The story behind "Killer" with Adamski | Muzikxpress 076

For this week’s vlog I spoke to no one else than the legendary Adamski, which is an alias of UK based DJ / producer Adam Paul Tinley. In March 1990 his track “Killer” came out, which was a collaboration with Seal. The track became a massive hit in various countries all around the world and it is considered as one of the most iconic house tracks from the early 90s.
Next year “Killer” turns 30, so a good reason to catch up with Adamski, to talk with him about the birth of “Killer”, what happened after the release, the 30th anniversary of “Killer” and more!
And besides that, you will get to hear more as well about the 30th anniversary of the Adamski track “N-R-G” and the special re-release of that one!
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

muzikxpress For sure, cause I was 14 years old in the summer of 1990! This track was a huge hit and got a lot of airplay on the radio. Great interview, and after all those years I now know where the tracktitle came from ;-)

Being born in 1981 I can honestly say this was the tune that got me in to dance music. I don't know why but hearing this now just reminds me of Italia 90.

What a lovely real interview. I know Adamski isn't going to be interviewed by Fallon or Norton but I love the coffee, the trains above, the pink beard and the easy going Adamski talking about his history.

One of the most epic and influential tracks of all time. Killer changed how base would envelope dance music for the next 10 years.
I spent a lot of time in his company 25 yrs ago, and I've never heard him talk so much as in this interview - lovely to see him still jazzed and at it!

This dude is a legend. PERIOD
Killer had a huge impact on me ,I was 16 when I heard it and I couldn’t stop listening to it,it sounded like nothing else and still sounds unique and fresh. I went out and bought liveandirect which I still love then doctor adamski came out.
I love how he clearly and humbly lays out all those production details and his sources of inspiration! Awesome interview.

Glad you enjoyed it! Still very happy with this interview, Adamski is a legend and such a down to earth guy!
Adamski is a producer’s producer. He knows how to program synths/samplers/etc insanely well. This dude should be more well known than Mike Dean or any other producer using basicass patches.
I was at the Hacienda that night, awesome :-) Still got Killer on white label.

That was a hit in 1990. As a DJ at that time l loved it , l played it at the club n home all the time
Another great interview! Killer is a classic Old Skool rave/dance anthem. Because it's been covered so many times, it is a testament to how good the track is; I still can't believe it the track was made just by messing around on the keyboard!

"I would like to win a signed 'Killer' vinyl because I love the 90s so much. I was born in 1981 and the 90s made me as I'am now. Adamski - Killer and "Bass line changed my life" are also part of that time." Great performer!
Well it certainly was a Killer Track, one of the best ever, the instrumental original is perfect anyway, with Seal on vocals with it to its just Amazing. Its the first track on my first tape of 16 C90s all full from 1990 to early 1991 recorded from Club Music on Astra Satellite so couldn't start with better song, huge thankyou to him, tested and setup the sound system in my car when i installed the 10 inch bass in rear shelf Killer, sounded amazing
I saw adamski , Energy rav , what a legend massive respect Adam
Bassline changed my life.

This track never dates. Heard it on the radio today (2023 , almost) and thought i got to know the background to this. Awesome
Wow I never knew Adamski played the piano on Better Days. An early piano house classic. It was sampled by Congress for 40 Miles, that got pretty high in the charts in 1991.
I was lucky to be a part of the early 80s LA acidhouse scene, saw Adamski in Hollywood back then.

And here we go again. Great interview of this great track. So seal started here. Interesting how things come together. ATB was the DJ that introduced this track to me. Still a top favorite from my early Trance years. I’m guessing he doesn’t like Techno or Trance. 😂😂😂😂 Thanks Twan. I’m learning more with these videos more than I ever did reading longgggg music reviews or blogs.

muzikxpress ok will do. Just had this impression he didn’t. Maybe it was that early stuff he got annoyed with. Keep it up bro. You are Getting better at this.
Great interview and some interesting insights on this classic song. One of my all time favourite songs, this is one of those rare songs that doesn't need a cover or a remix, the song is just flawless, perfect in my opinion from start to finish. The production, Seal's voice, the video, absolutely everything is perfection. I would never imagine being at the Hacienda and listening this for the first time, those people there were lucky, they were witnessing history in the making.

Loved DADDY CHESTER great m.c!
Interesting to hear Adamski muse upon the possible influences for his "Killer" bassline. I always hear similarities with the bassline from "Trans-X - Living On Video," which debuted out in the early-to-mid 80s, just a few years before Killer came out. Similar to how the "Black Box - Ride On Time" bassline is also very similar in structure and rhythm to the bassline on "Theme from S-Express."
I flipping love this one!
Great interview!

Mind 🤯 Blown
Awesome.
I remember the late of 90's when I heard the first time the song Killer performed by ATB. I thought then that Andre Tanneberger is the producer of this song. I did not have access to the Internet at that time and I found out a few years later that it was cover remix from the early 90s song.

I would like to win a signed "killer" vinyl because...Adamski is one of my top all time DJ inspirations (his music made me start up my own DJ journey) and Killer was one of the tracks played (almost non stop) by friends & I over the summer i left school (1990). Such good times. Please please let me win this haha. :)

"I would like to win a signed 'Killer' vinyl because a) I don't have the 12" version (only the 7") and b) I'll be lonely without it and that's the killer."
En España a finales de los 70 y principio de los 80 habia un programa de television que se llamaba MUSICAL EXPRESS😅😅
I like doing compilations for myself. Even now (2020) when you sandwich this track (with just the baseline) between two other tracks of other artists/producers (regardless of what genre really) - it has this kindof psychological effect on the listener (or is it - the feeler?) being slapped into consciousness - being made to pay closer attention. It's like up to that point - you realize that you were just half-listening, grooving along to a set of tunes and now the real deal just crashed the party. Then all the spacey digital sounds start taking you some where digitally darker. And when seal's voice comes on (combined with an actual message) you're done! The feel and message of this track would've made it perfect with the end credits going up on screen for the first Arnold Schwarzenegger "Terminator" movie. - no matter how much money it made, it would've made so much more with it included!!!
Genuine lad
WOW, KOOL !..) Humanoid Adamskiiii !!..))

Great sunglasses ... where can I get them ??
This track still hits hard.
So the percussion was kind of random. How great is that! He just plugged in the MIDI cable from his drumcomputer into his keyboard and the notes produced these random sounds. That's a great anecdote. B.T.W. If you have forgotten how great this track worked in the club, the live piece you put in the beginning remembers you very quickly. Cheers, Robert
