Hey guys! In the video, I’d like to correct that when I said that splatoon 3 has no genders, it’s not entirely true (proven by some of the comments). I’d like to apologize for getting that wrong. But thank you for the support on this video!

@@whita19 all 4 options literally have the exact same body type, that being athletically-slim. Canonically, inklings r 5"ft tall, & octolings r approximately btwn 5"ft-5"8; but in game there's physically no difference there either. If body types were an option, we'd b able to customize height & weight, but those don't exist (yet*?).

3:36 Funny fact, in Splatoon 1, jump was actually the X button, not the B button, most likely because the right stick on the Wii U Gamepad was closest to the X button! In Splatoon 2 and the change in default controller, Jump was moved to the B button being closer to the stick and the map on the Gamepad was moved to the X button. Ah, the finer details.

There's something wholesome about the OG Splatoon 1 direct. This whole thing was such an original and strange concept that it's likely Nintendo didn't know how to sell it. Compare this to the trailers we see for Splatoon 2 and 3, it's very straight to the point.

i need a map/maps of the splatoon world STAT! (like where all the stages fit into the world)

back in splatoon 1, Blasters where classified as shooters and Brushes where classified as rollers Splatlings where free DLC And it took to splatoon 3 for us to get what I'd consider a subclass for chargers, stringers E-liter 3k is the 4k but with 15% more range... imagine that in splat 3... terrifying Bubbler was 7 seconds minus 1 second duration for each ally you chain to Burst Bomb also only consumed 25% ink on use, and you could get it down to 20% easily.instead of 45% we have now

This direct is nostalgic and it's the GOOD kind of cringe. Splatoon 1's servers have been down for 2 and a half months now, and I'm so glad I grinded the hell out of it last summer before splat 3 came out. I'm level 50 and I have every weapon and every piece of gear. Never got to S+ though

@@Tophhhhhh you could play on the tv and the game pad separately, it’s not technically split screen but its kind of like it so their mistake is understandable

Small corrections : Brushes were rollers and blasters were shooters until splatoon 3 gave them their own classes Dynamo was absolutely BUSTED in S1 and is the reason of like half of the nerfs in the game its due to the fact it along with other rollers had no damage falloff meaning that any speck of ink shot from it would OS coupled to the fact that at launch it was a middleweight weapon made it SCARY

the nostalgia is REALLL 31:00 SQUID JUMPPPP I LOVED THAT GAME w video as always!!

This is exactly why I like to joke that splatoon was the first and only time in my life I experienced love at first sight. Before the game released I saw the trailer for it and was absolutely captivated by it. I've never seen anything like it! Hell I hated shooters yet I immediately knew I HAD to play this game 8 years later this silly ass game is still my hyperfixation. The only shooter to grow up with me. I wouldn't want it any other way

Looking back in this video kinda feels like a warm, sad, and nostalgic window into the past. Funnily enough, I remember Splatoon 1’s base filled up with a lot more squids with Miiverse posts compared to the DLC that was included in Splatoon 3. It feels kinda unfortunate how after being let loose in the Splatlands and seeing the vast plaza, Inkopolis Plaza seems so much smaller in comparison. Every future Splatoon installment isn’t going to be like the last, but there was something about 1 that understood it’s whole theme and feel, down to the advertising and Direct. As every next installment releases, there’s something about how the games present themselves as you growing up along with them. Splatoon 1 rocked my preteen years and 3 is absolutely amazing at my current age. Looking back it feels funnily strange, where you think to yourself “Huh, was it all really this silly?” As every installment continues to get more serious and bombastic with its theming. I still look back on Splatoon 1 as being a factor of my growth in entertainment, though there’ll never quite be a game that will match it’s thematics down to a T.

Congrats on 1K. Also, it does not hold up. Those Mii Costumes are creepy

I WAS on Team Cats. I’ve been playing Splatoon since the first Global Testfire on the WiiU. 😭 I remember hating how it looked at E3 when it was revealed and then slowly coming to love it and giving it a try in the Global Testfire

Here’s the interesting thing, that statue is based off real figures that exist and sense splatoon is post apocalyptic earth. Inkings most likely became inspired by these figures results in statue like the fox and also tanuki we see in splatoon1’s plaza. On top of that, think about how much the splatoon inhabitant’s knowledge is a based on human remanence. Like think about how much of there idea of dinosaurs is based on old Jurassic park merch. The whole splatoon world really is just a sunken ship situation. Anyway on a funnier note I like to imagine the urchin like Spike and Merch have a deep seeded instinctual hatred towards sea otters. Like there’s just a bunch of imagery left behind by humans and urchins just destroy and vandalize it all.

On the three weapon types, Blasters and Brushes were just counted as shooters and rollers respectively instead of their own class!

They never got rid of genders in SPTN3, as proven by the pitch of their voices, as well as having 2 squid & octoling choices. The only thing gender related they did was make every hair style & gender-locked clothing style on the amiibos accessible for everyone to wear.

The only thing squid surge is useful for is maybe getting a jump on a person, or just waiting on a wall. It’s useless for climbing a wall. It’s still better to just smash the jump button.

2:25 they actually do have “genders” pay a close look at the pants, ofc in game there’s no gender lock so you can wear whatever (wich is amazing for people who feel like they don’t really fall into a “gender” or want to wear whatever) but the protagonist can be female or male it’s just never spoken or mentioned (wich is also pretty cool)

Biological sex and gender are different things, sex is your body aspects and gender is the way you feel and wasn't to be percieved by society. So by not mentioning anything about gender, that is a conformation that gender is no longer relevant in splatoon and you can merely pick the biological sex of the character instead.

The squid research lab presentation was great. I used to watch it on loop 'cause I couldn't get the game.

The blaster still count as the shooter even in splatoon 2 afaik, they finnaly change it as it's own category in splatoon 3

I (kinda) remember this Splatoon direct a long time ago back in May 2015. The Splatoon direct was weird, but awesome at the same time! I had fond memories with Splatoon. I used to have a Wii-U back then to play these awesome Wii-U titles like Splatoon for a example (and others like New Super Mario Bros-U, Nintendoland, Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, Skylanders Trap Team-Imaginators, Yoshi's Wooly World, Epic Mickey 2, and Super Smash Bros Wii-U for a example). But sadly though in October 2018, I sold my Wii-U for Xbox One X.

I still spam the jump button cuz im so used to spamming it...I honestly forget I can squid surge and squid roll...sometimes lol😅

On the topic of "things we take for granted now that were revolutionary back then", how about those gyro controls? I remember a lot of people being skeptical at the time, but it not only became a hallmark of Splatoon, but was adopted by several other shooters because of how intuitive it ended up being

I remember when they added rank S and S+ but the matching was still bad, I was in a lobby full of rank S people and I was rank B+

Man... It feels weird just *hearing* about this old Direct. Like, so much about the OG Splatoon felt like it was a fever dream. By the way, the clothing used by the official staff during the Global Testfire was purely cosmetic, just like the gear you could get from pre-ordering the game during the Global Testfire. Both gear sets could be found in the final game's files (after an update as initially both gear sets weren't present in the files) alongside early, rough/unfinished duplicates and completely unused gear. One of the interesting things about the Global Testfire itself is the fact no save data if created upon booting the demo (why would it be created in the first place, not like you gain any EXP or Money after a battle or that there's any data that could be transferred), as a result if the game is closed after the Global Testfire is finished for the day (or closed in general for any reason) the pre-purchase gear is lost, most likely forever unless stated otherwise, meaning if you came back for the remaining days to play some more you'd look like everyone else except those who work at Nintendo who would be wearing the special gear made for them. Sucks to be a rage-quiter during that event, huh?

Bro its been almost 9 years, I was in elementary school 🤣 I think it was probably the beginning of summer break before 5th grade, I bought the game day 1 at gamestop, I think I still got my free squid hat somewhere, I kept it for a long time. I still remember that day too, I don't think I had really played it much or maybe even gotten into a match at first that day, and I remember goin to my neighbors to play with their grandson, who was one of my school buddies, childhood memories. Anyways I'm kinda ramblin here in some youtube comment section, it's like past midnight and I should probably go get ready for bed, I made it 1:57 into the video, nice
