    Alright this is a masterpiece. I seriously cannot believe the quality of videos you guys are coming out with from IPF Worlds 2023. The IPF need to hire you and we need this content from every major comp, like USAPL Raw Nationals, etc. Jesus is a BEAST. Shame he didn't do as well as at Sheffield, but he's clearly getting stronger. 120kg+ GOAT.

    Pulling 410 KG with your bare hands is an insane accomplishment. As always however, the hands are the weakest point of a deadlift. The reason Eddie and Thor were able to pull over 500 comes down to the use of wrist straps. I wonder just how much weight Jesus could pull if he were in a competition that allowed straps. Maybe we will see him in WSM or the Arnold Classic someday. Anyway congratulations to him.

    @@mustang8206 470 Kg = 1,036 Lbs. And yes, there are about a dozen or less people to ever pull 1,000 LBS off the floor. From that list, most of them have barely broke the 1,000 LB barrier (which is 454 Kgs). And he pulled 470 with relative ease so I'm sure he has more in the tank. So he is definitely in the elite of the elite class of dead lifters.

    @@WhiteLightsMedia I was thinking the same thing. Then again, he knows where the world record stands, and there is nothing contractually stopping him from competing in other events where straps are allowed. Then again, I've watched guys in competition pull 400, 420, 440 like it's nothing, then all collapse past 440. The closest I've seen recently was 470. I think the closest was 485. But for some reason, that seems to be the threshold for pain / capability. None of these guys can break the barrier. So, in fairness, I'd like to see him try, but until he does, we are only speculating. Either way, 410 bare handed is a legendary lift.

When he competed at age 24 (mid 20s) and won the 1978 AAU Senior Nationals 275 lbs. class, he weighed 275 lbs. and squatted 782.5, benched 534.6 and deadlifted 804.7 for a 2121.9 total. As a matter of fact, Bill was a bit weak in his bench pressing very early on, then really sort of grew in to it a few later.

    Not very impressed with the bench. The deadlift is ok. But the squat is quite impressive. Always wondered why so many powerlifters have a weak deadlift compared to the squat. Perhaps someone in here, with more knowledge about powerlifting can explain it to me. About priority? Also, I do appreciate the fact that there's no straps and deadlift suit involved, even though Hafthor's peak strength puts more or less everybody to shame...remember, he quite easily squatted a raw 980ibs/445kg, with little preparation.

  • @liamrmorgans921

    @liamrmorgans921

    Yeah like you said- no straps. Having to rely on grip makes the deadlift numbers a lot lower, even for Hafthor when he did his powerlifting meets. Thats why guys who do hook grip can excel in powerlifting

  • @cjmorgani3642

    Thor had wraps on which can add around 100lbs to your squat. Jesus did it in sleeves. Deadlifted no straps or suit on a stiff bar & not a deadlift bar(if you know how to use it that adds lbs to your lift especially on heavier weights). As far as deadlift being weaker, a lot of it comes down to being the last lifts of a very long meet day where you’ve already took 6 big lifts. Doing 3 squats in the 950-1000+ range takes its toll. You often see deadlift look just a little weaker than their last big gym lift might lead you to believe.

    That is right, the bench press is a pretty boy lift. The ones that have the records for bench press only do that one lift, nothing else. Easy to do when you only train 30% of your muscles for that one event. And NO CHEATS.

    Straps are a gimmick....watch the knuckles on a bare hands pull compared to straps. Straps let you roll your grip out, creating a higher starting point. Someone with baby hands might need a strap, but most use is to let out the grip and start higher.
