Facial reconstruction prosthetics, eye prosthetics (they use very red threads to emulate the red veins and the iris color job is amazing) should be considered one of the several forms of art, just like cinematography, painting, sculpting, etc. They are just applied into another subject, but they are real pieces of art. The detail, the realistic painting technique, the use of color, they define art.

@Ayethere M8 its curious cause, if u think about it from another perspective, prosthetics basically “give u back” ur lost expressions and allows u to give expressions, or give the ones u never had. Prosthetics also can be individually read according to ur own vision, just like a piece of art, they have different interpretations, from very realistic and accurate, to creepy, uncanny valley like. Just a little thought about it.

He looks amazing ..... What a beautiful work of art this is. So life like.....prosthetics have come so far since the 1900s. I used to be so fascinated in ww1 prosthetics and how a group of artists dedicated themselves to give soldiers an identity again. .....and now look how soft, detailed and quick it can be done, using camera, computers and printers. At 5 years old ( 1974 ) , my hearing aid was rock solid, bulky and so uncomfortable. By 2010, they were soft , moulded better and more flexible. It was the end of pain...no more trying to file it down or cut off annoying bits, So I understand a little of how much relief Shirley must feel now. Thank you Shirkey and the team for making this happen , And setting the path, and leading the way for future prosthetics. This is life changing and gives so much confidence back to patients ...who will wear them with pride 💚💚💚💚💚 Absolutely amazing. 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

We’ve come so far. And it’s funny, 3D printing was just a thing for nerds and sculpture enthusiasts to play with at home, but now we’ll be able to make prosthetics, parts for bridges and machines etc. I could kind of see this be an alternative towards our plastic issue as well. Reusing our plastic to build stuff out of.

love this, but why patent the tech...? why not just make it public domain, lead the way in being pioneering but give the techniques away so mite people can benefit.

why wouldn't they patent it? if they create the technology, they should be able to get rewarded for it. that's why patents exists.

@@berndlauert8179 Competition is one of the best ways to advance a technology. By patenting what should be a humanist venture primarily, they retard the forward momentum of it and make it an exclusive product. I'm sure that's not what they'd want to publish on their website.
