I love Cave Johnson so much. His business was built around putting a bunch of smart people in a room, throwing ridiculous amounts of money at them, and asking them to "do science". Portal 2 adds an additional layer to everything that is going on with the companion cube. Glados mocks Chells connection with the cube. She calls it a silent thing that Chell can project her stupid emotions onto, and that is Glados projecting her own feelings towards Chell onto Chell herself. Despite everything, Glados has a deep and fucked up love for Chell. Chell hasn't said a word to Glados, from Glados' perspective Chell is nothing but a silent tool and she has projected her love onto her

The reason that Wheatley's tests have access to the gels is shown when you unseal old Aperture and call down the elevator to get into the new facility. After the huge hatch opens, you can see pipes coming down and connecting to the gel pumps, restoring access to them for the new facility.

The combines goal for earth and the multiverse was to go planet to planet draining them of natural resources like the ocean. That Radio in the box actually has an Easter egg failsafe if you get trapped in there-GLaDOS has a dialogue line acknowledging that you’ve trapped yourself, and then opens one of the walls up to let you out. Prevents you from NEEDING to stress out when getting that radio-although the stressing from people who don’t know this is very entertaining.

Portal 2 is one of, if not the first game I, little stupid me, beat on my own. No outside help, no half-finished attempts. For that it has a special place on my heart

Clicking on a video about "the anticipation of portal 2" to see an in depth look of the game from fetus to death bed, is like looking up how to play chess and end up in a 4h video essay about game design. To be clear, not complaining. Great content btw. (Unless by "anticipation" he also means how the narrative uses reversion of expectation. Either way I'm gobbling this content like no tomorrow)

For the longest time I thought the defective turrets were called "Detective Turrets". They have that kind of accent and vibe of an incompetent detective that thinks they're competent and yet somehow always solves the case by accident. The kind of character to always say "I meant to do that," when they didn't mean to do that.

your first Portal video is one of my favorite video essays of all time and I am not even finished with this but I already love it. So happy this will slide so nicely in with rewatches of part 1. I have never and will never play a portal game, your videos are great. This whole layout is exactly what I as a not video game person want from a video game video-- letting the scenes play out as much as you do, showing me how hard it is to get to a point without me having to fail a million times to get there, hearing what you think after clearly thinking about it for a decade. All the best parts of sitting on the couch watching someone play a video game, which is a hard feeling to replicate. I spend a lot of time alone too and videos like this are very helpful with that, which is something I hope you know. I just really like your videos, this is really excellent

maybe the radios in lore may have been used by black mesa to contact people that might still be alive or to contact cave Jonhson since he was preserved in desk job. And the story in half-life 2 was leading up to the borealis so it makes sense that any survivor or black mesa worker would want to get info from people that worked on Aperture to figure out how to get into it or use the technology.

@@SalesmanWave This could still work but if there is a half life 3 or a new VR title, although I doubt it.. bbbbbbbbuuuuut since half life alyx(half-life in general) and portal have shown the multiverse. The could look to other universes to stop the combine kind of get on gman's level in terms of power or at least knowledge althiu ubwiuld prefer they used an established one like the vr games and desk job.

53:40 BHultra is so real for that. When I was 11, I saw Portal 2 for PC in a gamestop, and the cover looked cool, so I asked my mom to buy it for me. Got home and popped it in my laptop, and it made me create an account for this weird thing called Steam. Been a fun 11 years since, still one of my favorite games. the "gibberish" from the radios is SSTV code, basically audio data that can be converted into images

Wheatley got the gel because when you escape out of the gel facility little tubes fly down and connect to the gel tubes down in the underbelly of the facility, so presumably these tests with gel only work because we just so happened to connect the gel pumps to the rest of the facility on our way out

09:28 Not Gibberish, it's a method of transmitting images via radio, frequently used by HAM operators, and sometimes even NASA, you can decode those noises into images with apps made for that kind thing. SSTV, Slow Scan TV; basically some variation of analog TV so slow you gotta wait for just a single low res frame to be transmitted; there are several standards, but most apps know them all nowadays. If you had let that noise play a little longer, I would've been able to tell you what image it was with an app on my phone. I haven't finished watching the video yet, so maybe you do reveal it wasn't gibberish later and touch on the ARG etc. But for this timestamp, that's my comment for now.

The whole laboratory being somewhat alive as it movs and fixes itself without humans and Chell being the brain of it all, i love it so much. Humans played god, and while it required a part of a human to breathe that life into an AI, that's the same as the christian god breathing life into their first human. Honestly, despite it all, Glados and her body of the entire apeture laboratory is humanity's greatest achievement

Loved this video, it captured just how thrilled this series and its world made me. It was the first game I ever bought with my own money and captured such a specific part of my life. 3:19:00 How did Wheatley know about and get the Gel? We brought it to him. Remember the giant vault hatch we opened at the end of the old Aperture section? Once it was open the gel pipes got connected, pumping the gel into the modern part of Aperture.

Good video loved it but also when you teased lego dimensions I screamed, I learned about Portal from dimensions because I thought the turret looked cool, and I loved glados, I don't remember if it's good but like it's sooooo good
