The SSL 4000 Recording Console - Part 2 - The Centre Section - Teardown & Calibration
Take a close up tour of the legendary Solid State Logic 4000 series console!
This video looks at the mono channel strip and all of its functions, we also pull out a strip from the console to have a close up look.
Part 3 will delve into the power supplies and calibration methods.
If you have any questions or clarifications, leave them in the comments and we'll try to do a followup video soon.
Also forgive my waffling, it's quite difficult to explain the complexities of these consoles in a 15 minute video, but I've edited it down the best I could

Makes me nostalgic to see this. This week we install an Origin in our A room. Just had to watch this as its been years since I operated a 4000.

Very COOL! I haven't sat in front of a 4k in 22 years or the 9k in 18 years. though I could heat up a McMuffin on the 9k.

This would be considered a console. Larger then a mixer.

Why is there DBX product inside the SSL console?

DBX were (and still are) one of the world's largest producers of VCA chips. Many SSL products used DBX VCAs and op-amps.
