The STAIRS Are Almost DONE / Off Grid LOG CABIN Building (S3 Ep19)
After 3 years I finally have the stairs in my log cabin to go from the first to the second floor and I don't need the ladder anymore. After the fall I took I really could wait to finish the stairs. It took me a lot of work and many tries to fit perfectly the beams on which the stairs are mounted. I also had to lower the landing of the stairs otherwise I would always hit my head against the second floor joist. At first I though to just bend every time to avoid hitting it, but then a friend came by and told me to lower it right aways to not regret in later and he also came to help me do it. The purpose of that middle platform is to reduce the steepness of the stairs. For sure it was one of the more challenging but very rewarding builds in the end.
Thank you for watching!

Its 06:16 AM here. Just about finish my breakfast.
You went from dragging the timbers to carrying them, and altho some material got removed, your body soon remembered its strength. I've always hated cutting stairs, my hats off too you for figuring it out. I guess the #1 thing most Americans forget to do is remove all the distractions so we can think more clearly. Ya know, someday long after we're dead and gone, someone will be asked who built this beautiful home and a descendant of yours will respond with a great amount of pride My granddaddy built it with his own two hands and a few tools.
I have been watching since he cut the first tree. He shows when he makes a correction or a mistake, and that is probably why I enjoy watching this so much. I always do it right, because I always do it twice... He always overcomes any problem and his hard work always pays off. Also its fun to see his family and friends helping out, just a great channel. THANK YOU!

I live on a homestead where development took 10 years, and looked at other You Tube vides for ideas, most of which are completely phony for us real alpha men, and NIK's Channel surpasses them all.
The whole family are Master Carpenter's , I enjoyed your many videos ...... Thank-you for the videos .......
Afternoon Nik. Them stairs are a thing of beauty like a work of art and look a million $.
The best part of the whole video is to watch how you allow and encourage your kiddos to help. Watching your family work together warms my heart.

really? the boy is too young to work machines or do lifting and serious work, the girl and woman are ... well yeah, they can do small parts. To me it is more of a good example of a healthy way they seperate work: the man does the craftman, carpentry etc work and she supports the best she can. Dont kid yourself, there wont be a woman out there able to do this sort of work. The most you will find is women building little garden houses and calling them log cabinets or even houses. A woman can create life, but we sustain it thru these impressive builds, like houses etc. sort of like> men make it so you survive and a womans touch is the comfort and synergy to the perfect life.

Your home is a thing of beauty Nic, I’ve watched from day one as you fell, cleaned and cut your logs. It’s been a journey. Your sheer craftsmanship and attention to detail has your name mentioned in many of the other videos I follow, you are much admired, for good reason. Your staircase is beautiful , to you and your family, all good wishes from Scotland, take care and stay safe 🌷😊👍
I look forward to every video you post! You're living my dream build! Keep up the good work!

I have followed you form the beginning, saw you putting in the concrete footings, thinking to myself, what is this crazy man up to.. The world is a little bit better having crazy people like you, Nik.. thank you
I love that amber glow of the house as the sun reflects off all that wood inside. It looks like a beautiful home. Each one of those steps is a unique piece of art/craftsmanship. Job well done.
Impressive---both from an artistic viewpoint and from a family one. Sweet inclusion of the family. Looking good, Nik!
nik those aren't just stairs, its art, a show piece for sure! and gorgeous art at that. there is no way anyone can come into your house and not be calm, relaxed, and happy with what you guys are crafting in this master piece. wow, just, wow!! thank you for sharing.
I like when a mate comes over to help with the build and blows a few bubbles at the camera for a good shot!!!! Beautiful stairs Nik!!!! Zelo dobro!!!!!
My mom,97 years old, and i have watched your progress and we are amazed at your talents. The stairs and your log cabin are absolutely beautiful ! We saw this video last night.

He sure did build it mostly alone but didn't seem to be lacking for graciously offered help at critical times. Old school community, sans Internet and laziness.
I have to say, Nik, just watching all the manual labor and hefting all those heavy logs was exhausting! Holy COW! Beautiful!!!
I love how your dog isn't phased by anything! : )
I really wonder how many homes in the world are built with this kind of dedication and just plain hard work? I would say that you can count on one hand!!! Doing so very good Nic

WOW AWESOME STAIRS WHAT A MASTER PIECE OF WORK NIK YOU TRULY A CRAFTS MAN AND YOU ARE BLESSED WITH SUCH SKILLS FROM THE CREATOR ABOVE MAY HE BLESS YOU
I have been looking forward to this episode for 2 years. They say the true test of a carpenter is to build a set of stairs. You nailed it my friend, they are unique and beautiful. You are unorthodox in the way you go about things and the tools you choose. It reminds me of my younger days just figuring things out as I went and it has triggered some very fond memories for me and I thank you very much for that. You have the most entertaining channel!
You have created the most beautiful staircase I have ever seen.
The place is looking great buddy. You are a true craftsman.
A true master craftsman. Can’t wait for your videos to see what’s next.
I've built decks before with steps pain in the a@s,couldn't even imagine trying to do it with half logs,my hats off to you Nik,looks ten times better than a normal staircase....Amazing....started watching you when you were cutting trees down you sure have come a long way!
So beautiful 😍 Your attention to detail is impressive. All the best. It is really nice. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family.
Patience, Persistence, PERFECT! Majestic MASTERPIECE!
The sweatshirt is giving you your power back. be careful with the power and always protect your back. I believe that you got so strong with the build that you injured your back and it's been a long time since you've done this kind of lifting because of it, and I could see that you were in protection mode in some of the lifts with the bigger log, I also saw you were trying to be as careful as you could and working around the injury. I know because I've been there, I'm sure you were feeling it. You're like I used to be, too strong for your own frame. I'm 60 now and doing a lot of physical therapy and swimming to wear in the rough spots. I'll get off my soap box now, but I'm glad the sweatshirt is back! You've done so much, I'm so proud of you! Sincerely, Todd

I didn't know about the fall till now. I know when you are doing the hairiest and most dangerous parts of the builds you like to work alone so no one else gets hurt, like when you put up all the A frames, the most dangerous part of the build. I know how careful and methodical you are, please be extra careful and be safe always. Todd
You have committed an incredible amount of work, artistry and craftsmanship into building your staircase. Tremendous beauty foe decades yet to come and a true family heirloom. Wishing you and your family a blessed spring season filled with gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace brother
He's doing a beautiful job on the cabin,,,,👍
I really like the swing that you put up! Definetly fun. A lot of work to get those stairs done but so Worth it. Beautiful! Glad you had a filter mask on. It's so nice that your children and wife want to help. They are also a great clean up crew! I was thinking about a nice project to make for your good lady. . .a bread box and a cutting board! I figure you have already made a memory box for her. Wonderful to see everyone today! Blessings on you and your family and friends and any wild life in your area!!🦋☀️🌾🐣🖖🦆
That really is the most wonderful bespoke staircase ever … congratulations on wonderful work .
Hazel ☘️ Magnificent … so masterfully created ! 🙏☘️😘
I bet that triple layer hardened glass has cost an arm and a leg. That had to be made to order by a firm specializing in that sort of thing.
Only found your site towards end of season 2, so watched the years view. My goodness I agree that you are a true craftsman. Remind me so much of my grandfather. He was always meticulous in everything he did and he mastered so many skills, of which he passed onto my brothers. Wish I’d taken more notice now, however I am a good painter and furniture restorer. Wonderful to see your children engaged in the build too.
I always support you in Korea. 🙏

Marvellous video. Such a lovely icestorm interlude. Incredible hard work and lovely results. Thank you.
Love your dogs and family. Keep the fantastic stories/videos coming.
The stairs are beautiful and meticulously done as is the rest of your home. Love seeing your family assisting you build your beautiful home. I've watched since its inception and I think it's one of the most beautiful homes I've seen that was not done by a contractor. Your vision shows in the results you achieve. As always, I look forward to the next episode in your journey to complete your forever home. Well done, my friend. I'm proud to be part of your "framily". {a word that Melanie uses in the channel "Simple Life Reclaimed"}. Thank you for sharing your journey and I wish the best to you and your family.
You Sir, are an artist first and formost. Your brush is your saw and your canvas is your cabin. Beautiful work!
A Piece of art! Congratulation

It is such a pleasure to watch you solve problems w/common sense rather than brute force. (Shifting the stringer over.) I've watched since the beginning and I am in awe of your craftsmanship. All the best for you and your family.
You are a master builder with the things that mother nature gives you - unbelievable how you have almost single handedly built this amazing log home!! You and your family should be proud.

You’re truly a blessed craft man Nic, not very many like you are around anymore… really love how the stringers and treads turn out respect for sharing , beautiful well done job
It is the most beatiful and artistic staircase I have ever seen! Many homeowners would probably be willing to pay large sums for you to install such a staircase in their home. Wow... Many love from Sweden!

Never fail to disappoint. It's a rhythm and pace of building and life that is beautiful from start to getting near the finish.
Sun light coming thru the windows was just awesome in the cabin! Love that glass landing to. Your such a craftsman Nik!
I wanted to come through the screen to help with that first log coming through the front door. I like your grit and determination.
oglądam od początku ,opanowanie , precyzja , cisza, dokładność - jesteś niesamowity .
Nik, must be so satisfying to get this cabin to this point. Beautiful job. You are a great craftsman and family man to boot:). How you got those stair stringers to fit so perfectly and have the treads be level is beyond me!!!
The stairs are really good and the physical ability of his wife is also amazing 👍
As if I wasn’t impressed already by how tightly your walls fit, you create this work of art of a staircase and landing. So beautiful using the tree base. I can hardly wait to see what’s next!
I have followed many off grid projects and this one just stands out to be the best of them all. The attention to detail that you have thrown into this is just amazing.

It's always nice to hear you both speaking Italian, everytime I wonder which part of the slovenian alps you live.
Thanks for another excellent and very enjoyable video. It is great to see you all working together. Which reminds me, I really should get my finger out and fix that squeaky floorboard that has been driving me mad (for 17 years)...
I've been watching your vidéos for a week... it's not a house but a work of Art ! Streng to you and "BRAVO" 👌👌👍👍❤❤😊😊
Mini grinder with flapper discs are a very handy , multiple use tool. Good work all the way. Thank you for sharing your accomplishments with us.
it is almost like music to see him measuring things here and there and heavy gentle lifting now and then. it is a skill i could never hope to come close much less to use but it is still a joy learning how he does it.
Nik, staircase looks great! I like the way you kept the profile of the treads. Your helper is going to be a pro in no time. Best regards to all!
Have been looking forward to the stair build. Amazing craftsmanship! Thank you for posting.
The staircase is magnificent. The work of a true artist

Absolutely beautiful staircase, I know you must be proud of your work.
Love your video. Very exciting project. One day I'm going to build my own house ;)
Nick, your hard work started paying off. Every day you getting closer from finish. Yeah, it may look to some viewers insane work since you lifting these big logs again and again to make sure they fit perfectly. It your determination to build something you and your family will enjoy and cherish for the rest of your life. Keep the good work. Best of luck to you to the end.
