Love How You Completely Set The Tone With That Funny As Hell Intro😂 I Haven't Seen The Remake So My Pick Has To Go To The Original Slumber Party Massacre. But I Feel Like Even If I've Seen The Remake Too, I Most Likely Would've Chosen Both Movies Because Of My Common Love & Taste For Seeing A Slightly Different Take On Remakes Just As Equally As I Would Praise Any Original Horror Movie That Came First.

I never knew Slumber Party Massacre by directed by a woman. The only women horror directors I know of are Mary Lambert (Pet Semetary) and Jennifer Kent (The Babadook). Damn! I gotta get it together! Lol. I can see Amy Holden Jones and her story as being really inspirational for future directors. Working with Scorsese and Roger Corman is just wow! Thanks for the video, Kylie! 🍻

I officiated my nephews wedding in Vermont in October of last year. My mom, girlfriend and I stayed at a hotel watching Golden Girls and Fresh Prince, but during the night after the wedding the 2021 remake was on the TV. I too loved the subversion of the story line in the remake. It was probably close to two in the morning when the male shower scene came on and I was the only one awake to witness it, until my mom got up to use the rest room. The entire time I was thinking, "wow, how embarrassing that this be the scene my mom catches me watching. " She got back into bed without saying anything about the scene. The next morning I could not help myself but give a synopsis of the original in comparison with the remake and how much I thought the remake had such a great take. I talked about the male shower scene and my mom brought up how she saw the scene and was thinking " what the hell is he watching". It just cracks me up, the thought of my mom seeing that scene and not saying anything about it at the time. I have to thank you for your channel, I lost both of my parents around this time last year. Actually my mom passed away December 5 2021 and channels like yours discussing horror films has been a huge help with getting through this tough time. Thank you.

I've never cared for the "your turn" justification, as I feel it sends a mixed message and perpetuates a harmful cycle. We can look back on these exploitative or misogynist tropes and recognize the harm they can cause, so rejecting them and not participating in that toxicity not only serves to make us better storytellers but better people. At least, that's how I feel about it. I don't know, saying "it's your turn to be poorly represented" is just an immature excuse to enact admittedly bad behavior. Thankfully, this video seems to showcase what is missed by the men who are critical of the film in this way. It's clear to me that: 1) The movie isn't mean-spirited or malicious in its representation of men, as it's obviously played for laughs. 2) The men in these roles are in on the joke, which gives them more power, agency and freedom not often afforded to women in these cases, if ever. Thank you for highlighting this movie. It appears to succeed where I think Black Christmas (2019) failed.

well well you have really intrigued me to give the remake another chance ! Super fun video , I really enjoy the original . OMG when you mentioned the director had said that she wanted to be a filmmaker because she didn’t see enough representation. Sisssssss same here lmaooo we need more latin and queer representation in h0rror. “ I have some news for you “ lmaooooo why are some so scared to admit it and hide behind these kind of comments . Loveeeee this video ! I’m absolutely so excited to watch the remake !!!!

Nice work. Rarely covered piece. Like the analysis, too much to cover here. However, to try and be of use, all three films stream on Shudder, and I sat through them on a lazy weekend. Not that you need me to say what’s up, but bang up job miss. An I think you’re pretty badass.

So i am a big fan of the original, but i watched the remake last night and i just have to say, i loooooved it! I completely agree with everything you said and i think it's about time we see us men being exploited more and specifically in horror movies. There is a super indie movie that is called Alpha Beta Zatan that does that, however that one only features men, but they get naked/close to naked during most of the runtime. I would've loved to direct movies myself and if i ever got the chance i would pretty much build my career around this, kind of like David DeCoteau.

It's a tie for me. But the remake is definitely how you do a remake. Take the essence of what made the original great and throw in some twists to modernize it. Also am I the only one that thinks it was heavily inspired by Halloween 2018? I think it did a way better job than the new TCM movie.
