The Story of Wrath of the Lich King Classic [Lore]

Ойындар

The release of Wrath of the Lich King Classic is just around the corner and many of you asked if I could do a general overview on the story that goes down in the expansion. I really hope that doesn't mean some of you are planning to skip any of these quests given! Wrath of the Lich King is something else. Each zone packed with that good lore and interesting moments. Honestly, I wasn't overly hyped about the other classics, but this one...after working on this video... might need to make some time.
Right! I hope you'll enjoy ^_^

WoW used to be a very easy to follow story and that’s what I enjoyed most. Now we have half written narratives that take 3 expansions to cover, and no attempt at making new interesting characters. The lich king is my favorite video game villain by far. Sylvanas and the jailer just make me sad compared to what WoW used to do well at

Hey, so cool to see that you still do lore vids. I used to watch them as a teen and you made me get deeper into the background lore to the game and a whole new universe opened before my eyes :D You animated me to do the loremaster achievement and to read the quest logs and all that. Brought some WoW novels, especially the "Rise of the Lich King" was my favorite. Prior to that it was just farming xp, grinding inis etc., but then I started to interest me more into the world. Like, whats the story behind this ruin i am doing this quest right now in, and things like that^^

I feel that Tirion Fordring was the real hero of wow, he is what players should of been. It was a damn shame that he was not brought back as a death knight in Legion, stopped by Lady Liadrin, perhaps because paladins obtained his weapon, but I feel he would of done a service without it. Even if he diden't wish to become a death knight, he could of done a lot more in the grand scheme of things in which his prior efforts shared, to defeat the legion and restore peace and justice, still could of done so as a death knight. He would of been under Bolvar again.

I loved the early story development, especially when you get the moment of realization of what's going on and what happened, like Muradin Bronzebeard storyline in the storm peaks, which as of this comment, I'm playing through, though their in game story telling has made great strides, not all of the story is there, but in books or other media, which is unfortunate, rather than other media adding onto existing story through other perspectives of the characters - hence why Pyromancer left us, kappa :(

A large part of the problem with modern WoW is the story telling. BFA felt disjointed, like two different expansions smashed into one. We had to wait until the next expansion to find out the motivation behind the Sylvanas part of the story, and even then it was extremely lacking and poorly put together. Shadowlands was short on story, and not all of the storytelling was cohesive. Arden weald was beautiful, and the questing told an overall story, but what did any of it have to do with the story of the expansion?? And someone remind me what the motivation behind the Jailer's actions were again?

I had barely started playing back then, and I'm kind of sad that I didn't get to discover Northrend and Wrath's lore and story with prior knowledge and context, because this expac was peak Warcraft in all the right ways. We might've hit new gameplay highs and expanded the game in good ways after that, but I don't think any version of WoW ever felt as right in its feel, world building, lore *delivery*, story, characters, plot beats and atmosphere. We got huge lore building reveals that explained a lot yet only made the canon feel bigger and more mysterious; we got familiar and new characters having interesting arcs and plots in every moment and corners; and we got big hype/emotional moments that were earned and had lasting impact. It makes me want to replay every Northrend questline on Retail or keep up with Wrath Classic through the Patches, but I can't help the feeling that it just wouldn't be as good with modern canon/lore context in mind, it might soil it all - I'm tempted to leave it undisturbed in my memories as I experienced it through my young teens...

They also had a TON of stuff they could use from Warcraft 3 yet - which seemed to pack a SHIT TON of stuff that could then be used to fuel soooo mannnny expansion! Blizz should have ended WoW at Legion, made a Warcraft 4 to introduce more lore/storylines/history/etc, and then they could have built a brand new engine for WoW, call it "WoW 2" and use Warcraft 4 as to fuel more expansion. /2cents (didnt' meant to write so much, love your lore vids, dude!)

At the events of Warcraft 3 Arthas was a prince, so I guess he was quite young. World of Warcraft released 4 years after the events of the expansion The frozen throne and many staff happened before the Lich King was awaken (the opening of the Dark Portal and the Burning crusade). So I guess aproximately 15 or 20 years lorewise passed from the merging of Arthas with the Lich King till the day he was destroyed. That means Arthas is about 35 - 40 years old when he dies.
