The Sims 2 Holiday Edition is HIGHLY Confusing

Ойындар

A retrospective look back at what I consider to be the MOST confusing Sims release: The Sims 2 Holiday Edition. All of 'em! There were a good half dozen or so individual releases of this in 2005 and 2006, so let's get to the bottom of all this Christmas simming silliness.

Who would have thought that having a few wars, letting rich billionaires milk the system dry, allowing overseas billionaires buy up all the vacant houses in every state in America, never teaching kids the value of working for money and not living on handouts, and letting illegal aliens flood into the country at a rate of 10,000 a day could go so wrong?

Can't speak for anyone else, but I would honestly much prefer that LGR do reviews of old TS1 and 2 expansions/stuff packs or even re-review TS3 content than yet another TS4 expansion. Even putting aside "is TS4 actually a good game?" and "were the older Sims games better?" arguments, Clint obviously has his heart more in the older games and it shows in how much happier he is here than in TS4 videos, and I think there is some value in going back to the older content with a more retrospective and/or critical eye.

Fun fact: Happy Holiday Stuff was the last Sims related thing done by Maxis Emeryville studio. Sims development moved to The Sims Studio (also known as Maxis Redwood Shores) which works on Sims to these days, while Maxis Emeryville moved to Spore and later the infamous SimCity 2013, after whose "success" the studio was closed down. Just a small trip to the history of The Sims and Maxis 😁

I do respect this pack for including a few Hanukkah and Kwanzaa items. Kind of wish they'd do that these days, but then I've learned to never ask EA for anything because when it comes to the Sims, they'll botch what's offered and what isn't they'll charge you $30 for.

why should they be in? Those are religious items, and EA doesn't want to put in religious items in Sims games.

@@JohnathanWilliamson849 You have a Christmas tree and Christmas celebration in the game as well. I'm aware that it may sound a bit confusing but it's only fair to put other symbols of various holidays. For some people it's "religious", for others it's just "cultural". Plus, the Sims team never said that they won't put "religious items" in the game, that's completely false what you're saying. They said that there won't be any "religion" in game, as in "organized religion". They never said anything about celebrations. They don't work in game in the religious aspect. You sing around the Christmas tree and leave gifts there, Menorah and Kinara functions solely to light the candles. No relations to any deity whatsoever. Look, I'm an atheist but I put various Sims in my games. Some of them are religious (in my mind), others are not. It makes the worlds more realistic in my opinion. Nobody is forcing you to download the free holiday celebration pack (or whatever it's called) or put those items in game. There's no need to be so agitated.

One aspect of the summoned Santa that kept happening to the players I hung around with, was how he'd inevitably move into your sim's bathroom. Just bogart the toilet for an hour at a time, often multiple times per visit, and you can't get him out because of the privacy mechanics that forbid low-relationship sims from walking in on each other. Here's a guy you cannot control, who doesn't live there, whom you just met. Surprise: your Christmas present is having to build another bathroom.

Ah, the Maxis inserts. I remember buying SimCity for the SNES with birthday money at Wal-Mart (a whole $50) and unboxing it in the backseat. My parents wanted to go get groceries before going home (this was back before Super Wal-Marts were a thing, so they had to go to an actual grocery store), and I got them to leave me in the car while they went in. By the light of a parking lot lightpole, I read my way through the hefty SimCity booklet, getting an education in both city planning and development, as well as game mechanics. When I got home and popped the game in, I hit the ground running.
