When season 1 originally aired on HBO, I keyed my Dad into the show by comparing my maternal grandma (his mother-in-law) to Livia. He was shocked by how closely the show tracked. It became our own inside joke. 😁 By the way, Nancy Marchand was such a talented actress to make you hate Livia so much that you wanted Tony to kill her.

Christopher's dad died when he was still a baby, so Tony is what he bases his concept of manhood on. So Tony confessing to having any sort of weakness or vulnerability is too much for Chris to handle. I think that's why he reacted to the news of Tony going to therapy the way he did.
Livia was horrible, but big props to the late Nancy Marchand for playing her so brilliantly!
Samantha's "You bitch!" comment about Livia had me freakin' rolling! Paulie's run in with the poison ivy is one of my all-time favorite moments. Anytime somebody mentions poison ivy, I automatically think of Paulie and start laughing, LOL! Great reaction as usual with you two. Can't wait for you to start Season 2!

The thing I love about that scene is that Chris is full of murderous rage over his friend's death... But it's Paulie who shoots first, not for Brendon but because Mikey committed the cardinal sin of accidentally leading him into some poison ivy while running for his life. Paulie was officially the pettiest gangster to ever exist.

You two are awesome. Some people say how they wish they could see The Sopranos again as if it was the first time. Your reaction is the best, its like watching it all over again. Please keep it up! All of your videos.
The poison ivy incident comes up later on in a bizarre, funny way. You're through the first season. You've just begun to plumb the depths of this show.
Not that I was stalking the channel, but today sucked and I was waiting for this!!! I love it!!!
I always wanted a spin-off where Pauly and Silvio end up as roommates in a mob / Odd Couple-like comedy series. It would have been gold.
I bet they named Livia for Livia Drusilla, wife of the Emperor Augustus Caesar. She was a manipulative matriarch who was rumored to be responsible for the deaths of multiple members of her family.
Christopher took revenge for his friend, Paulie took revenge for his poison ivy.
@14:39 I've always really liked that ending to Season 1. There's something really comforting about it with the rain and power outage, and all.
FYI Chase has said explicitly that his mother was the model for Livia. I also heard him on a podcast saying he is trying ketamine therapy.
I am so glad you guys are into this masterpiece of a show. Enjoy the ride!
The reason for Tony's smirk was because the guy on TV said that it was "a crippling blow to mob activity" the reality of the situation is they won't even break stride
It's great that you still have 73 more episodes of one of the greatest shows ever made to enjoy, you are not gonna be disappointed. Your reactions to Season 1 have been excellent to watch, thank you. ☺
Sopranos is my all-time favorite show and for me, this is where the show starts getting really great. So excited for you guys! It gets better and better as it goes along! Also, long run, you guys will be amazed at this show's incredible replay value. Like a sauce that tastes better the next day, Sopranos only gets more amazing with repeated viewings! Have a great time, you guys!! Can't wait for season two!
James Gadolfini was so amazing! RIP
Thanks for the great S1 reactions! Bring on S2 (it keeps getting better). Btw, the internet blew up between S1 and S2 with the catchphrase "Where's Pussy?" There was even a billboard in Manhattan with the phrase on it. 🤣
This was a great season of reactions, can't wait to watch you guys react to the rest of the series! It just gets better and better as it goes on.
I highly recommend Stephen King's CREEPSHOW 1982, inspired by the EC Comics of the 1950's as well as being based on King's short stories, Adrienne Barbeau, Fritz Weaver , Carrie Nye, E G Marshall, Viveca Lindfors, Leslie Neilsen, Ted Danson Ed Harris, And King himself star in this comedy Horror film about a crated creature, a murdered man who wants his cake, a hillbilly encountering an alien plant, a murderous husband, and a corrupt businessman with a serious roach problem. "The most fun you'll ever have being scared." Directed by George Romero.

Great show and reactions so far. This isn't a spoiler because it's about the real actors...but it's crazy to think that James Gandolfini has been gone for almost 10 years now but the actor who played Junior (Dominic Chianese) is still alive and occasionally still acts.
Great video guys ❤
I love Artie. He's a little bit of a goofball and naive about Tony's influence, but he's a good guy trying to make a living and be friends with Tony. He wants to be one of the "guys" but as a civilian. Maybe he represents us as viewers, the guy that's enamored and intrigued by Tony but also firmly planted in the real world with a wife who helps keep him there. Great character.
Sam was right about Tony confronting his mom Livia about him knowing everything, that it was supposed to be at the end of the series. But the actress who plays Livia actually died IRL, so they had to cut it short. Idk, it was something like that. That stretcher scene was done with CGI. So, Samantha was right bout it!!
great reaction!! i hope you guys end up checking out season 2! it is even better than season one
i think it was established during the Tennessee Moltisanti ep that christopher finds therapy and admitting to depression to be laughable and inconceivable, in reality no one would respect the crime boss if he admitted to going to therapy so everyone very tentatively accepting tony’s situation is a big stretch.
I live a few blocks from Satriales Pork Store. A few years ago they bulldozed because the town felt it would it would constantly draw people to stop and take pictures and disrupt traffic. It's a parking lot now.

I don't remember how it panned out in the show, but I can't believe you would be able to fake a stroke with trained medical personnel around. After my mom had a stroke, they told me to monitor her blood pressure and O2 level, among other things, for anomalies that might presage another one. That is to say, I’m no nurse, but I think there are metabolic clues you wouldn’t necessarily be able to fake. And then once they get you to the hospital, they can do a brain scan to see if you had one.
Go take a Midol “The fu*k?!” This channel is awesome

The series creators of the Sopranos also have another show called Blue Bloods you should watch it when you’re finished with the Sopranos
Art's wife doesn't hate Tony and Carmella. She's jealous of Carmella and resents Art. She regrets missing her opportunity at an easy life with Tony.
War of ‘99 This is a great episode
I know this is an old video, but as to the point you made about Tony's crew not supporting him about his therapy, I think about it a different way. They're friendly with Tony, but they're not his friends. They're criminals with no/limited conscience or capacity for empathy. There's no honour among thieves, as they say. They could turn on each other at the drop of a hat. It's also a masculine culture, in which a leader worthy of respect is stoic and strong. I think that, in real life, mobsters would be far less tolerant of it than Paulie and Silvio were.
I tell you how I figured out my mom was having a stroke. She was in bed, her eyes were open, but she wasn't really answering me. I thought she might just be groggy. She managed to say something, but it wasn't meaningful. I called an on-call nurse, and she gave me some easy questions to ask, which she couldn't answer. The nurse told me have her repeat a phrase, which she couldn't do. She asked if my mom's face looked droopy anywhere or immobile (not that I could tell). I believe I remember her having me look in her eyes, but I don't remember if I was looking for large pupils or pinholes. She had me raise each arm in turn and tell her to hold it up, which she couldn't do. It didn't take long for the nurse to tell me to call an ambulance. If you get help within 3 hours of the stroke occurring, there are things they can do. She has recovered pretty well and can still talk (with word memory issues) and walk with a roller. You know, they have doctors and nurses you can call 24/7 in England for similar help (we experienced this when my husband had a blocked bladder while we were there). I only had access to this service in the US because my mom had recently had an operation (probably the cause of the stroke) and it was part of the aftercare. We need this to be available to everyone. It would save a lot of lives. Universal healthcare!
I'm like your wife i had never seen the first two season i really like watching with you guys
WELL......THIS EPISODE WAS UM.......SHOCKING IF YOU SAY?😳😳🤣🤣🤣

And I can’t wait till you get to the end of season 6, cause then you can watch the prequel movie ‘Many Saints of Newark’ with James Gandolfini’s real son playing young Tony.
Loved your season 1 reaction!!! If I may Meadow doesn't know know her father killed someone during they colleges campus visit.
Something you might want to do when you finish the series is go back and reflect on how much your attitude to the characters changes from season 1 through the last season. Would be interesting I think. You'll soon see that there is no real love or respect between ANY of the characters, not Artie and Tony nor Tony and his crew. In the end everyone is in it for themselves and every piece of information and weakness is taken on board and stored for use later on.
