The Shady Side of Tyler Perry

Ойын-сауық

It seems like nothing will stop Tyler Perry. Even if the critics don’t love his movies, his loyal audiences certainly do - with or without his famous Madea character. However, the filmmaker and actor has dealt with controversy from day one, and some would say the way he has responded to said controversy has only made things worse.
From feuds with fellow directors to even an alleged one with Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry isn’t afraid to stand up for what he believes in - even though a lot of people don’t like what he’s standing up for. Let’s take a look at the shady side of Tyler Perry.

Ok so apparently his shows, movies, plays, etc. reinforces black stereotypes but has anyone spent a second on BET...that whole network perpetuates black stereotypes tenfold and tells us what it means to “be black.” As if being black is only carried out through certain behaviors, ideas, and mannerisms therefore creating limitations to who black people are and have the potential to be. Furthermore, lumping our individuality into a small box. It’s great we have our own network but FUCK if you’re talking about stereotypes in the entertainment industry please talk about that first.

I have learned many things from his plays and shows. So I’m not seeing where it makes people look bad. I have aunts and uncles that act like some of the older characters in his shows. I have seen a lot of the drama that does be in his shows in my own family. Roosevelt ware right. I’m like i don’t see how people are quick to attack his stuff, but continue to support shows like Love and Hip Hop and Black Ink that represent us horribly. Yes i believe we should be represented better in the media. However, that does not mean we should be sugar coated, and depicted as if we do not have no flaws and we’re just so perfect. No we have kinks, we have imperfections, we struggle, and we fuss and fight as well. We have crazy grannies lol or aunts. We have, or may have known, or even know people dealing with some of the issues he addresses in his play. Those things do happen and we shouldn’t hide those things or pretend they do not exist. We should address them. Like Tyler does. He evens takes it a step forward and shows people how we overcome those problems

“He even went toe to toe with Oprah”?! SERIOUSLY??!!! Since when does ANYONE have to bow down to “the mighty Oprah”? I like Oprah, but let’s be real...she is merely a person, like you and me, who happens to have done well professionally and has a great amount of money. And, all of that boils down to the fact that none of that makes her any better than you and I, and yes, even Tyler Perry. Last I heard, Jesus is the only one who is perfect, so if Tyler disagreed with Oprah on something, it was perfectly acceptable to bring it to Oprah’s attention. {On a side note}: As far as that “toe to toe” part, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that because SO much in Hollywood is clearly exaggerated or even fabricated, I think I’ll just put this in the “yeah, whatever”🙄 category...

let me start off by saying that I am happy about Tyler Perry's success he is a force to be reckoned with. he worked his self from the bottom to the top and we all know at times that is not easy to do. all the movies that he has put out I give them all a thumbs up, but when it comes to his TV sitcoms, specifically his comedy shows, there really not that funny to me. the biggest mistake he ever made was when he decided to fire the writers of the shows and do all the writing himself. He also needs to learn how to take corrective criticism. It doesn't hurt to listen even when you think you have all the answers. I hope and pray that more success will come his way, but he needs to learn how to take a chill pill from time to time.

Not everything in this clip can be taken at face value as fact and "the full story". Sure drama happens, but a lot has changed since this clip was released. Both Oprah and Spike Lee, attended the opening of Tyler Perry Studios in Georgia just this month in Oct. 2019. And Perry even named a soundstage on the TPS lot after Spike Lee. Oprah and Tyler are on good terms.

This is in no way a "Let's Bash Perry Party", but one of my greatest frustrations with Mr. Perry has always been that he notoriously casts multitudes of the same faces in movie, after movie, after movie. This is no shade..., since I, too, work behind the sets in the industry. But in saying that, why not give the "average" man and the "average" woman an opportunity to take home a check also, being that more than half of those usually casted by Mr. Perry are already financially set? This comes with the deepest respect to Mr. Perry and is criticism yes. (but constructive criticism); Ironically, I did not go searching for this video. It was on my news feed upon logging on. I have never worked for Mr. Perry; nor do my comments reflect personal or professional disgruntle.

Nicki Swift your info on Tyler Perry's treatment of Mo'nique omitted quite a bit of the story. He and Oprah were not responsible for the downfall of Mo'nique. In point of fact the one to blame is her hubby/manager and Mo'nique herself. In the years that followed her Oscar win she had repeatedly demonstrated a "Diva" like behavior. For more info to back up my statement watch "The View" episode where she talks with Whoopie on her so called "blackbalding" and pay particular attention to Whoopie's reaction to Mo'nique's claim to being a victim of the Hollywood machine. Also look up Jawn Murray's video on his KZread page where he criticizes her actions while on the set of a Christmas movie special,(he backs up his comments with a letter written by the producer of that movie), she made in I think 2014. I could also advise to simply google Mo'nique and there you will get even more details on her relationship with Netflix and much more. It's a real pity because Mo'nique could have been a power to reckon with if not for her hubby's poor management of her career.

They did have a dispute about the directing of his movies. Oprah had suggested to him that he shouldn't direct everything himself, try letting someone else do it for you, but Tyler Perry wasn't having that, as mentioned in this video, directs everything himself. Now as far as him and Oprah not being friends, I don't think that is true. It's just a Veteran (Oprah) giving advice to a friend (Tyler Perry). Oprah was trying to suggest using some of her producer and directors, and he said NO.

Tyler Perry is a truly gifted man to write the movies and the characters... I admit I have laughed so hard watching his movies that I almost p'd my pants, BUT I also have cried with the characters. I'm a born again Christian... I truly believe that Tyler is able to bring blacks/whites together in a believable manner that touches those who are NOT racist... and brings Christianity, love, pain, humanity, real life events, drugs, etc and he shows how God, Jesus, and you can help save yourself... I don't like plays... but I've watched and purchased every movie.... I would love to meet Tyler and thank him for sharing his gift that God gave him.... he's definitely touched my life. May God continue to bless us all with Tyler Perry movies.... he could do my life, I have the old timers no racial mixing, being molested by family, having a mixed child that part of the family don't want, depression, and much more that is all true. I don't care for Perry's work but it seems like the most of the people complaining about him are women. Black women at that. To me it validates my theory that black women just cannot be happy. Sometimes well enough is well enough. Perry makes all these movies and plays that glorify women so you would think black women would be happy with that and they were for about 10+ years. Now they have turned on him and scrutinize his every move looking to pounce on anything. They want him to tell his stories their way rather than them creating a platform to tell their own stories.
