Then, one day, America gets a letter from the Russians that’s just a picture of the Cookie Cutter Shark and a postit that reads “I told you we didn’t do it. Btw new shark”

Sharks are also pretty damn smart. I remember an experiment where a nurse shark was put in a Y-shaped maze, and each exit had an electromagnet in it. The electromagnets would take turns turning on and off, and if the shark went to the exit with the magnet on, she was given a treat. But she figured out, hey, I can JUMP *OVER* THE WALL!

As a marine biologist I am so excited about this tier list. One thing I will say is at 1:21 even though they don’t have a swim bladder they have massive liveries full of a kind of oil called Squalene, and as we all know, oil floats on water. This allows them to have more buoyancy in the water and yet still not have a swim bladder. And while they don’t have full flaps, they have buccal muscles, where many species of sharks can use in the same way we use our diaphragm, and can pump water over their gills while laying completely still on the ocean floor. Obviously some species do need to move continuously because of ram ventilation and they don’t have these muscles, but often times these species that can’t are pelagic species and live in the open ocean and this doesn’t bother them.

Somewhere around c tier, there should of been a goblin shark, they might be small but they can do a massive amount of trolling. Either tricking a player into being friends until they launch their powerful jaws right into the player killing them instantly. I’d say that class might be pretty interesting. Sadly, they can only be played in the small deep water maps where there is not a lot of player except for some squid nerds who still play there. So either the goblin shark finds something smaller, or they will just get hunted down by something bigger. Like the more passive and powerful whale builds.

"players under 90% health lose all stealth bonuses" This one phrase DEFINES why this is such a great channel. You break down a fairly complex biological process and explain it in a way that speaks to a giant swath of the population who are far more familiar with gamer terminology than biology. You plant that image directly in the minds of people who may never have even thought of the concept and say it in a way that they can immediately picture it. You, my friend, are a MFing genius and I am bound and determined to watch everything you make. Keep it up, man.

He didn't go into anatomical and biochemical detail on a cellular level of how it actually works, which is the actual "fairly complex" part of it. Granted, it's cool that this channel gets gamers interested in Zoology, but this isn't really any high-tier stuff beyond anyone's understanding, unless repackaged in gamer terminology. I will shit my pants if he manages to explain in that fashion something like the Krebs Cycle.

A tried a cactus build once. While you can invest all the points normally put into mobility in defense, it essentially turns the entire game into tower-defense which locks off most of the best features. Also you only ever get to play in one server, most of which are pretty boring desert biomes. The defensive spines make for good protection against larger predator builds, but a lot of players often target you for hording all the water in the server. I've heard tumbleweed mains are one of the few plants that don't have 0 mobility, but are otherwise a pretty boring playstyle. I'd be interested to play a predatory plant like the venus fly trap though, most plant players don't bother investing in attack, and given that fly are among the most hated griefers in the current meta, it's a cool troll build.

TheAntiParadox I'd suggest keeping a distance from Venus fly trap build. It has really low INT capacity and slow lvling speed Something like blackberries can be fun as you still able to detour enemy players with a sugar bait, but keep your exp income bonus high

Hannah Henderson I think punches and the like in the water doesn’t depend entirely on the movement, but the strength and force that you put behind the attack, although I can’t say for sure.

I think it's not mentioned because, although it is a serious weakness, their are no builds that are currently able to exploit that. The rest of the sharks kit leaves so little room for counterplay that there are hardly any builds that even attempt a counterattack. Their intimidation debuff is too strong. Most other players just flee, so nobody can take advantage of it. The only build smart enough to know about this weakness, humans, have so many debuffs put on them entering the ocean server that their attacks, already weak, are unlikely to even land. Not to mention the humans are susceptible to the intimidation debuff of sharks, too.

Awesome video. I suggest that you check out a corny old cartoon from the 90s by the name of "Street Sharks", which is basically the skateboarding, surfing shark version of TMNT. If you want to see what would happen if you gave a surfing brody shark abilities, this is your type of show. P.S.: I'd love to see a TierZoo episode on cartoons featuring anthropomorphized creatures. Some groups might include Sharks, Rats, Turtles, Gargoyles, Felines, and if you're so inclined, even mecha/steel class if you include Beast Wars. The 80s and 90s were rife with anthropomorphized characters, so please make this an episode?

I remember back in the days I used to see a lot of Megalodon players. But you just don't see them anymore. I don't understand the necessity of constant updates removing older builds(and sometimes even a whole class). Like, who wouldn't want to play as a Megalodon, Moa or Mammoth? Although there are some rumours they're going to bring some Mammoth characters back into the game.

The problem is that the megalodon build was too OP, everyone worth griefing just left. Once the megolodon players realized this, they left too. I suspect that's where the hippo build came from tbh

Like you brief review of different types of strategies used by different members of the same family. A brief comment, I saw your video on Sharks. You described swordbill. I saw a video that demonstrated the swordbill used their sword similar to the way the hammerhead uses it’s hammer heads. Both A sharks use their appendage in soft bottoms as a way to find animals that burrow in the sand. The hammer head has a lot of sensors to find hidden animals to eat. I do not know, but it is possible that the sword has special sensors that when placed just under the soil- they are able to detect small hidden vert and invert- using the sand as a cover.
