Good point! Rusty only has to be started and given some direction from time to time but best not to interrupt him, let him flow freely - he says amazing things, and with his vast knowledge of the time and scenes he was involved with he's a treasure trove of information and anecdotes. Every time something new! I never tire of listening to him.

@@user-yc5um2pl5v Again, there were so many amazing exciting bands, clubs, fashions. We were so lucky. Then you grow old, get married, get a job, mortgage and you lose track. Rusty is/was like a time machine, to those days of splendour. We all went to Eric's in Liverpool, and saw all these bands. Ultravox, JD, Clash, and of course local acts like Pete Wylie, Julian Cope and Man McDullock, ha ha? A great band worth checking out are Modern Eon. Superb, but got nowhere. Its like the Bateaux tapestry of the 70s and 80s.

Guys, thank you for mentioning Warren Cann! The guy was so innovative and pioneering - and yet doesn't get talked about nearly as much as it should! Maybe you could try to get to interview him? I know he's living in US now but that Zoom thing makes it possible. And Warren's a treasure trove of knowledge about the period - not to mention a great storyteller. Please consider this, it's so sad he almost disappeared. And, of course, congrats - such a great interview with Rusty! I just love the guy, he's something else!

Yeah It was partially the drumming that hooked my into Ultravox Learning him out of U-vox meant it was never going to be close to their style Even Brilliant (which is anything but)|, they seem to have Warren drumming over the tracks rather than driving them I believe Midge himself said he (Ure) was a bit of a Hitler which maybe drove Warren away

Rusty is a proper character, I saw him when he supported Midge on his tour back in 2019 in Southend where he did a bit of DJ'ing and story telling before joining Midge and the band on some Visage tracks + Yellow Pearl. Had the audience in stitches with some of his anecdotes.

Great interview. Thanks Guys. I would love to hear some more tales about Billy's, The Blitz and Camden Palace - Perhaps you could find some other regulars to chat to like Boy George, Mark Moore (S'Express), Spandau band members, or Princess Julia etc.? It's fascinating to hear from those who were actually there and can recount real life experiences which may never have been discussed before. It's common knowledge about Bowie turning up at The Blitz, but what else was it like to experience those clubs as a New Romantic back in the day I wonder? ...

I met Rusty at a break during an Ultravox gig about 20 years ago and had a good chat with him.I told him that they did a great job on his new gnashers and he proudly smiled .As soon as I brought up Steve , he was shaking with anger and said he hates that wanker .I now understand legally why he had such vitriol for Steve at that point in his life . I still love both of those legends. R.I.P Steve Strange.

Great interview Guys, Rusty is such a full on character and his version of the Visage story is pretty much the same as Midges and from his comments there was a lot of anamosity after the first albums due to the workload Midge had to do with Rusty just turning up during the making of the album and then dissapearing again without much input. Thats why it was produced by Visage and Midge Ure.

Tar was credited produced by Visage , Ronny was Midge Ure and Rusty Egan . Midge was and still is the most talented but I have produced many great records and bands and we could have been a production team but Midge is an artist more than a producer hence he wanted Conny Plank for Ultravox and has worked with many more.

Very entertaining lads. You can't really interview Rusty. You start him off with a question and then he's on his way and just doesn't stop. Nevertheless he's always interesting to listen to. Sounds like he's been seriously burned over the years by record companies and sometimes by people who he thought were his friends. I just love the first two Visage albums but didn't like 'Beat Boy'. I know Rusty was considering reforming Visage with Steve not so long back. I don't know what happened but Steve ended up doing it on his own. What I've heard of the more recent Visage material is pretty good. Shame Rusty felt he couldn't get involved.

Also Stevo ( Some Bizzare ) would be fascinating...Princess Julia also would be ......entertaining. Martin Rushent was a genius. The main reason DARE was so good was because of him. It’s so stripped back and seemingly simple. I’m commenting as I watch this.... Did Rusty have a glass of wine with lunch? A Certain Ratio are always amazing.
