The Story of War Crimes [Lore]

Ойындар

War Crimes is a new novel written by Christie Golden and it tells the story of Garrosh and his trial in Pandaria. In my opinion it's a great book, definitely worth your time, and I hope I did it justice!
What say you to these charges, Garrosh Hellscream?!

It is entirely possible that Kairoz tricked Wrathion. He could have shown him a possible future drastic event and persuaded him that it can be prevented by saving Garrosh. Wrathion is still just a child with great determination. Easy to manipulate.

Just finished the book! Never have I been indulged in such reading! As someone who works in a public defense office, I can feel the weight on Baine's part. Even though the accused had clearly been involved in a crime, still, he is given a right to be defended. From the start to end, the ride is like a roller coaster of emotions. Each day of trial is filled with remarkable parts where the reader can imagine the told past events even without playing the game or reading the other related books. My favorite parts are those with Anduin, especially with Wrathion (the dragon prince even wished for the blonde prince to ferry him and explore places) and Garrosh (that part where, like stated in the vid, the orc compared the Prince to the fallen Lich King). Overall, it's a must read book! Thank you for this summary.

I kinda wonder what would've happened if Garrosh had said that he had regretted Everything. Failing his father, his Warsong Clan, The Horde, Baine, his teacher Thrall but most of all, failing Zaela, his one and only love. He failed her by leading her down this dark path.

Vereesa and Sylvanas' bond was a cute story, up to the point where you learn that Sylvanas' ideas of her sister joining her involved murdering her in her sleep and raising her as a Forsaken. I'm actually seeing Sylvanas as a villain in the future, though an undead rebellion and a reformation of the Scourge might be too similar to the whole Horde segregation that has just happened and is still happening.

I don't think Sylvanas will be killed off, but probably a scenario, or event where we have to make her come to her senses. If Sylvanas dies, then so does the entire Forsaken race, so players wouldn't be able to play as Forsaken anymore, so it would mess a lot of things up and wouldn't make sense. Also it would piss a lot of people off if she were to die off. First Cairne, then Garrosh, now Sylvanas? Just eliminate the entire Horde then.

yeah, if sylvanas is used as a boss sometime in the future, i will literally quit the game i play forsaken, and care about the lore, and sympathize with the race in general, and i have no problem spinning better yarns myself than the garbage that sylvanas was rattling off in silverpine after the cataclysm revamp about "staking a claim" or "enforcing their will" or whatever the lines were. silly as james bond villain lines it would have been very easy to make their campaign against gilneas appear more defensive, because there were, after all, ravening worgen (some were tough elites if i remember corrrectly) terrorizing forsaken lowbies and silverpine for six years before arugal, and then glineas, were eventually rooted out. and what the hell was the alliance doing in andorhal? they have no claim to any of the territory in lordaeron, the forsaken were all born there, and died there, lordaeron is their home, and the home of the families, they aren't "occupying" lordaeron though if you read the short story that blizzard published on the website, it does seem as though Garrosh was playing the hawk when the Greymane wall split open, and that he intended to use the forsaken as cannon fodder, and that sylvanas deployed the plague to conserve her troops and bring the campaign to a swift, decisive end, during the worgen starting quests, the forsaken campaign against gilneas is portrayed as this power-mad campaign of genocidal death or whatever I had better not log in one day and find out that the faction I play every month is basically just a villain factory for LOTR fanboys to fight against, and that it doesn't actually have a point of view about anything that matters the game will stop being fun and I will literally quit I'm already pissed that Orgrim Doomhammer is basically going to be used as cannon fodder in WOD from what I hear, that he's given lip-service briefly only to be killed off in some stupid way to quickly raise the stakes in the story or whatever if there's any character that deserves an awesome little online short and a badass in-game cinematic, it's the original wielder of Thrall's weapon of choice but nope, apparently not

Wrathion, creating the Iron horde, will create yet another conflict for Azeroth. He is doing this because azeroth isnt ready for the final conflict with the Burning Legion. He is trying to make azeroth stronger through feeding the flames of conflict. So that when the time comes the heroes of azeroth will be strong enough to defeat the burning legion.

  • @AnimetionArt0

  • @321apocalyps

Sounds simple enough, but I think Wrathion (though he has the best intentions) wishes for a much darker result. If he were to dismantle the Alliance and Horde armies he'd be in a position to stop the war entirely and bring about piece (although through mass blood shed) Or maybe he seeks a truce with both to bring about the fall of the burning legion who's to say he isn't "on the phone" with the titans now? And perhaps the darkest of all my predicted intentions: He may want to return Azeroth to it's original glory, the glory portrayed in the Emerald Dream. The Dreams expansion has to be in the near future (they already began the development of the zone, check youtube) Wrathion would be the best segway into that.

  • @ChrisSmith-bb1dq

    @ChrisSmith-bb1dq

    10 жыл бұрын

AnimetionArt0 The major thing was he wanted to pit the horde and alliance against each other. He was backing Garrosh untill he outed his own people. Backing Varian was the smartest idea at the point. Push the alliance untill they defeated the horde and took in horde refugees eventually bringing everyone under one banner. The Tauren and Night Elves mesh together so naturally its almost odd to see them as enemies. The Forsaken WERE part of the Alliance when they were human, if they werent pushed away by racism and fear, would they have really abandoned their own kind? The Blood Elves joined the horde for similar reasons. Wrathion's goal in Mists was to push the Horde and Alliance conflict untill 1 destroyed the other and in such an act assimilated the broken pieces of said faction bringing everyone under a unified banner to fight the burning legion.

Everything about this story sounded good up until the Celestrials said that they would have let Garrosh live. That just pissed me off so much... Here we have a tyrant who says he would have gladly bombed a thousand more cities, committed mass-genocide, turned on his own subjects, and they think it's wise to let him live?! For all the lessons and emotional healing the Celestrials and Pandaren(Taran Zhu) wanted to bring about between the Horde and the Alliance, they picked probably the WORST individual imaginable to use for this. And I don't say that because of what he has done, but because of the danger he could present should he have gotten free. And we know that happens. And now the price of these "lessons and healing" is to be paid in more blood. Fantastic... EDIT: Listening to this again, I think I may be less inclined to read this book for myself. I love a good story, and I certainly don't mind a story having some good lessons to it. But this... War Crimes just sounds so damn preachy. It's like this theme of "change" is forced down the reader's throats while trying to find out what happened to Garrosh and what sort of monumental screw-up allowed him to escape.

I think it would've maybe helped if Garrosh actually did do something importantly redeeming in the future to tie it together. Like how Gollum in LOTR kept the ring hidden from Sauron for so long and how in the very end he was the one that made it possible for the ring to fall into Mount Doom and permanently destroy it.

I just finished reading War Crimes today and the story was great! I was glad that Veressa backed out of her plan to assassinate Garrosh, finally realizing that though she lost Rhonin, she still has their children and they mean more to her than getting revenge; but I also felt sorry for Sylvanas. Seeing the Windrunner sisters reunited after a long time, and Veressa turns her back on Sylvanas's plan. Whether one day we fight Sylvanas and possibly kill her when she turns completely evil, or she sacrifices herself to defeat a powerful enemy to Azeroth, I hope Sylvanas will find peace one day. Also while Jaina is still not a big fan of the Horde like she was in the past, it looks like she will later grow to trust them again.

When it comes to Sylvanas, Nobbel, I agree. She's been given plenty of chances to redeem herself and she has chosen to ignore it in favor of vengeance. I believe that she has now pushed herself beyond the point of no return. Yet, some still forgive or even hold out hope, why? Because she's attractive. Bah. A few honeyed words and some good looks do not erase anything. If anything, I daresay she's become quite like Azshara: Loved by her people, beautiful, but wicked and malicious.

+krim7 She is all but complex.. I have to agree with Nicholas here. Sylvanas is like a whiny little kid now, she was saved by the Valkyr and all she has now is to just keep on living, but instead of taking the chance to become a better being, she focuses on only herself. She's truly the worst, her sister decides to go back to her family instead of losing it and raising an undead army with Sylvanas and instead of being happy for her or accepting that she has different ideals, she goes on a rampage? How is she fit to lead a whole faction, how are her actions justified? But everyone defends her because she's "the outcast" in the Horde, she's the one with the oh-so-troubled past that she can't overcome~ Complex, my ass, she's just a spoiled baby with a bad personality.

I think one of the reasons they try to keep her is because she controls the forsaken. Without her the forsaken would turn into rampaging scourge and then we would have one less race to play. However in the next expansion the Legion I hope they build up some better motivation for her as she has been pronounced to be a main character and her only motivation to be 'alive' right now is to make sure her people doesn't die out.

+Mega Minx You forget; Sylvanas, above all, is an Undead raised by Arthas. The undead who were raised by the Lich King were made to not exhibit or have very little capacity for positive emotions. The Forsaken, who were primarily risen by the Valk'yr are capable of more emotions because they were risen without any shackle on their minds. I believe that if Sylvanas were ever to change here twisted nature... she would have to die, and be risen again. In a sense she has become institutionalised in the way that "traditional" undead behave, and thus, negative emotions come easier and quicker. I agree with you that, for the time being, she does not show any complexity in her character (e.g. always the vengeance and rage reaction, with ignorance towards any positive emotions or sorrow) But I do hope that Blizzard change this and delve more into her softer side.

I like to compare Wrathion with Ozymandias from Watchmen. What Ozymandias did in Watchmen was killing nearly half a city of people so both the Us and USSR would seize the cold war and unite against an alien threat. So what better way to unite both the Horde and the Alliance under one banner by throwing an enemy at them so they will be standing together when the Legion comes?

The tribunal/trail was not about Garrosh. Thats the pointe/lesson. While defending Garrosh Baine finds out his real duty: to help the other leaders and visitors to overcome their thist for blood and vengance. In the final battle when evryone was fighting thier mirror image - their one evil/Garrosh/Arthas inside him - -> it was Baine again who shouted to accept the evil echos instead of fighting them, and thus saving the day. I wish Blizzard to push Baine even more in the spotlight in Legion , becoming the Herald/General of the army of light while Anduin its formal leader.

What does that have to do with anything? It's a trial for real war criminal not some lame-ass self-help session for losers. Baine should have refused the position because he emotionally compromised as should have Taran Zhu and Tyrande for the same reason. Killing Garrosh would have also prevented one of the shittiest expansions to hit the shelves BTW.

I see your point, but you gotta remember that not everything goes perfectly IRL. In fact, many, many things are manipulated in the course of human history and politics. In democracies of today we have many trials with compromised accusers, defenders, jury and judges. Dictatorships fare worse. Monarchies are expected to have been even more corrupt. So if anything, this trial of Garrosh is way for the story to be more believable, since it mirrors the political turmoils we face in real life. When the stakes are this high, the people in power see no choice but to stage everything in order to sway popular opinion. What really surprises me is that they actually seemed to give Garrosh a fair chance to redeem himself.

But the ones who ultimately decide his fate were the Celestials who are about as impartial as it gets and they chose to spare him and I think Baine did a pretty good job defending Garrosh despite his conflict of interest also didn't you listen to the end of the video? This trial was as much if not more about everyone dealing with their baggage they have gathered along the way as it was about Garrosh

A prosecutors job is to prove the defendant is guilty who is better then someone who has no love for the defendant and will do everything in their power to accomplish this goal? If he anything Tyrende's distaste for Garrosh makes her a better prosecutor and killing Garrosh wasn't warranted before MOP

As it also is my first wow book I felt I chose the right one to start with and I might get another in the future. I really liked it, it was brilliant written... exept for two parts (Jaina running into Kalecs arms and when Anduin ran to find Chromie), 'cuz they seemed out of place and like something written whenever I rush the writing myself. Anyway! I think I had all kinda feeling and cried like 3 times ... it is really a good book to pick up! :D

It was part of the game that they make mistakes in there evidence.

They said the event will be something about the Dark Portal turning red and the Iron Horde marching through it. Probably months after the actual trial, since Garrosh needs enough time to set things in motion on Draenor. Also, MMO Champion had overviews of the starting events for both factions, even videos. Something about Gul'dan being captured by us. Even had the events of the first zone for the Alliance where they face Ner'zhul and Velen dies. I didn't really pay attention to the details.

The award for most epic fails goes to Anduin. That right for setting Garrosh free. For ruining Sylvanas happiness and worse fuck up of them all. Saving Jaina. Well this would not be World of Warcraft if the horde did not have to go clean up the Alliance mistakes. It funny 90% of all the raid bosses in WoW are there because of the alliance screw up. Garrosh is the first major boss that was the hordes mistake.

Sylvanas happiness was hindering on murdering someone and then turning her sister into a Banshee. That's a little messed up in and of itself. While Arduin was indeed naive, he was following his believes in the Light to a tee. In a way, Anduin is shown to be trying to grow in a polar opposite direction of Garrosh. But that also can be his undoing which is why the book shows him a version of him that is weak willed, thus showing himhe has to Follow the Light but also be ssure of his strenght and valor. The book really is about making the characters move out from the mess they built themselves during Cataclysm and Pandaria and thus reach a sort of understanding so the Horde and Alliance can actually cooperate again in any way.

Just so we're keeping track. First war was the horde. Second war was the horde. Third war was Ner'zul as the lich king, also the horde. Then we get to the first wow, which was dragons, neither side was responsible. TBC was 1 Illidan from the alliance and 3 horde characters, Kael'thas twice, Fell horde several times. Wrath had Ner'zul from the horde using the body of arthas to cause everyone trouble once again the horde's fault. Cata was about 90% orcs in the twilight hammer clan and deathwing, because the twilight hammer clan WAS originally orcs from the horde, the difference now being that cho'gal another OG horde member joined them. Finally Mists is again, Horde fuck ups. WoD is MORE horde fuck ups. Finally Legion which is gul'dan's fault which is more horde fuck ups. Who's mistakes are we cleaning up in wow again...? Oh right the Horde's because 90% of your faction's characters are pure evil. From Sylvanas to Kel'thas to garrosh, while the rest are petty thieves like Galywix. Who else do you even have left that's both on your side and not absolutely evil?

My theory is that Wrathion sent Garrosh back in time and had him create this Iron Horde so that way when the events of WoD set in it would make the Alliance and Horde work together again to stop the Iron Horde. I believe Wrathion wants the Alliance and Horde to work together and realise that they have more in common than thought, for example the Iron Horde, Siege of Orgrimmar, the Cataclysm, Arthas, and The Burning Legion, the Alliance and Horde have all fought these events together. Something like the Iron Horde would have them work together again, so that way when the Burning Legion returns the Alliance and Horde will get the drill and know what to do. So Wrathion wants to unite the Alliance and Horde for when the Legion returns so that way Azeroth will be safe.

Hello nobbel ! im listening to the war crimes now, i was wondering, did thrall get new title or name ? as in the audio version they call him gouell or somtehing like that, defintely not thrall.... i was wondering if i missed somethibng or if the interpretor is so arogant that he is destroying thrall's name by not finding how to prenounce it.

Thrall was his slave name, Go'el is the name his parents would have given him. and the name he goes by these days.

+MrXsanca That's the name he is called by his wife in the "Cataclysm" expansion. Since this book post-dates that game, I'm surprised you didn't know.

That sounds like a really beautiful story. You told it really well! I don't read books often, but I think I will be picking this one up. :)

I'd like a separate lore video for each of the dragonflight's. History, powers, possible futures post-cataclysm, etc. Really like your videos, so please keep making them. :D
