Yeah, I’ve always found that fact funny how Sonic Team kept getting $30 parking tickets and decided Sonic and Tails could destroy the 3-wheeled police vehicles in their city levels. 11:40 The concept art does actually feature a coffin, it's just incorporated into the train's body and doesn't stand out very much. I think it was a good call to switch the passenger car out for the coffin, gives a better impression of what this train is all about.

I love all these sketches and concept art it really shows the team's passion behind it, if a remake was true to happen i wish they could expand the levels with the art Imagine Route 101 starting around a mountain and ending by the middle of the sea or Route 280 having a city in the middle, adding a Golden Gate bridge section to City Escape and being able to grind on the half pipe Here's a little theory/thought i have Angel Island is in the game, maybe the entire desert area is Sandopolis, i mean in 3&K shows that Eggman didn't build the pyramid, he took it over and the ghosts aren't happy about that, since Knuckles broke the Master Emerald it explains why GUN could send their units there since it's on the ocean again Pumpkin Hill, Wild Canyon, Dry Lagoon and Aquatic Mine can be new zones; Even in 3&K there was Azure Lake Zone showing that we didn't get to explore the whole island, also Dry Lagoon's skybox reminds me a lot of Marble Garden And i always like to think that the other city in the map on the left of Aquatic Mine is Station Square Also i know it only says "Green Hill" but that also implies that is South Island Mini theorys i have thought while playing

@@Eldarin I had seen with your video giving thanks you were going to be looking into the music as well from the games. I'm not sure if you knew with the original Japanese lyrics for Believe In Myself, there are slight variations in the three choruses? This it according to Deepl so the translation maybe a little rough chorus 1 I want to fly higher, I want to fly even higher I'm sure I'll reach a point where I can see everything Someone's waiting for me, waiting for me to come flying So I want to fly higher and higher I just have to keep going Everything's a new challenge for me But it's all in my mind I've got to believe in my own strength I'm gonna step out on my own chorus 2 I want to fly higher, I want to go as far as I can go. I'm sure I'll reach a point where I can see everything. Someone is waiting for me, I know they are. I want to believe that and fly higher I just have to keep going... Everything's a new challenge for me But it's all in my mind I'm going to believe in my own strength I'm gonna take the first step forward chorus 3 I want to fly higher, just like myself. I know I'll make it to where I can see everything Somebody's waiting for me. It's got to be me. I want to believe that, and I want to fly higher. I just have to keep going. Everything's a new challenge for me But there's something that only you can do I'm going to do my best and believe in my own strength. I'm going to take the first step forward I got that from the Japanese Adventure website. It also gave other tidbits on the songs, like did you know the ending noise on Open Your Heart was achieved by Jun Senoue using an electric drill on his guitar? I think he must have borrowed the idea from Paul Gilbert. I'll link it in another comment because when I was trying to post it before I don't think the comment was going through. Here's the original Japanese lyrics for the choruses of Believe In Myself as well btw

@@Eldarin no problem dude, and as for when I first posted about it I was really annoyed about it, as I spent a while typing it out and then when I tried adding an additional bit it was saying about errors, and then as I refreshed the page it was gone. So I tried again, and once again it was gone so I was all, "screw it, I tried..." XD but with this video I figured I'd at least try one more time, and try and keep the extra bits you need out of the link to see if that would do the trick. Also when putting Believe In Myself original Japanese lyrics through deepl, there's abit at the end thats abit... you'll see for yourself ^^" いつも一人でいる時に空想していること... 強くなりたい 信頼されたい いつも一人でいる時に夢見ていること... カッコよくなりたい 憧れの彼みたいに Things I always fantasize about when I'm alone... I want to be strong. I want to be trusted. What I always dream about when I'm alone... I want to be cool. Like the man of my dreams While I am quite sure Jun did not mean it THAT way, but with that line I can't help but think of this Sonic pirate AU I saw on twitter, by deiz2020, and Sonic and Amy were wandering through some crystal cave and it also had the added write up about someone had been appearing in Amy's dreams trying to warn her off about something, so when she and Sonic find him. "That's him!" Says Amy pointing, to the figure in the distance. "The man of my dreams!" To which Sonic replies, while rubbing the back of his head "Did you really need to say it like that?" But anyway hopefully you'll find some useful information for the videos :)

Also, all of these places you informed us of that gave inspiration to all of these concepts, thanks for mentioning them. It's important for artists to keep looking inspiration everywhere to create such unique and interesting fantasy worlds.

I apologize about this not popping up earlier, it seems KZread has been bugging out recently with alot of glitches recently so hopefully they fix them. I truly hope this next Sonic game is exactly what you are speaking of, a game that the team is devoted and passionate about without the rush of time restraints. Concept art is usually so imaginative and awesome and it’s very cool that a lot of it was carried over. I have to be totally honest, I have been playing this game since 2001 and never gave a second thought about the missing parts of the bridges in Radical Highway... There's something about the skybox of night San Francisco in Radical Highway and Mission Street that really gives me a nostalgic feel. I've liked night city scape images because of it. The music of Mission Street always plays in my head when I'm on a bridge in New York, watching the city at night as the lights of the buildings illuminate the sky and reflects off the river. I just wish the city glowed a red/purple/green accent like they do in the skyboxes.

Hello eldarin I have finally gotten around to commenting on this video I watched a while ago. I enjoyed it very much along with the other video on the music development of Sonic Adventure. I'm not as fanatical about these games as I am about the classic games so I actually learned a lot from you this time around as opposed to you learning from me with my trivia comments (as you have told me you have). That is not to say I don't like both Adventure games because I do. Though I always replay them mostly for the Sonic stages in both (including Shadow's) because they are so fun for me. I kind of wish this gameplay style would return someday. With proper physics implemented like the classics it would probably be so much better, absolutely perfect even. I'm sidetracking myself so I'll get back on topic with this video. Radical Highway and City Escape were the more obvious ones to be based on San Francisco for me with the Golden Gate Bridge and steep hills respectively. It was genius to make Sonic go through a level that was inspired by a place like it. San Francisco would even serve as the basis for a part of the 2020 Sonic movie. What a perfect match for a character who already rolls down slopes. I think it was really funny that Sonic Team decided to add in the ability to destroy certain smaller cars based off of the real life vehicles that would give them parking tickets as a way to vent off at them. It was done in good fun but still very humorous all around. By the way the small cars are apparently found on the Mission Street level as it was pointed out in the Sonic Adventure 2 video by the _Did You Know Gaming_ channel. You can see it in your own video at 7:33 It's alright you may have not known as the interview itself that you used didn't specifically show where they were. With the way Kazuyuki Hoshino worded it as just "one of the stages" and that Sonic attacks them it's clear they may have not remembered the exact details which is understandable because the interview was done as a bonus video for the HD re-release of Adventure 2 in 2012, over a decade removed from the original release. What I didn't know was practically everything else. The fact that both Routes and Mission Street were named after actual places in the SF area was something I never would have made a connection to. I wasn't aware the team even went to Yosemite Park for more real life inspiration either. What better place to get ideas from nature than a national park. White Jungle and Green Forest are some of my favorite levels aesthetic wise but I would not have put two and two together with the sequoia and redwood tree forests from California. I mean I knew those types of trees existed but I didn't really put much thought into them or where they were particularly located. I love how they implemented the idea to walk through giant trees from these forests too. 15:09 No Way!!! Where did you find that photo? It looks so legitimate, it must be really rare. I didn't know they actually went to outer space for more inspiration 😱 Talk about dedication. Perhaps that's where they got the idea to destroy the moon in the story. Did SEGA finance the trip? Is that the real reason why they went bankrupt? Okay with all those jokes out of my system I have to say that the whole topic of the Bernal sphere space colony was very fascinating. I didn't know about it before this video. It is odd that a mistranslation/misinterpretation slipped through the English script that caused it to be called something else though. Tails actually references something else from real life in Sonic Riders. He brings up something called the Kutta-Joukowski theorem on how the extreme gear works. As a kid I thought it was something made up but it turned out to be real so it really adds to Tails' character with his intelligence. Prison Island and Alcatraz seemed to be the more obvious in hindsight. By the way, what are you referencing at 8:57? I’m rather curious about it but if you don't want to explain I understand. At the very least I know about DirecTV satellite since I had it when I was a kid. Also, did you know that there was a Sonic & Knuckles competition aired on MTV called "Rock the Rock" that actually took place in Alcatraz. I think it's a rather peculiar place to host a video game competition in. 17:18 That’s definitely grounds for bragging rights. Getting all 180 emblems is no easy task, I’m impressed. I do like how this rendition of Green Hill is literally just a 3D layout version of the original Act 1. It must have been exciting for fans to see Green Hill return in 3D back in 2001, especially as a reward. Nowadays that kind of specialty has worn off as they just keep reusing Green Hill over and over again. I don’t know about you but I’m honestly tired of seeing it myself. They should have Emerald Hill come back for once just for variety. Green Hill showing up out of nowhere on the map also actually has an in-universe explanation too since South Island is said to never be set in one place and is constantly drifting across the ocean according to the Japanese manual of Sonic 1. I have to commend the developers for using real life locations. I think they were clearly passionate during this era. It was to the point that they were willing to go on a real life expedition to South America for Sonic Adventure. They truly went on adventures of their own. I read that the team even used photos they took as textures for Adventure. I'm aware this is yet another long comment but these thoughts have been simmering in my head for over a month now. Excellent job with this video it makes me see Adventure 2 in a different light. P.S. I just want you to know that I did read the message you sent me over on Sonic Retro from April and I made a reply to it but I’m not sure if you read it. I have since started a new conversation in regards to your Sonic 3 video which contains more trivia. I have decided to preemptively leave it over there just in case it won’t show up on the comment section of that video so please check it out whenever you have the time.

Heyy! Long time no see! I totally understand where you are coming from, as tbh I am the same way with the classics..I love them and can appreciate them 100% but my bread n butter is with the 3D games (probably because I grew up with them). Im super happy to hear you enjoyed the two videos and learned some new things! I agree with you about the sonic movie, hopefully, for the sonic movie 2 we get a scene of him snowboarding down streets..I also agree about the aesthetics of Green Forest and White Jungle, I love how huge the trees are in those stages and what I always appreciated about SA1 and 2 was how the stages kept the real life inspirations but gave them the absolutely crazy proportions...anyways, the whole bernouli thing was so weird yet interesting to me and the more I looked I was like huh I could totally see how they took inspiration from that. I haven't played the Riders games but Im certainly going to need to check those out. As for 8:57, I just found that line funny as it really was a timecapsule of when it came out "I found it on satlittle TV" it always gave me a chuckle haha. Also thank you for the compliment on the emblems, I honestly highly recommend going for the A rank on the first mission for each stage as I feel the stages really flourish when going for those. I never got the 180 emblems till this year and there is nothing better than SA1 and 2's 100% completion of metal sonic and Green Hill its just amazing! I would really like to see Sonic Team (if they're going to go for nostalgia pandering) Id love to see an actual rendition of Angel Island zone in 3D or Emerald Hill like you said. These games much like the 2D games were filled with so much passion, and I apologize ive been off of sonicretro recently so Ill have to check that out. Thanks for reaching out to me on there! Also Thanks for watching and great hearing from you my friend...hope you are doing well :)) (also thanks for the heads up on mission street as I never put 2 and 2 together on that so thanks, makes sense :DD)

@@Eldarin I’m a 2000’s kid but I didn’t grow up playing any of the 3D games aside from Sonic Heroes and even then I never completed it because foolish little me could never pass Rail Canyon with any of the teams so I ended up just selling the game off to Gamestop. I was pulled more into the classic games after watching Cybershell’s LP’s of them and deciding to play them myself. When I mentioned I wanted the Adventure gameplay style to return in my original post I forgot to bring up the beta version of Windy Valley. That version is more akin to the classics with its sprawling level design. Some modders managed to restore it since it was found in the Autodemo build. Here’s a video of how it looks like in case you haven’t seen it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZY2ctZanmNaelrA.html If a Sonic game had levels that were all just like it then I would definitely buy it. I think it would be fun to watch Sonic snowboarding down streets in the movie sequel. Apparently there is a Sonic Adventure 2 reference already found in a set photo that contains a helicopter with the markings “SA-2” which can be an abbreviated version of what the pilots in the game call the helicopter there in, Sigma-Alpha 2. The Adventure games stories can already be great material for movies and the Echidna tribe was already shown in the first movie so I’m curious to see what the sequel will be about. Thanks for answering in regards to what 8:57 was about too. I just went and watched the hero story cutscenes of Adventure 2 and just realized that was the line Tails was saying without the distortion effect you added. I haven’t played Adventure 2 in such a long time so I thought you were making a reference to something else. I suppose it is a time capsule of the period it was released in as cable and satellite TV subscription rates are dropping in favor of internet streaming services. As for the Riders games, I only played the first one but it was pretty fun. Even my siblings who aren’t Sonic fans enjoyed the game as well. I love the opening animation of the game especially with the art style they gave to the characters. If you're curious where Tails mentions that Kutta-Joukowski theorem then it’s in the heroes story mode. It’s the cutscene in the Splash Canyon stage: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nnh2xdKqm5SXlrQ.html It’s okay if you haven’t been on Sonic Retro lately either. It’s not like you have to be there all the time. Nowadays there’s too much social media to manage accounts for but that doesn’t mean I think Retro is considered a social media website, I'm just saying in general there’s a lot of options. Admittedly, conversations on Retro are getting less engaging for myself as we are still in a “drought” for games and there hasn’t been as much topics on stuff like prototype releases or major newly found information to tide me over lately. Hopefully, this “drought” will be over either in this year or the next but will just have to wait and see. Anyways, I’m doing fine and I hope you're doing well too. I’m glad to hear that I helped point out the cars on Mission Street for you. :)

I knew the city stages were influenced by San Francisco, but it was cool to see a lot of the game was also inspired by local scenery!

I visited San Francisco last Summer and it was just as beautiful as in SA2! As long as you ignored all the Trash and Homeless People on the streets…

I wonder how much different the game's story would have been if the E10 rating had been introduced at that point. Nishiyama's concept art looks a lot more grimy and dark than the final game, and while that may have just been his art style, SonicTeam later toned down Shadow the Hedgehog to get the new E10 rating so we know they were designing around US ratings around that time, and SA2 IS a game where one of the main events is a teenage girl being shot to death. So... Also unrelated, SA2 was SUPPOSED to release in late 2000 or early 2001, but was delayed. The US Official Dreamcast Magazine states in an issue that they were going to do an in-depth write-up on development in the next issue, but it didn't happen. When asked about it in a letter in one of the last few issues, the team replied that SEGA initially had an earlier release planned, and changed it between issues of the magazine. This initial release date likely would have been the one they went with if they just had Sonic, Knuckles, and Eggman's stories and gameplay [as shown in the E3 2000 trailer], and this delay was likely done to retroactively add in Tails, Shadow, and Rouge as playable characters and make their rehashed Eggman, Sonic, and Knuckles stages fit into the story.
