There are SOOO many reasons Gloucester is amazing and Fiesta is a HUGE one!!! I love the history and diversity here, not just different nationalities but the combination of blue collar to the very wealthy, and the friendliness from ALL walks of life here. Gloucester is a magical town.💕💕👌

I never knew there was an annual celebration in Gloucester. What a beautiful tradition bringing everyone together. Ah, the ‘North End’ in Boston. My high school sociology teacher was Italian and our class went to the North End on a field trip. I remember the teacher giving us girls a heads up that the elderly Italian men liked to pinch the girls. Our teacher probably should have taken us to Gloucester instead! Thank you for this fun and memorable video! (p.s. No one was pinched.)

I'm from Queens, NY so we have a lot of diversity here. Yet once I go outside the tri-state area that it gets very American (even though I was born here.) What I mean by that is, people who are third, fourth, fifth generations and etc. That differ than having mostly first to second generation American friends that I grew up with. So it is fascinating to see the heavily Italian heritage in MA where I would have thought it was more British, Irish or something. I'm aware that Italians came to America in the early 1900s however I'm use to the Italians that emigrated in NYC in the 1950s. Then with each decades I saw different group of immigrants come and heavily populate and shift the neighborhoods that emigrated from Greece, Poland, Russian, latinos, asian, West Indies, Haitian, Hindu and etc.

Never knew about this fest , but, in my 20's I met some lobster fishermen while living in Newport who brought us up to "the blessing" as it was called and there I witnessed huge trays of food carried out of the restaurants for everyone for free and 24 hour drinking, forget "day drinking".

Thank you for sharing this story Kory. I finally finished reading The Perfect Storm. Now that's a serious immersive experience with the fishermen of Gloucester. The amount of drinking of the crew on land was astonishing for me since I'm not a drinker. Thanks for the suggestion. Now I'll watch the movie 🍿.

"Fiesta" is Spanish. Festa is Italian.
