@@jimnewcombe7584 I get that point … and whilst 59 is young it is not exceptionally young. The Smiths debut album was released in 1984 - 38 years ago !! I get the (obvious) point you’re making. I think it is a bad point.

Andy was a true gentleman, he supported my old band about 15 years ago when we had no money to record, he saw something in us and wanted to help, he borrowed us his personal 8 track portable recording studio and we recorded our first demos on it, i we accidentally erased what we thought was the demo song that came as standard on the machine and when he told us that was a track that himself, Peter hook and mani we’re working on for his new band Freebase we were mortified, you know what he said? He just laughed, called us nobs and said “Don’t stress, I think hooky’s got a backup on his laptop, it’s okay” Anyone else would have gone apeshit , not Andy. I wish you a safe journey to wherever you are going to next brother, it was my pleasure to meet you and consider you a friend. R.I.P x

Thank you for being the only news reporters to not mention that he had a struggle with a drug addiction in the 80's but he beat it and continued to make music and record two more Smiths albums and collaborate with many other musicians. I've watched about twenty videos and the most they say his he died from pancreatic cancer, oh and he suffered from addiction. Those memories for Andy were painful and although he's been open about it, he didn't like to relive those memories and still felt the shame from having developed an addiction even though he beat it - a very long time ago! I wonder how he'd feel knowing this is being mentioned as part of his legacy?
