"Let's try a third mouse" At this point you're just showing off how diverse your mouse collection is.
People are always trying to build a better mouse trap. Some of the older ones are the best. Think the trap needs a drop or 2 of grease to spin more freely.

Your bad luck with the spinner, beside the friction, is the design. I firmly believe you could get a lot better results if only you could add 3 and not 4 spinner poles. In a Mercedes Benz symbol configuration. As this has a better chance of rotational fall and less counterbalance as you see with some of your footage, when two mice go on a different direction blade, thus counterweighting each outer and cancel the action.

If you want to make it more sensitive, pre-drill holes in the smaller tube to go under the spinning part, so there wont be any suction/airtight friction. This also allows you to theoretically apply lubricant from the inside of the piping.

That moment with Carson just made me smile :)
I don't think that the 2 PVC pipes slipped on each other to make the trap sensitive enough. Perhaps coating the inner pipe with some odor free oil (canola oil) would increase its sensitivity. I also saw one mouse effect an easy escape by jumping up onto the paddle which was aimed straight down. It then climbed up and jumped out of the pail. I think it was the 1st mouse in the video. Overall, not one of the more effective traps. I think that if you'd coated the bottom of the pail with oil, that would have prevented them from escaping as well.

I'd drill some small holes in the ends of the paddles to fill with peanut butter. It would make the mice work harder for the bait & the bait would last through more mice. Multiple small holes would be better than a single one that can be emptied quicker.

9:24 “Today on mousetrap Monday, I’ll be showing you my latest humane way to catch mice: my son catches them with his hands 😂!”
City folk with a question here; I remember one of the earliest video of his showing why he prefers kill traps buckets to live catch buckets, namely because lots of mice trapped in a confined space led to some pretty brutal cannibalism among them... Yet since then every other time he tests a multiple livecatch, that hardly ever happen, they bite each other for a moment at worst or just sit tight and quiet most times. Just wondering if it is because of of a lot of selecting editing, or if something else gives. :o sorry for the long post!
@C-Henry

I think the difference is that he's putting padding in the bucket now, before he would put nothing or even some kind of oil to keep them from jumping out. And that's probably what stressed the mice enough to turn them aggressive. I'd just chalk it up to a learning curve, probably encouraged by KZread's policies. His distaste for sticky traps seems proof enough that he takes no pleasure in an animals suffering, even a pest like a mouse, so I believe that its just the change in techniques that he has developed over time.

Gnutzguy Also it would help to have little divots on the inside, about 4 so it can make a quarter turn, and the other side would have little humps, but they would be round and lubed, this will give the mouse a false feeling of sturdiness.

Such a cute little guy . So precious .
On the explosive mousetrap idea, I read somewhere years ago about someone using an ammonium compound that is stable when wet but explosive when dry. They would use a common spray bottle to spray it along baseboards and places where rodents ran, and let it dry. When the rodents ran on the dry compound it would explode like a firecracker. I can't remember the formula, but I would not recommend making it. It was very unstable when dry. It was one of those things high school chemists used to remove their own fingers with back when I was young.
Aww, I love how they're cuddling each other.

Excellent work as always Shawn. Have a fantastic break with your wonderful family.
I'd be interested in seeing a head to head of the top few traps. Whilst some are obviously more effective at working without fail, others might be better at encouraging mice by either being less alarming or making them more inquisitive. Could do like 3 at a time and see which wins over the period of a week or so?
Shawn, its really uplifting seeing you with your family. You are a kind, humble man; a great role model. I wish I could be such a good dad. Thank you
Happy Thanksgiving! Awesome video! Love the homemade trap ideas!
Drill holes in the end of the paddles and fill them with pb. Makes it harder for the mice to eat it before getting dunked. Also some dry teflon spray on the inside between the tubes will help with it turning.
Great trap! I love the way you interact with your children and make them a part of daily of everything. They're just so cute too, Thanks Shawn‼️🍂🍃🍁🐀
Kudos Shawn, your channel is so entertaining, love it
That's an effective trap as it is, Thanks Shawn. Replacing the rings with a dab of glue 1/16" away will reduce the contact area so the outer tube will rotate easier without lube. Abrading the tabs using 60 grit will help the bait to adhere. Good job Carson. Happy Thanksgiving to all your family.
If you put some silicone spray, or maybe a little plumbers’ grease, on the inside pipe of this trap, I think the outside module would spin more freely. Also, if the radial spokes were longer, the mice would have to climb farther out to get the bait, which would be more likely to make it spin. But then you might need a larger, or at least deeper, bucket to make room for that.
My kitten really likes this one in particular. If only there was an 8 hour version of this so she has something to watch while I'm at work.
