Radical Dreamers will alway be more of a curious piece than it does either as a good Chrono sequel or a game on its own merits. I strongly dislike the form of a visual novel where we can barely see what the characters look like. The whole game is more like an uncomfortable heist than a colorful adventure. This was a very unusual direction for any chance of Chrono being a big series. Still to this day, I don’t fully understand what Radical Dreamers’s goal of uncovering Chrono Trigger’s “lose ends” was even about and the purpose of replaying and see all of its unsatisfying endings. Even Masato Kato disowns the game and did a better job with Chrono Cross, that above and beyond whatever Radical Dreamers tried to accomplish. Radical Dreamers is (to me at least) a demo to what later is known as Chrono Cross. BTW I love the analysis on this game though
