nothing but stoked all day for what felt like weeks

I love multi hour video essays, and i barely remember Stoked existing, this one’s gonna be good i can feel it

I have this show mixed in my head with another surfing show, Blue Water High, which must have been showing around the same time for me. So it was very disconcerting to realise that there was no episode where one of the dudes gets lost in a forest and tries to be a survivalist like his mother's book says but then he realises his mother is a hack and has to be picked up by the teacher character.

I haven’t watched it since I was like 12 but it aired in the 2000s and was such a staple for aussie kid tv. I’m pretty sure it was like a school that the best surfers got to go to and they’d go in competitions and live together and have drama etc. I remember loving it, the eps are on youtube if you look up ‘blue water high’ I’m gonna deep dive into it lol

Grew up criminally obsesssed with tdi and stoked, but didn’t have cable tv so would have to watch it on KZread. BUT every year, on vacation the cabin tv had cable and would play Stoked on ABC3 nonstop. Was hyped for that every year

Pretty sure you're thinking of Syked. In an alternate reality that's what this show was called and it was skaters instead.

The thing about the "haha boys kissing is a joke" era is that it turns every guy in their shows bi. I'm convinced Reef, Broseph, and Johnny are all bi but they're all accidentally convincing each other it's just straight guys being straight.

This is also Owen’s whole deal in Total Drama. He’s the only guy consistently fawning over Justin and Alejandro, and it’s supposed to be “oh, he’s acting like the girls, isn’t that wacky?” Instead, it just makes it clear that Owen’s type is buff tan dudes. There’s no other way to interpret it, other than that. Why do Justin and Alejandro’s charms work on Owen and not on any of the other guys? Cus he’s bi, duh.

@@washedblue it's mainly a joke, but the idea is the writers want to laugh at boys who show interest in girly things or kissing boys, which makes them give their own boy characters moments of liking girly things or kissing boys. It's not sincere but it is a version of queer-coding (subtly expressing that a character is queer)

i think i can maybe explain why emma and lo got more breaks! usually restaurants in australia have lunch and dinner service, with the place being closed between like 3pm and 5pm. so maybe that’s why they got extra free time?? that’s my theory

@@sevenoxia7199 Australian native TV kinda sucks, but damn they imported some good shit too. I remember watching Sword Art Online pretty much uncensored which was my jam back then. There was one scene missing (from my understanding) from Madoka Magika which was basically just people swearing a lot on a train. Plus we got uncensored Total Drama. ABC3 was great. Shame the rest of Aussie TV was *shit.*

So STOKED to see this. I love FreshTv shows.

Baby turtles actually do return to the beach that they're born on to lay their eggs.

I actually liked Grojband a ton it was one of my favorite music focused shows over the summer. And i would recommend putting each of the songs of the episode in a tier list.

I was always a big fan of Stoked, I grew up watching it but for some reason I wasn’t exposed to 6teen until a few years ago. Can’t tell if it just wasn’t a big show in Australia or its because I was born in 2005

2001 Aussie baby here. I saw both around the same time on ABC3 (Now ABCME 🤢). I don't remember when but I think it was around when it was first airing(Stoked). I could be super wrong

from memory (born 2000s) 6teen aired earlier than tdi or around the same time and was in a later slot on abc3, usually after the news came on and my parents took over the tv lol so I rarely watched it too

The thing about this show is I realized that it made me have nostalgic for a fictional beach I have never been to with friends I don't have. Yeah this show is really a gem. Fun fact it had a decent rotation on abc 3 in Australia plus if I'm not mistaken I think season 2 aired earlier in Australia before Canada

This guy's so real for constantly mentioning the show's "vibe". The show truly does have an "atmosphere" or "ambiance" to it... not necessarily tropical, maybe slightly tropical... it's got a very specific northwest coast vibe to it. Warm summery adolescent memories... as someone who is also 23, I feel a great deal of nostalgia rewatching this show.
