It slightly annoyed me when the tuk tuk driver charged 100 baht more and the girl just went along with it, she knew you were getting ripped off and didn’t seem to care, I’ve lived in Thailand 9 years and don’t put up with it. On another note “it tastes like a rice crispy” made me 😂

That's not why it's called Soi Cowboy. It's called Soi Cowboy because a Vietnam veteran called 'Cowboy' Edwards first opened a bar on that soi in the 1970's and it grew from there.

I went there in 2001 with my mate...our guide was a copy of Razzle that had a feature on Bangkok...it didn't disappoint!!

I spent two months in Thailand in 1989. It was 50 baht then which was about 50 cents. We were told to negotiate but I just couldn’t because it was so little money. I was studying opium replacement crops in northern Thailand.

Bangkok is exactly what it sounds like. Most people leave immediately after getting off the plane.

That must be exactly where Kayla was strolling about on EatSleepBangkok, sort of randomly found the 'lizard park', before going back to university, a few weeks ago.

Co-Ed bathrooms aren’t too uncommon actually. Encountered one at McCormick place in Chicago when I was there for c2e2 a couple months back.

"Cheers" to a drink is more commonly "Chok Dee" and asking for the cost of something is usually "Tao Rai." she said "chon gâew" it is another way of saying "Chok Dee" - "Tao Rai" means "what is the cost?" whereas "gii" means 'what quantity' so "gii baht" means "how many baht" I use your method actually lol

Chok dee is good luck. The term they taught you is the most common for “cheers”. Gao is “glass”

When I asked her about the phrase "Chon Gaew" she laughed and said "Maybe it;s kids today thinking it's cool, but nobody in my life ever used that expression" Apparently "Chok Dee" was the standard toast.

I stayed at that Aira Hotel in February, didn't realise there was a rooftop bar there! Great hotel though, very nice and only about £40? And to say thank you it's Kap un carp (spelt phonetically).

Soi cowboy was named cowboy after TG Edwards who opened a go go bar called cowboy before that it was soi gold label

Its rather muted compared to 30+ years ago (probably just as well, remembering Mama Lu’s bar). I’ve had more fun in the back bar of the Black Dog on a Monday night.
