Best Sunday Morning feature ever. Gonna cram my feet in my old shoes. Going down to the basement and tap my arse off!
I am not a never have been a dancer. But I remember Gregory Hines fascinating me as a kid in the '80s.
Gregory Hines was one of the best tap dancers, it was so sad when he died.
The Nicholas Brothers: WOWSA. Best ever!
“If everything is taken from you and all is left is your body, you’re going to make art with your body.” Whoa!!! If all is taken from you… all is left is your body!!! A most profound observation of slavery… chilling, heart wrenching, devastating. Thank you…
Love this story. My Irish mom took tap from Bo Jangles in Chicago. She taught me in our kitchen.

He was probably one of the greatest all-around entertainers ever, but not one of the greatest tap dancers ever.

A masterpiece story. "Using your body to create music". ✨
I loved this with my whole heart!! I’ve been taping since I was a nugget. I just bought a pair of Jason Samuel smith tap shoes for my tap Solo for Miss Missouri this year!
The Nicholas Brothers were the ultimate, I think!
Loved this piece. My mother-in-law belonged to a tap dance group of retired ladies in their 70s & 80s. They even toured & went to Russia back in their heyday.
Bo Jangles and Shirley Temple. And who can forget John Bubbles from "The Belle of 14th Street" (1967)?
Don't forget Spanish Flamengo, and Irish clog! I remember the great dance number between Gregory Hines and Mikhail Baryshnikov!

Irish dance not Tap dance...
I was wondering if they were going to show Savion Glover. He's one of my favorite "hoofers!"😉
As a young girl I took tap and ballet. I wanted to be a dancer when I grew up. Too bad that never happened... but I sure had fun along the way!! Thank for this wonderful video and the very talented Jason Samuels Smith. (I too am a Smith kid!!)
My mom studied tap dancing when she was a youngster. She loved it, and was always frustrated she never made anything of it.
The Nicholas Brothers. They inspired Gene Kelly.
When I was a kid in Indianapolis, early 60's. We lived across from a park that had a stage in the park. Every year there would be talent shows, the majority tap dance. Disappeared, not the memory or impression. Thanks
We need to see more tap dancing!
Loved Arthur Duncan of Lawrence Welk Show😎😁😎

Superb dancer
The nickname "sandman" comes from people using sand to shuffle and make sounds without tap shoes. I understand that a short segment can't include all the greats, but I hope that it shows enough history to get the young kids looking at Sammy Davis Jr., Hines and others that are unforgettable. ❤️
Most organic art, happens in the "down an out" places. Great vid, thanks.
What a cool dude!🎵🎶
My personal favourite on-line tap tutor is a delightful young lady by the name of "Shelby Kaufman", just has a lovely way of explaining with, what I presume is a New York accent🙂she's ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💯
Um, can someone point me toward those hot pink saddle tap shoes the reporter is wearing at the end of the video???
AMEN
Gregory Hines!
now need an entire segment only about bojangles :)
no mention of Sammy Davis Jr. He inspired Gregory Hines
She should have highlighted Paula Abdul and Mya
Shout out to J Sam’s!
AMAZING TAP DANCE THANKS YOU GOODNESS 🌟❤️🖤💚🤎 FAMILY DAPHNE COTTON ALWAYS 💜 AWESOME BEAUTIFUL ✨,
Shuffle step, shuffle step, and step ball change, shuffle off to Buffalo... 💃
I'm tapping my toes.
❤️🎶❤️
African slaves had access to wooden shoes called klumpen in the Netherlands language - remember New York was originally called new Amsterdam... the wooden shoe is easy to make warm in winter cool in summer..
Should had mentioned Sammy Davis Jr.
What about Sammy Davis Jr... The one eyed tap dancer?
Also, Appalachian whites.
