The Soviet "EAGLE EYE" lens - Industar-61 L/Z MC 50mm f2.8 Review

Фильм және анимация

This Soviet Tessar has a reputation for being razor sharp - but is that reputation deserved? In today's mega-review, I check out this 50mm f/2.8 and see whether it's worth picking it up.

At Mar-2024, I bought one at Hong Kong with HKD $750 (USD ~$96), and it comes with a "M42 to Nikon Z" adapter and even a 49mm thread metal hood. Cool. Now using with K&F Concept "IV PRO" series M42 to Sony E adapter, B+W XS-PRO 49mm filter. Works very excellent with Sony A7 II camera. Thank you for the explantion on the aperture ring mechanism. I understand how to operate this good feature now.

I call the 61L/Z the Christmas lens, because it produces star bokeh. It needs no lens hood or protective filter, because the front element is way back inside the lens body. It's multicoated and is sharp. It also does macro. It is a keeper.

It's absolutely fabulous for BW. I've used it to shoot on Exacta rtl1000 and even on my photoenlarger where it beat by great margin the simple amateur enlarger lens. It actually looked like you've applied sharpen to the images even if they have been shot with a less sharp lenses.

industar-61 lz was my first lens ever :) using this from '88, it has been dropped many times on stones and pavement, got a few big flanges (no more filters possible to attach), but still works as required. try to drop some modern lenses and they're gone forever :)

The beauty of Soviet lenses :) I have a Mir-24M that's survived some big drops too, it's unbreakable.

Ha, USSR manufacturing wonders. When you run out of ammo for the mortar, load it up with lenses! 😂

Привет. I recommend paying attention to the helios 44m-6, 44m-7, 77m-4 lenses. But even in Russia, these lenses are not so cheap. 77m-4 is my favorite, managed to get it for only $20 week ago on a local classifieds site

Привет из австралии. Was that Avito? I used to look there sometimes to see what prices were like outside of eBay, and as you said, it wasn't that much cheaper. Definitely interested in picking up a 77M-4 at some stage though, $20 is a great price.
