The Radicalz (consisting of Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit and Perry Saturn) left WCW in early 2000 to join the WWF. It was seen as a big move even though all four men were considered as mid to upper-midcard superstars during the majority of their World Championship Wrestling careers.
Malenko, Saturn, Guerrero, Benoit (and many others) voiced their concerns in WCW in regards to the politics and booking decisions that were hurting their careers. Even though a group of these guys gave in their notice, Chris Benoit was still booked to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at WCW Souled Out 2000. This still wasn't enough to keep Benoit and others from making the jump to the World Wrestling Federation, and the Radicalz debuted in the WWF at the end of January 2000. On the episode of Smackdown following their Raw debut, every member of the Radicalz had a match, and every member lost.
This video looks at the Radicalz WWF debut and the story of how they left WCW. We also look at the other members of the WCW roster who were also in contact with WWF during this time period (including Shane Douglas and Konnan).

Seeing Saturn go from being part of an outstanding tag team in ECW to falling in love with a mop in the WWF is both interesting and sad to look back on. Malenko was one of the best in terms of wrestling skill, but sadly was never going to be a top star in the WWF due to his severe lack of charisma. Even at the time I thought it was kind of obvious that Benoit and Eddie were the two members of the stable that stood out the most.

I remember back in 2000 hearing about The Radicalz appearing on WWF for the first time and not thinking too much of it other than noticing a pattern on WCW guys switching over to the WWF. First was Big Show, then Jericho, then The Radicalz. Looking back, The Radicalz was a very significant yet underrated acquisition.

They were not meant to be a group. They should have been wrestling each other in a good promotion not WWF in 99. Tag teaming here and there maybe. Talking on the mic is what anyone can do, even William. He can use hell ya! Stick 2 middle fingers out, crush beer cans. Try chain wrestling where it looks almost real, and excites thousands. A bit harder to do. If 80% can't enjoy it, it's the overall drop of quality in the U.S. promotions and lot's of clowning instead. Much easier to do. No one needed to be talked into watching those 4 in better promotions... What WWF did to them those first days was just dumb though.

I’m well aware of the Mike Bell incident, just feel like it was a bit of an overreaction on their part (WWE). And from what I understand from the situation it was bell’s fault to begin with not Saturn, did he have a right to be mad? I’d say so.. but obviously management didn’t see it that way. Plus Eddie had substance issues to start with before he got clean and got his main event push, so it would have been nice to see Saturn given that same second chance as he actually comes across as a nice guy, and even got shot saving a woman from getting raped.

Just like they didn't want to induct Chyna into the Hall of Fame because of her adult videos, yet kept around the man who made the video with her. And, ya know, pushed her to and exploited publicity from her appearance in Playboy. Do you know why he had/has a drug problem? He was helping a woman who was being assaulted and almost died because of it. He was disowned and abandoned by his friends and WWE. He wound up being homeless for years. Yet, and this is key, they've happily employed and pushed countless people with substance abuse issues and addiction, before and after his stint with WWE. These guys didn't jump and create the NWO for WWF or anything close to that kind of buzz. But everyone liked Eddie and Chris and felt they should be main eventers in WCW.
