The Shocking Gestapo Raid In Rome | WW2

Ойын-сауық

JEWISH HISTORY IN ROME | THE GESTAPO IN ROME AND THE STORY OF STUMBLING STONES
In this video I visit Rome to track down the story of the Stumbling Stones and to learn about the German raid on the Rome Ghetto; detaining thousands of people and deporting them to Auschwitz.
I learn about how the people of Rome fought back and helped to shield their Jewish neighbours and how these people are remembered today.

If you go to Rome, don't miss a visit to the synagogue, and enjoy lunch at Nonna Bette in the ghetto behind. It is a beautiful building inside. They have priceless displays of torahs and other religious artifacts salvaged from all over Europe. Also a very moving educational video about the deportations from the ghetto specifically, and a gift shop. I have been there twice. It's all just across the Tiber from Trastevere neighborhood.

Thank you Mary. I know the area well! I went inside the synagogue but didn’t want to film inside. I will definitely check Nonna Bette! It’s such a lovely part of Rome but most people don’t understand what the conditions were like previously. I hope you enjoyed the video

New subscriber here! I don’t know how ANYONE could honestly think that the holocaust never happened. At 44, I was honored to meet Corrie Ten Boom as a young child and her family throughout my teens and the things they shared have forever changed my life. We will never learn from the past if it’s hidden.

What a poignant heartbreaking everyday reminder of the Holocaust and its impact on such a small area. I have never understood the anti-semitic attitude around the world including elected officials.

Thank you for your comment. It really was heartbreaking doing the research and finding those pictures. Standing where something like that happened, and the faces on those being rounded up was so sad. If we don’t tell their stories, we will never learn.

Absolutely heartbreaking, thank you for showing the stumbling stones and the plaques honouring the Jewish people who were murdered for their religion. You have produced the film with poignancy, it's beautifully filmed with the haunting violin from Shindlers List. The Vatican could have hidden the Jewish people. May their souls rest in peace. #NeverAgain. Subscribed.

@@thehistoryexplorer, your heart, and empathy comes through as you narrate the dreadful treatment of the Jewish people. The friend who we stayed with in Rome is Jewish, and her husband is Catholic. With the recent horrific murders of the Israelis, it is reassuring to watch your video as you treat the history of the Jewish people with compassion and care. How wonderful to meet your relatives. Will you make another video of the Jewish people?
