Zack Snyder's Justice League (colloquially referred to as the Snyder Cut) is the 2021 director's cut of the 2017 American superhero film Justice League, the fifth film set within the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) based on the team of the same name appearing in DC Comics publications. It is intended to match director Zack Snyder's original vision for the film, prior to his departure from the production and subsequent studio interference. The film follows Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller), and Superman (Henry Cavill) as they form an alliance to stop the extradimensional New God Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds) and his army of Parademons from conquering Earth for his overlord Darkseid (Ray Porter).

That sounds like a lie to me. He clearly changed some things in the Snyder cut based on the critical response to the Whedon cut. A lot of Aquaman’s dialogue was edited out even though it was present in the original trailer for JL before the Snyder cut came out because he saw people didn’t like it.

Another Fun Fact: Victor Stone/Cyborg was originally described as the "heart of the movie" by Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder, but Joss Whedon controversially cut most, if not all, of Cyborg's storyline for the theatrical version. Victor's plot line is restored in this version.

@@nathank2289 100% agree. It truly gets who Superman is supposed to be. Upon reading the comment section on Superman Explains Why He Faked His Rage by Ciri The Ashen One it reminded me why I loved superheroes in the past and why they are important long before Invincible and The Boys. I remember watching this movie in my home country of Albania dubbed in albanian in 2013. I remember rooting for Superman and feeling sad for him when everyone started siding with The Elite. When he explained that he faked his rage in order to make a point I felt relieved and cheered for him when he convinced the world why he matters. As I grew older I started to understand Manchester Black's motivation and where he comes from, but what he was doing was still wrong. Nowadays we have been so spoiled by deconstructive series like The Boys and Invincible that we have forgotten why we loved superheroes in the first place. The reason why these 2 shows are beloved is because they are a breath of fresh air in a sea of samey superhero movies and TV shows. The MCU, the DCEU and the Arrowverse certainly have made it worse by falling into that pitfall and giving traditional superhero stories a bad name. The reason the DCAU, and all the Marvel cartoons from the past, either from the 90s or the late 2000s as well as EMH(well, most of them) are beloved is because they bring superheroes as well as iconic stories to life. Sure, they are not as high stakes or as violent as the former 2 shows because they are targeted to kids, but that doesn't change the fact that they are timeless and can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of what age. Even the animated movies which are targeted to an older audience (either R-rated or PG-13 rated) get superheroes. It was long before people complained about plot armor in superhero movies and TV shows. The one show that is the closest to getting superheroes is My Hero Academia, a shounen anime but even that is facing criticism lately as well. There is nothing wrong with deconstruction but people should never forget why superheroes matter and why they should always be depicted as good people.

He then increases the money in her account when she only had $11 left for herself & her children. Even his voice is more intimidating and distorted than his voice in Justice League (2017). According to Weta Digital's Simeon Duncombe and Anders Langlands, as the film's Animation Supervisor and Visual Effects Supervisor, they were essentially going back to Snyder's original vision with the Snyder Cut, revisiting all elements that were planned beforehand; thus, restoring the original vision rather than having to create something new. Steppenwolf's Snyder Cut look was even clearly hinted in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016).

WB is a joke of a company. like him or hate him, not allowing Zack to be the central vision of the DCEU, DC's Kevin Feige, is why its such a huge mess. but considering this is the company that could have given us a justice league film as far back as the 90's, and who screwed up the absolutely easiest paycheck in comic book film history by not allowing the death of superman to be made (which would have been Christopher Reeves' superman, and given the timing could possibly have prevented the accident that paralyzed him), its not surprising how badly this all turned out.

@@RaptorNX01 you, sir/ma’am are 1,000% RIGHT. Even if DC was given a DARK vision, at least it would not have been silly corny jokes like MCU … they had a vision and they show themselves in their right temple. WB deserves to burn in hell for many reasons. Destroying Snyder’s vision is 1 of those reasons. If allowed to be released in theaters (maybe 3 hours instead of 4 as a necessary compromise), Snyder’s JUSTICE LEAGUE would have been $1.5 to $2 BILLION easy.

One of my favorite moments in this film is hearing Batman saying "Faith, Alfred! Faith!". He believes again and it's so satisfying.

More things to add about this version of the movie: - This movie was leaked early on HBO Max when you play the recent Tom and Jerry movie. - Ray Fisher is blacklisted from Hollywood for investigating and telling the truth about what happened on the set of Whedon cut. This went from talking to Geoff Johns, Whedon, and several executives who invited him over for dinner just to have him say "Booyah" in the movie. - Gal Gadot was put in a room with Whedon and humiliated her for not filming a scene of Flash falling on top of her. Several shots of her were done by a body double. She was even called Natasha from Joss Whedon. - Ray Porter lost his voice when he voiced Darkseid back in 2017. - Jeremy Irons called Whedon's rewrites "fucking shit" and wrote his own dialogue instead. - Chris Terrio called his lawyers to get his name removed from the Whedon Cut. Imagine how bad your rewrites are if the guy who co-wrote "Somehow Palpatine returned" wants his name out of the movie. - Tom Holkenborg created tracks and themes for the movie when Snyder was still on board. When he was replaced by Danny Elfman for the music, Tom's early work was put in different movies like Tomb Raider, Alita, etc. - Snyder wasn't aware of how much of his scenes were cut out, so he posted his storyboards and screenshots (with theatrical cut of Steppenwolf) on Vero, which surprised fans with how different the movie was. That's also how he found out about Whedon's additions when his fans were commenting on his posts since Deborah Snyder and Christopher Nolan told him not to watch the movie. - Flash's time travel was cut out because Warner Brothers didn't understand it. Keep in mind that this was the same studio that wondered why Superman couldn't fly back to Krypton at the end of Man of Steel. - Whedon was brought on board to add "hope and optimism" to the movie, despite the Snyder Cut being the most hopeful movie Zack has ever done. Warner Brothers released a false statement that Snyder chose Whedon to take over the production of Justice League. - When Whedon's cut was about to be released, Geoff Johns tweeted to Superman fans to revise their lists for best Superman moments in DCEU. It wasn't revised until the Snyder Cut was released. - John Stewart's Green Lantern was meant to appear at the end. The actor was cast and filmed, but WB opted to use the Martian Manhunter ending instead. - WB executives were not happy on Snyder using the black suit, so he convinced them to use the brighter version of the red and blue suit that he can secretly change it to black in post-production. This isn't the first time Zack did something like this behind WB's back: they wanted to remove the opening titles of Watchmen from the script, so Zack secretly filmed the opening credits scenes himself without WB's supervision. Here's the big one: - When Zack Snyder was on board for the new Superman movie, he was planning to do a trilogy of Superman movies. However, after the success of MoS and the high popularity of MCU, Warner Brothers wanted Zack Snyder to drop his plans for Superman trilogy and instead do the DCEU entirely. As a result, Snyder had an entire blueprint laid out for his DC universe when working with David Ayer, Patty Jenkins, James Wan, Ben Affleck and Rick Fujiyama. Aquaman and Wonder Woman are all the same. Suicide Squad was changed from David Ayer's original cut to the theatrical mess. Affleck's Batman would've had Batman fighting Deathstroke (for killing Jericho after losing Dick Grayson) in Arkham Asylum with Batgirl helping Bruce, and taking inspiration from David Fincher's The Game. The plot also involved Deathstroke framing Batman and ruining Wayne Enterprises, which is why Lex reveals his identity to Slade at the end. John Cleese hinted at playing William Wintergreen, Deathstroke's butler. The Flash movie would've had Barry and Iris investigate his dad's innocence while fighting Captain Cold and encountering Jay Garrick. It would've been revealed that corrupt police officers killed Barry's mom, not Reverse Flash. Justice League 2 would've had Legion of Doom (Lex Luthor, Dr Poison, Captain Cold, Ocean Master, Black Manta) fighting Justice League while Batman and Lois investigate the Anti-Life Equation. Riddler figures out the universe's greatest riddle and kills himself. The movie ends with Darkseid killing Lois and starting the Knightmare sequence. Clark succumbs to the Anti-Life Equation and becomes Darkseid's slave. Justice League 3 would take place 5 years after JL2 with the remaining heroes and villains joining together to save the world. They build the Cosmic Treadmill to help Flash get to the moment before Darkseid kills Lois since the last time Flash went in time, he was "too soon". Batman would tell Flash to save Lois properly but there would be a twist: Lois' child belongs to Bruce, not Clark. (In early drafts, both of them had a connection during Clark's death and I don't think Lois and Bruce are a good combo. There was more chemistry between Bruce and Diana thanks to BvS and Snyder Cut, so Lois' child is still Clark's.) Because of the revelation, Bruce sacrifices himself and saves Lois, preventing Clark from becoming evil. After that, an entire world becomes the Justice League with heroes, Suicide Squad, Amazonians, Atlanteans, and Green Lantern Corps all working together to stop Darkseid and his invasion, once and for all. (There is a conspiracy theory that Joss Whedon looked at those plans and gave them to Feige for Infinity War and Endgame. Down to time travel, 5 years later, portals moment, the main character dying and a cliffhanger.) In the end, Diana would've become the Queen of Amazon after her mother's death, Arthur would've become the ruler of the 7 seas, Superman would get back his red and blue suit, Flash would get his dad back from jail, Cyborg would get his human form whilst having his powers and Lois' child would become the new Batman in the future. The illustrations and story beats for both movies were put in an exhibition promoting The Snyder Cut. The final movie in the "Snyderverse" would've been Flashpoint as Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan weren't cast for no reason in BvS. They were going to be saved for the future as Batman and Joker. Flashpoint movie would've revealed that Reverse Flash was responsible for almost every single moment ever happening in the DC universe that led to this point and wanting to ruin Barry Allen's life, meaning Barry's life was pretty much a lie. The movie would end as a reboot with Snyder leaving and letting other filmmakers do their own DC movies. Some of Zack's ideas were implemented in the later DC movies: The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Zack Snyder doesn't really have a bad reputation. He's just kind of a hack who's all style and no substance. Or a BRILLIANT AMAZING FILMMAKER. Depending on whether the person you ask is part of his cult-y fanbase or not. Whedon, on the other hand, increasingly does have a bad reputation, for reasons largely unrelated to his output. So on the one hand, you have the increasingly unpopular Whedon Frankensteining together a movie in an increasingly unpopular franchise started by someone else who has a wildly different vibe, compared to the Snyder Cut, which was Snyder getting to do his thing, his way, and cram it as full of fan service as he possibly could in the hopes that it would result in him getting to make more movies. The Snyder cult loved it, but otherwise I think the reaction was generally "It's not bad. Better than the other one. Kinda long, though." Which is not the reaction WB was hoping for, which is why there's no more DCEU.

Snyder has a pretty toxic fanbase, but the guy himself seems pretty benign, he is just a debatably mediocre director who just keeps getting TONS of money to make not very good movies. Whedon on the other hand was a legitimate geek god for a long time, but has proven himself to be a real problematic asshole over the past few years, his mess of a “Justice League” movie was just a part of his long fall from grace. Snyder didn’t exactly have a high bar to clear with his cut, and he just barely made it over.

I lay the blame solely at the feet of the internet tbh. Joss Whedon has a certain style he brings to every project. So they knew exactly what they were doing, and what film they would get, when they brought him on. and he was absolutely the answer to the online trolls that have been attacking Zack and his films for years. his style directly addresses all the stuff the online hate brigade has complained about ever since MoS. The muted color pallet, the serious tones, etc. What we got was exactly what the trolls wanted. overly jokey (even more then his usual stuff) and colors so bright it feels over-saturated and unnatural. so take an out of touch, knee jerk reaction to a vocal minority, and combine it with the challenges you mentioned, and you get josstice league.
