The Story of Devils Lake, ND from Pro Walleye Fisherman Johnnie Candle
Спорт
Devils Lake is known as one of the best walleye fisheries in the midwest. Fro Walleye Angler Johnnie Candle calls it his home body of water. Candle talks about the rising water levels and how parts of the city of Devil's Lake North Dakota is under water.
A four-year drought shifted into an epic rainy cycle starting in 1993 when storms pelted the area and heavier snowfalls melted onto the waterlogged land. By the time driving summer showers arrived, the lake, with nowhere to go, spilled unchecked across our notoriously flat topography. The water rose nearly five feet that first year, destroying lakeside homes and, of course, farmland. As the precipitation, continued, the lake had doubled in size by 1999.
Capt. Ross Robertson has made his complete living chasing walleye as a full time professional angler for more than 20 years. Through the years he has worn many hats including time as a fishing guide, boat salesman, TV host, outdoor writer, product designer, tournament fisherman, speaker, radio host and podcaster to name a few.
Ross fishes ice-out to ice-up on the Great Lakes. He spends the majority of the year walleye fishing on Lake Erie’s Western and Central basins.

Oh kool, I was there yesterday on a fishing trip! Nice people and town, good fish! 😊
I played this video for my coup. We ice fish devils lake and enjoy the heck out of it. We’ve only seen devils lake in the winter. And being on the ice in wind storms it all looks the same. We’re going again in January. I’ve talked to people about this. Weird. Thanks !
