Greatest southern comedian of all time. It’s not even close. Clower would have a literal field day with the stuff we have nowadays.

Still makes me laugh after all these years! 1973, I'm walking back to the AGR house at UT Martin and I hear a roar coming out of an upstairs bedroom. Everybody starts walking faster or trotting when another roar broke out. We all raced upstairs to find a two bunk room packed with guys, no standing room, listening to an LP recording of Jerry Clower for the first time ever. When the first side was done, they flipped it over and listened to the other side. This went on for 2 hours straight! We were all instant fans and I think we are still..

I would have been 9 years old and I bet we had the same vinyl album at home! Our family even picked up on some key things he said, and one of us would blurt one out in a situation calling for a lighter moment! A few favorites were (and ARE) "If I'm lyin' , I'm dyin'!" and "Knock him out, John!" as well as "That thing be lookin too much like folks!" Great memories!

The man was an undeniable genius who truly knew how to deliver when it came to telling a great story and knowing how to make people laugh in this oftentimes plain ol' miserable world and he also had an absolutely dead-on wicked way with his enunciation and inflection of words in that inimitable Mississippi drawl like nobody's business, folks...✌️

Love this, so much! And I really like and respect Gloria Steinem! The point is this: a woman is "liberated ", if she is personally happy with her own circumstances. I'm all for women's rights, but Libbers don't need to tell me to burn my bra and refer to myself as a "nasty woman", etc... Who are they to tell me what makes me happy? A liberated woman is a self-defined woman... Whether she is a career girl, happy housewife, stripper, soldier, construction worker, etc... THIS is the point Jerry is making in this brilliant 3-minute comedy bit! It never gets old. LOL

It's not Political it's a comedy routine. Everything is not meant to be analyzed to search for a victim. Sometimes it can be so simple as an innocent attempt to make people laugh. Jerry did better than anyone...I heard him once say he wouldnt say anything on stage that he wouldnt say in church...

Feminist rudeness to a well bred Southern man is ubiquitous to the attitude of their movement that ruined how men will treat women for the next 200 years. My own father treats ladies, myself included, the way Mr. Clower did, and yes, we are from MS too. I just see too many men born after the 60's with no idea how to treat a lady, with consideration to their well being.

The pity of it is my former father-in-law absolutely LOVED Jerry Clower. My former father-in-law had ALL of his records. The trouble was my former father-in-law was so ANTI religion when he heard Jerry Clower was also an ordained Baptist minister my former father-in-law got rid of all of Mr. Clowers records. what a shame.I as a staunch conservative absolutely love leftist comics such as George Carlin.
