I started doing card tricks at parties in the 1970's, and I've seen variations of this one recently, but this is, hands down (pun intended), the most elegant version. Thanks again Matt.

Here’s why it works: The easiest way to understand it is to imagine that you begin with 20 face down cards in a pile (ie none of the cards is reversed). Now proceed with the mixing: Step 1: Count off 10 cards into a pile. Step 2: Shuffle both piles. Step 3: Turn either pile face up. Step 4: Alternate the cards into one pile. Step 5: Cut the pile as much as you like. Situation currently is that the cards lie in pairs - EITHER a) with every pair face to face, OR b) with every pair back to back. Step 6: Take pairs of cards one at a time from the top of the pile and place them down, either as they are or by first flipping them over. This has no resulting effect, as each pair remains as it was (ie all pairs face to face or all pairs back to back). Step 7: Deal four hands of cards. Piles A and C will both face the same way. Piles B and D will both face the same way (but opposite to A and B). Step 8: Put piles A and C together to make pile X. Step 9: Put piles B and D together to make pile Y. Situation is that all cards in pile X face one way, and all cards in pile Y face the opposite way. Step 10: Turn over either pile X or pile Y, then put the piles together. Situation is that all the cards now face the same way - ie we’re back where we started. So… if we’re back where we started, then we can change our starting position to anything we like, and at the end that’s where we’ll be. In this case, Matt starts with four face up queens, so at the end that is where he ends up - with four face up queens. It’s a difficult-to-track procedure for forcing any number of cards from a packet of cards. Quite useful.

I used to work in a magic shop about 30 years ago and learned all the standard sleights and associated tricks. Over time I’ve found that I don’t really enjoy watching routines with sleights because once you know what to look for, it really spoils the effect. Lately I’ve been on a tear learning amazing ‘no sleight’ effects like this and it’s really been fun!

I watched it to the end, then got out a deck of cards and it worked first time. Pretty good considering I did it with miniature cards from a Christmas cracker. I dropped two cards on the floor and picked them up after a shuffle, guessing which way they faced, so I got lucky there. Did it again with no errors and it worked again. Great trick. I'm seeing my grandchildren on the 21st and using their terminology, this will "fry their brains".

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? I've been performing magic of all types for close to 30 years now (I'm 74, started performing a bit late, but have always enjoyed magic) and I love this trick. I especially like the production of the four queens at the start. It's a beautiful and very visual flourish. I'll definitely check out 'Mr. Koenigs Tapestry' as well. "Thanks, and Have a Magical Day!" P.S. I just subscribed to your channel👍😀

Matt! Just retired and decided I needed a way to entertain 3 grandsons...I watched a few of your other card trick videos and nailed them...today I watched this one (4 Queens) and am still shaking my head...it worked the first time I tried it. Amazing....by the way...Happy Cruisin'

You probably already know this, but you can add 32 cards from the pack to the queens and the effect still works. Just my opinion, but the more cards you're 'mixing up' during the routine then the more impressive the outcome looks. 😀

I just tried this routine with the entire deck of cards. It works too. Is it better to do this with the whole deck? 🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s a miracle when the four queens are the only cards that appear face up in a pile of twenty cards. Maybe it’s stronger when the four queens are the only face up cards in the entire deck. I think so. A bit more work, but worth it.

It’s strong either way. Personally I feel like the pacing of the trick is better with fewer cards. It entirely subjective. If you like it better with a full deck, go for it! And great job in working it out! Love that 👍
