Josh G I saw The Sonics in March when they headlined for Robert Plant. They were pure energy! My husband walked out of the concert wanting to resurrect his old high school garage band! Seriously, young musicians and bands could learn so much from them. And yeah, the drummer never quits!

I know right! I play them on our FM (and live streaming) radio show, The Church of Rock. We play ALL genres. Check it out sometime @ www.kskq.org or if you're in s.OR/n.CA, 89.5/94.1 on FM radio. We play all the awesome stuff you never hear on the radio.
I still remember very well, it was in 1972 in Paris (France), I was a kid and I asked my older brother: Elvis, The Stones, The Beatles, Chuck Berry, but tell me, what is Rock N Roll?. He came back with a vinyl 45 rpm, put it on the record player and... "Have Love will travel" changed my life, my vision of Rock. I never got over it. Thanks to all of you guys for this incredible performance. You are amazing. Cheers. Zep.
To see these old timers knock seven shades of shite out of these songs is a joy to behold. A visceral life-affirming rock n roll feast - god bless em.
This is the sound a lot of bands from the past 20 years have been trying to duplicate. The originals here crushing those bands over 60 years later

They had a couple tricks up their sleeve, one of them was having more than just guitars, bass, and drums.
@mattyo71

Other tricks include no autotune, no quantization, or corporate record labels that know nothing about music.
best drummer ive ever seen bar none . never heard of him till today and im 65 years old!great stuff Dusty so nice meeting you!...kingarthur
I saw them about 10 years ago in Melbourne, OZ. I was in the punk scene the right though the 80s and still go to see lots of gigs of all sorts of different stuff. Anyway we went to see the Sonics not sure what to expect, as we're thinking these guys are getting on a bit. Well it was one of the best gigs weve ever seen. They rock hard. Hang your ageism at the door and be prepared for a lesson in garage rock .
This combination of special guests, original members and (comparatively) youthful replacements totally rock the joint at Easy Street Records. If watching/listening to these Sonics fails to raise your blood pressure or get you fired up, see your Doctor (or maybe undertaker) immediately---'cause there's something terribly wrong with you. This is what actual Rock And Roll played with passion by a bunch of sweaty guys who don't give a damn about the year on their birth certificates is all about. If just the audio/video of this event rocks this hard, imagine what it was like to be in the room!
I hope the audience fully appreciates how bloody lucky they are to be there with these guys playing their asses off!
Imagine a show featuring original garage rock bands like The Sonics and The Kinks as well as the new age garage bands like Oh Sees, Ty Segall and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. What a show that would be!
Is it normal that this video made me cry? Jesus, the power of rock is a mighty thing.

Holeee Shit! I'm 59 and I just found The Sonics thanks to a used record store in Salem, MA. Good God.
It is May 28, 2024. A gammer budy and good friend told me to check out The Sonics. So i did. I have a music studio with 1200 cd's. Not alot, but I bought my first album at 13, Badfinger Straight Up. It was 1972. At 1, I bought my first stereo system. Wasn't the greatest, but good quality for what i payed. I never hear of this band, though I do recognize a couple of songs. I did it, totally. These guy a burnin' it awesome. A new group to check out, and I'm diggin it.
My God! I'd dare any band to try & follow this performance up today!!!
I am thankful to have seen & heard the sonics live at least 3 times, once in 65 & twice in 66. They opened the show at Green Lake AQA THEATRE with you got your head on backwards & the guy on harmonica playing down on one knee. They were GREAT !
I've watched this on repeat all day long. Tomorrow, it shall happen again.

I keep coming back to it. I kick myself for missing them at the Neptune theater in Seattle about a year ago. Who knows when they will be back around again.
UnFREAKINGbeleivable. Early 2000s our lead singer Nick Curran sounded like both Sonics' singers. *Thank you* *Sonics* and KEXP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ~ Love from the 1st. Portland; Portland Maine ~ ...wow...
This is el primo example of how incredibly important it is to have a kick ass drummer. The songs and singing is great, but if the drummer isn't on THAT level, it would never work. Rock and roll has always always been a drummers medium
@HungryH1951
5 жыл бұрын
It all ties in. Great drummer, a guitar player that knows how to rock, singer who belts it out, all of it. A combination of which no one part can be left out. Put them all together and you got a rock n roll band that kicks ass.

@@UberLummox The heavy emphasis on the drums, particularly the hard pounding bass drum, were (are) a key part of the Sonics sound. But all of their instruments hit it hard. The first time I heard the Sonics version of Louie Louie back in about 1966 I was blown away. Much harder edge and completely different sound than the Kingsmen or PR&R. I was really proud that the Sonics were a NW band.

Tacoma is right although in the 60's The Sonics played plenty of gigs in Seattle and all over the state of WA and Oregon. Tacoma had something about it that brought out the best in NW rock musicians. Rockin Robin Roberts and also the Wailers (had to change their name to The Fabulous Wailers due to competing bands with similar name) were from Tacoma. Rockin Robin recorded Louis Louis with the Wailers and I think it is the best version out there. Tacoma was the $hit when it came to NW rock n roll.

Oh how I remember them! I was friends with Jerry Roslie and Bob Bennett back then. Saw them all the time playing all the dance venues and community halls all over the Northwest WA ...they were kick ass then, no other band sounded like them. When this was filmed 2015 they could still lay it down although Jerry could not scream like he could back in 63, 64, 65 got to give him his due cuz he was 71 when this was filmed.
All the ho hum artists in the rock and roll HOF -- and then there's these guys!!!!! Sonics for HOF!!
What a gig... If these guys can rock at that age, I can rock too. If these guys can rock at that level, I still have many years to come banging my head while I scream "Have Love, Will Travel" or "Psycho". The Sonics are definitely one of the greatest bands ever. I love this concert.

I just found this and I'm floored. Finding pure gold concerts every now and then on YT is like fishing and catching a prize and this concert qualifies. Being 62 and growing up with some truly fantastic rock music I thought it was close to being done at this late date. The Sonics here have turned all that up-side down. This is exactly what rock and roll is about and should sound like at it's most primal inner-core. That this amazing example exists should be like a siren's call to the Youth of America: get back to the heart and soul of reall rock and roll. It doesn't get better than this.
The greatest Rock and Roll band of all time.

F**cking AWESOME ! This proves you're NEVER too old to ROCK !!!
The sonics are so ridiculously underrated. They inspired so many and dont get there due.
That was Amazin! Gerry's vocals.Got to be one of the best of all times!!! And d'you know what's good. It's like the 70's thing where the songs and sounds came first and the names of the bands or musicians passed by but the songs were large. What a sound to come out of those guys!
You're never to old to be amazing.
This is Awesome!!!! Still sound like back in the day. Full of youthfull energy.
I love how the guitar player plays the same guitar every song. Some guitar players use 7 or 8 (or more) different guitars during a concert. Is that really Necessary? Evidently not when your playing kick ass rock n roll. AC/DC was just like the Sonics using same guitars for the whole concert.
I seriously can't get enough of these guys. Plus they make a kick-ass sountrack for me to run to.
These guys never stopped rocking!
