Agree 100%, Larry. I feel very fortunate to have seen them 'live' at the Coach House in Ca. back in 2013. Great concert. One of the things I like about their sound is that it's uniquely & distinctively 60's & '80s. Another good thing about them was that they were th last real rock band in the '80s after New Wave ended and rap/terrible corporate crap we have now took over permanently.

About a dozen years ago, Pat DiNizio sat in front of me on a flight to El Paso, where the band was playing an outdoor festival. He had two seats, one for him and the other his guitar. He looked out the window as we landed, at the West Texas landscape, and said "That doesn't look like New Jersey." I left him alone and never said hello, and I regret it now. A couple years later I saw the band at BB King's in Manhattan. Their greatest hits CD is always in my car.

You're correct, William Tell. I was in the radio business in the 80's and 90's, and I've played a few Smithereens records hot off the press. The Smithereens' problem was always that they came onto the music scene at a time when musical sub-genres first began to have real cultural meaning, and therefore real commercial meaning. The Smithereens didn't fit easily into any traditional radio format of the period. It's not punk, it's not new wave, it's not pop, it's not dinosaur rock, it's not grunge. The thing is, Smithereens is just straight-ahead, high-energy, melodic rock music created when "Rock," as a category and a format, was dying. No music director would put them any higher than light rotation, because they didn't fit the format cohesively enough - no matter what the format was.

What a band. 💟
They had a distinct sound like no other band.
The Smithereens!!! Out standing in their field!
Best American pop band ever!
The vocals are amazing as in all of the Smithereens songs. The music is awesome but the vocals carry them.
I want that fringed jacket. Next time I'm over Jim's house I might steal it. :)
*FUKIN’ 💯 LIT 🔥*
Pure rock band.
Keep on a Rockin' Me Baby....
Had no idea they made a video for this song. Damn these boys were good.
I'd like to christen these guys as 'The American Fab 4' . They deserve it, and were influenced by the 'other' Fab 4, and it shows!
How nice is the sound of that Rickenbacker that Jim Babjak plays? This is an awesome video. I had never seen this.
COOL!
grate job on your channel, love those timmereens ,i mean smithereens, lol
Smithereens were maybe just victims of bad timing? They should have been MUCH bigger.

MARK LOPEZ I once heard a story from Dave Grohl about one time when they were on tour, Kurt took Dave's boombox, threw out his Metal tape and played a Smithereens mixtape all night.

Nick Danger that's just awful. Because they had so many great songs and still do. I still cannot fathom why they did not get more airplay on the radio, sometimes we have to break the rules

I would not doubt that one second because Kurt was highly influenced by the smithereens music and by Pats songwriting. As stated by pat him self in an interview. I've been listening nonstop to smithereens interviews and along with Pat. You could say I'm on a smithereens binge. Well, they are both in rock heaven now

@@gmar7836 All Music pretty much blames Nirvana and the timing of Nevermind for killing the band's chance at being relevant.
Never seen this before
1:24 Pat DiNizio is a little bit like Eddie Rivera of Extreme Ghostbusters. Eddie Rivera himself looks like a post-punk bassist without a beard of course with a mallet hairstyle
