Backlight bleed is unfortunately not a Steam Deck problem, but an IPS screen problem. Every IPS screen will tend to have at least some level of backlight bleed, even high end tvs and computer monitors can have it.
@EhurtAfy
7 ай бұрын
Yeah and a lot of TVs and monitors have different backlight features like dimming zones, Direct-lit, Full-Array, and Edge-Lit which attempt to increase contrast. On my TV it just looks like backlight bleed, doesn't really help picture quality in my experience

This is not normal backlight bleed, the screen isn't fully seated so the backlight is shining through. That is not supposed to happen when seated properly.

"pressing harder till it disapear" Worst advice. There would be cases in which pixels of the display would "disappear" before the lightbleed.
We have to see the quality improvements on future revisions but Valve sure did a great work for the 1st gen also the expanded catalog of pc gaming is awesome

The light leak around the edges happens because the screen isn’t seated right (happens because they heat it up to put it in and then as it cools it contracts and the seal can get loose). Instead of twisting it, just get a heat gun and put it on low for like 30 seconds and then gently go around the edge of the screen with fingers and press down on all four corners at once. Should fix that problem. But don’t turn the heat gun up all the way and don’t put it too close to the screen and don’t just keep it on one area. Unless you want to start a fire then by all means

Two Steamdecks in my house. Both have no backlight issue, but it's true some have seen an issue with more backlight bleed than is normal.
Feels like the correct solution should be a compressible frame between the screen and case to kill any potential light bleed, as long as that doesn't compromise cooling. Hopefully, now that valve should be aware of this, they can start addressing it during the refurbishing process and nobody has to crack their deck's neck going forward.

Steam doesn't care about backlight bleed like this. I've brought it up to support and they told me to deal with it, and it's not something they'll repair. I was lucky I was within my 14 day return window; I refunded it.
@anonymousx6651
5 ай бұрын
If that could work the leading solution to having lightbleed on your screen from the internet wouldn't be "ignore it"
Holy my language was on the start screen :)
That blacklight bleeding is a danger on all LCD screens (which most of the TVs and monitors are, except for higher range, like >$800, though QLED is expensive and still also LCD) It sometimes, but not always, can be fixed by massaging the spot, where it is happening. You aren't very likely to get a refund because of it, same goes for a few dead pixels, from most brands.
You could just keep it connected to a TV but that's crazy it has lighting issues.
For the generation that had the first few GameBoys with no backlighting whatsoever, this is a very minor issue for a great machine.
Well, at least it's not the red ring of death.

The left trigger tends to have this weird issues where ot constantly acts like it's being pressed when it's not
Nice loop, heheh
That's why you get the OLED, no backlight 🤗
I SERIOUSLY thought I was crazy WulffDen… I noticed the backlight edge bleed out of the box but later got used to it, until one day I accidentally SAT ON MY STEAM DECK, freaked tf out, and then later realized that the backlight bleed was vanished. Thank you so much for giving me closure that I wasn’t just imagining the weird backlight issues
well, that made me flinch
Maybe it's because I'm still too scared to fully do what needs to be done, but I did sort of try this with my 512GB model Deck and unfortunately there's still noticeable light bleed in the bottom right corner :/ Mine isn't refurbished btw. Received it new last year back when the waitlist was still insanely long, and I was so excited to have it I didn't want to immediately send it back, but now I'm thinking I should have, because this thing was too expensive to have an issue like this, and it's too expensive to risk breaking it with the twist method.

Lol yeah I really plan on having it plugged into the tv most of it's life, so I'm not worried about the screen. I plan on getting a refurbished one soon. I can't imagine crunching my stream deck 😅
Light bleeding is really common issue with ips panels. It's pretty much unavoidable on monitor unless you spend a good bunch on one. You don't see it on phones or tablets because of how hermetically they are factured for the IP waterproof and dustproof certifications.
I have this problem bad but I’m terrified to twist it and I have no way of knowing how hard is actually safe so I’ll just deal with it.
Yup I’ve had two Steamdecks and both have backlighting issues / colour gradient changes on the left side, mainly noticeable on the Home Screen.
Rex from Pantera talking to me about a steam deck
Thanks dude now I have two steam decks
INSTRUCTIONS UNCLEAR STEAMDECK TURNED INTO SWITCH 2
My Rog Ally has the same back light bleeding. It’s only noticeable when most of the screen is black. It’s just an issue with most displays.
The steam decks biggest issue is the fact it's a Linux device. (Here comes all the Linux fan boys to fall on their swords) I bought 2 steamdecks, a launch version and an oled version and the only complaint I have is the compatibility dumpster that is Linux. You have to jump through soooo many hoops to install and play certain titles. Ffxiv is a good example of this right now. Or we could go installing mods to skyrim on the deck. 🤷♂️ let the your wrongs begin.
honestly wish they were available in my country
nah, I can't see any differences at all in those comparison pictures so I guess I'm fine with the "backlight Problem".
My kid's nintendo switch light had a similar issue, the screen wouldn't light up & wouldn't charge, gave it a good chunky twist then boom! Screen was back & started charging 🤣
Instructions unclear, gave it a crunchy twist and I think I released a blood clot. The right stick is droopy and the screen is all blurry... did I just give it a stroke?
My backlight has glowing blacks next to the charge port. I always assumed it had something to do with playing while charging and getting too hot there.
You look like my favorite guitarist, Phil Tougas
One time I un-bent my Sony cellphone and it started working perfectly again, lol
That's NOT a fix!!! As someone who fixes electronics, don't ever twist your Steam Deck, because it could potentially lead to a bigger problem…
