@@neofaktion Former GSC Game World designer and STALKER developer Vladimir "Fresh" Yezhov has been killed while fighting in Ukraine last week, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense revealed. Yezhov volunteered to defend his homeland in the immediate aftermath of the Russian invasion back in February. He is not the only STALKER developer that has been fighting in Ukraine this year, but he is the first reported casualty from that limited pool of the defense force. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has already taken a heavy toll on the gaming industry, though the numerous resulting game delays are naturally the least of everyone's concerns when it comes to the ongoing war. GSC Game World has already relocated the majority of its staffers to Prague, where it is continuing to work on STALKER 2. Meanwhile, since Yezhov enrolled with the Ukrainian army, he became a commander of an air reconnaissance unit in the 23rd Special Purpose Battalion. RELATED: Metro Exodus Dev Killed While Fighting In Ukraine Yezhov died during the defense of Bakhmut, a city in Eastern Ukraine that has been under assault since May. A funeral ceremony for the 38-year-old was held in Kyiv on December 27. GSC paid tribute to its former staffer on Twitter, stating that he will be immortalized by his numerous projects. Besides STALKER: Call of Pripyat, Yezhov also worked at Cossacs 2, Alexander, and Heroes of Annihilated Empires during his time at GSC. His other development credits include RTS game World of Battles: Morningstar, adventure game Sherlock Holmes: Devil's Daughter, and survival horror RPG Call of Cthulhu. Probably because he was a designer that worked on a world famous game "stalker", that heroically volunteered to defend his country when surely he had the means to avoid war if he so chose, like their president though he wants to stay and fight for the future of their people instead of turn and run. Nothing wrong with acknowledging a patriots sacrifice no matter their homeland, and considering he spent most of his life prior to this war working on games that many of us have played, I think asking "why" is better directed at your question. War in Ukraine is cut and dry, it's just an imperialistic land grab that Russia thought would be like a jewelry store smash and grab 5 minutes in and out new sovereignty. What they failed to take into account was their own hype, they huff their own smoke so hard they didn't realize how poorly trained and outdated their military was, the first several months of the war was just account after account of Russian convoy's running out fuel and basic necessities, Russian conscripts that were lied to about where and what they were going to do, phones taken from them so they couldn't contact family. Russia is cartoonishly evil in this scenario and there is no defending their actions without raising your hand that you agree with their abominable behavior. I'm American born and raised and 2 years ago the only thing I knew about Ukraine was a coworker was from there, it's safe to say that has changed for me and many others, slava ukraini. -sidenote, I have no quarrel with the actual Russian people, I've seen the pictures of them standing in Moscow and protesting despite the very real possibility of harm and arrest - declaring the unjustness of this war, we have to be careful not to paint in broad strokes here. Putin and his oligarch bootlicking homies are the issue for everyone right now.

This is actually a .50 caliber bolt-gun. The Astartes bolter is too large and powerful for most to use. I think “bolter” and “bolt gun” are literally synonyms, but people generally use “bolt gun” to describe the smaller version intended for mortal use.
@jtjames79

Based on the real life gyrojet guns. The biggest reason they didn't work out was manufacturing problems. With modern 3D printers gyro jet technology could easily make a comeback. You can make them nearly recoilless, you intentionally decrease the firing charge, and increase the SRB fuel. The next technology step up is hypersonic scramjet rounds. You can even use a laser for the initial push against a reflector sabot. Since you don't really care if the bullet survives, forward edge heating can be used to start the combustion cycle, and can keep accelerating until it's just a hypersonic jet of liquid and gas metal particles. Nasty stuff.

Kind of weird if you think about it. Bolters should arguably have very little recoil since they're based on self-propelled projectiles and are also quite heavy. I mean, the entire point of using this style of ammunition is to drastically reduce recoil. Theoretically, the only obstacles to a regular human using a bolter should be the weight and the size.
@Phenixtri
Жыл бұрын
@@darthplagueis13 its the kick charge thats producing the recoil as logically you would need that to make the gyrojet "bolt" round lethal as point blank ranges thus negating the RL problem of gyrojet ammunition by itself not having enough speed and velocity to again be lethal at point blank ranges. This is because the rocket motor on the round needs time to get up to speed once fired but by adding a cased kick / ignition charge you can at least in RL theory overcome this problem.

For the people wondering: the DT bolter is not the same as one an Astartes would use. An Astartes bolter, if fired by a normal human, would have their arms removed upon pulling the trigger and being exposed to the recoil. Also, an unaugmented human wouldn't be able to physically lift it.

There's so much detail but so much action that it's hard to notice a lot of it.
That's cute, the "bolt gun" is actually a "bolter pistol" for a Spess Muhrinn, while their normal bolter is far too big for a weak hooman to handle unassisted.

It's so interesting to watch this because it really shows how used to tactical shooters Drewski is. Darktide is a lot more chaos and keeping target priority as a sharpshooter is the main challenge. The compulsive reloading with the bolter almost ended badly so many times.
When Natalie dsync'd in the game I totally felt that. There some minor issues on connections in-game aside from other things
Fun fact: This bolter isn't the one marines use. We get the baby version. The heavy bolter that space marines use is so huge normal soldiers can only use it in teams like a HMG on a tripod or a tank turret. Imagine using a Browning M2 or a helicopter's minigun like an AR-15, that's how space marines roll.
The Ultramarines have yet to meet the BFG, the Black Hole launcher, and the Serious Bomb. For Warhammer, yes, it is great. Ahh... the tools of my childhood. For an assault rifle, it is more like an automatic instagibb and needs to be right up there in the Hall of Fame with weapons like the Turok's Cerebral Bore and the DOOM64 Unmaker (fully assembled). In player Warhammer 40k Battle sister and I can confirm, the gun is glorious in VR. The only sin before the Emperor of Mankind is that Darktide isn't VR so you can enjoy its majestic firearms properly.
Just like the Plasma Gun, i think you need the two reload Talents to make the best use out of the Bolt Gun.
I subscribed right after you mentioned Leutin 😆 I loved that episode and got into the lore because of Leutin
....perhaps the most useful thing about this video is where you ducked behind a wall, then equiped the bolter. So simple, but that solves a big part of it's downside
“I can get in their backs and just grind them” can very much be taken out of context
I havent unlocked the plasma gun yet, but i have SO much fun with the bolter. nothing more satisfying then blowing those guys in half, or taking of elite heads at long range!
next time you play try the Catachan Combat Blade, it's really good on both Veteran and Zealot, superfast dodges and causes bleed I suggest pairing it with the Lawbringer shotgun, super fun
Happy New Year Drew&Crew! ⭐🙂👍
Personally I'd found the most enjoyment in the Recon Lasguns. Especially if you get a good high damage roll on one. They have NO recoil so you just aim at head height and saw it back and forth and you can single-handedly wipe out a charging horde while your team focuses objectives of special mobs. I also have a good high-damage rolled Hellbore Lasgun that I love for 1-popping special mobs in the head from long range to start fights.
I absolutely love the Bolter! It's so satisfying!
Bolter in hordes do wonders, especially when they all crowd around at a choke point. The mini explosions of each shot, plus holding down the trigger in hip fire, basically full autos it and clears hordes. With new talent tree, best use perks for reload time, and weapons specialist, or if ur like me, take no keystone and make a all-rounder
The actual space marine bolter is so strong, even a single shot will break and possibly tear off a man. That one is modified to suit humans clearly, and the recoil is still insane.
...And this is the *Small* version of the Boltgun!
That gun sounds amazing, as it should. I've been running the Zealot with the power hammer and the revolver. It's a great setup, but for the power the revolver has, I wish the sound effect had a bit more oomph.

Was in a 4-vet 4-boltgun party yesterday. Even a horde was instagibbed by one salvo.
That boi is a thicky gun oh my love watching the war hammer vids love you and keep it up
a cool little tidbit, the "Diamantine" you find in the game, is the same stuff that's used as the armour penetrating tip for bolt rounds with "mass reactive" rounds, another random bit is that where an regular human bolter is apparently somewhat smaller, the heavy bolter is said in some sources to fire 1.00 calibre rounds rather than .75 calibre which is kind of mental!
Ok that bolter looks like a damn pistol bolter but im impressed the character managed to used it well and not having a broken arm
My favorite combo is the bolt gun with the power sword. I use the bolt gun for single target damage and general fun then the power sword for hordes.
Now if every Guardsman had this rifle they wouldn’t need the Space Marines as much.
fun fact, what exits the barrel is about the size of a tall boy monster energy drink, as the projectiles are more or less closer to the gyro rocket projectiles "bullets" if compared to the modern day weaponry
As all my vet friends say, Boltor moment

Heck ya love the video
By far my favorite thing about 40k is this is actually the smaller version since the actual bolters the space marines use would blow a regular humans arm off just from the recoil

Ha! The exact same build I've ended up going for. Chain axe and Boltgun, infinite grenades. So much fun
In a nutshell the bolt that it fires is "mass reactive." It takes the same effort to make a lasgun just for 1 bolt round. Diamintine tipped armor piercing mass reactive bolts that will shred anyone into a fine red mist when the bolt detects enough mass to detonate inside the enemy. Quite brutal.

1:50 JINX! You both owe me a soda
If a normal human used a space marines bolter, they would die or be close to it
Darktides boltgun feels like the most actuate depiction of the weapon in any game so far. Since we are only human even the scaled down pattern we used is big, clunky and difficult to use. Its recoil is insane and most importantly it hits like an absolute truck and does minor splash damage. Still hoping they add a bolt pistol so I can roleplay as Gaunt later down the line.
I play a Zealot and the Boltgun is my favorite ranged weapon to use. I like the flamers, but the Boltgun seems like the best option to take out ranged targets. I don't need the flamer, I've got a Heavy Eviscerator for hordes. Sure, the reload time does suck, but I just use it only for the specials and then my sword for everything else (wait for an opportune moment to get behind my team and reload)!
Fatshark did an amazing job including this iconic weapon in Darktide. Yes, as an old fangirl of 40K I am well aware that unaugmented humans should not be able to use a regular bolter (and some rightfully point out that the bolter in Darktide is a smaller versio)... but please, lets forget about lore in this instance ^^ I just love the look, the sound, how it handles, its insane kick and the sheer amount of damage you deal. Before the update, you could skill your veteran in a way that would reload your gun and switch to it when activated, I cant recall how many times this saved me when I was swarmed by ragers and/or maulers. Except for monstrosities, nothing survived getting blasted at point blank with a full clip of bolts, so much fun :) So yes, you have to learn how to master this beast, but if you do, it is very rewarding and satisfying.
there was an inquisitor from Fenris that utilized the MKIV godwyn pattern which is a space marine bolter instead of a human one. it was given to her by the flesh tearers and utilizes anti-gravatic coins embedded within it so she can lift the immense thing

Luten's 40k lore series is phenomenal, highly recommend.
Yeah that is because of the nature of what the bolster is. Because it isn't exactly a gun, it doesn't fire a bullet exactly, it fires what the imperium call a "Bolt" which from my understanding. Is a giant thick metal cylinder, that doubles as a high yield explosive.
I like the fact that this bolter isn't even what space marines use. Theirs is bigger by far, this one is just the human-sized version. Theirs would likely dislocate your arm if you tried to fire it ingame.
The line most said by Drewski: "I'm loading...."
For reference, a regular human probably wouldn’t be able to even lift a regular size bolter used by space marines
Hope you play this some more. It's not perfect but I'm clinging onto faith with fatshark
top tip: pray shield ogryn gets daemonhost aggro, because currently using the shields barricade ability it renders you immune to them!
There's a blessing that gives massive reload speed for a few seconds on elite kill, it's perfect for the bolter.
Strongest fictional firearm? Have you played Doom? the BFG exists.
The Boltgun truly is mighty, I have screenshots of me killing 5 elite enemies within a few seconds before the killfeed notification disappears
The Bolter is so powerful (recoil as well) that if a normal human were to fire it,lorewise,it would break their bones as it is described by a SM to be .998 caliber. In one of the Soul Drinkers novels, an inquisitor fires a space marine's bolt pistol. He has to hold it with two hands and firing a spray of rounds on full auto breaks his wrists. The Godwyn-De'az Pattern (.75 caliber) is designed to be used by a normal human and thus is much smaller than an Astartes bolter. This pattern of bolter is designed to make use of the Sarissa as an attachment. Welcome to my TED talk, thank you for reading nerds lol.
You gotta try the plasma rifle, it's insane.

Its just...OK. yeah lots of damage, good range, great for the big ogryn specials. but it's fiddly to cool down, the reload time is abysmal and you don't really get more then a few shots before you have to quell like a psyker. If I'm zealot, I'd rather have a flamer. If I'm a marksman, I'd rather have the bolter. My bolter has a 70% reload speed and a 8% reload speed perk. It reloads nearly as fast as a regular lasgun.

@@Notbatman374 Use the reload to cool it down. Heat resets to zero, so you run it to say, 90-95% and then step back for a few seconds. It's real useful on high difficulties where you get big swarms like this, because on a charged shot it erases the special you're targeting and then everything behind it. The Bolter is good, but it runs into sustainability problems with bigger hordes.
