He's well-known enough for their achievements I feel. And you will need to remember there's never first. One might say that Lonnie Donegan was the first guitar hero given that he single-handedly set off a Countrywide skiffle craze.

Credit goes to the Shadows lead man HANK shoveling pop instrumental modern music on electric instruments/guitar The craft & skill created by him basically propelled a great number of past famous musicians & bands that appealed audiences,

Brings back memories

Bruce Welch told me that this documentary was filmed in November 2019 and that The Shadows didn't get to see any of the footage before it was first broadcast in Spring 2020.

Proper, genuine talent and such nice guys. We’ll never see their like again. God bless ‘em ! 👏👏

Hank looks amazing at 79. He was 80 on 28th October 2021. 💞💖

The sound of the 60's is unmistakable, a wonderful time with the best music.

The music of my youth. More than 50 years later, it has lost none of its charm. The magic remains intact.

My late Dad, a guitarist himself, was a huge Shadow's fan and had Apache running through his blood until he passed away in August 2018. He played it so well. When I hear Apache I think of Dad.

The musician who fronts the Shadows - Britain's most successful instrumental group - declined the honour while band members drummer Brian Bennett and rhythm guitarist Bruce Welch both accepted an OBE. In a brief statement issued through his personal manager Brian Goode, Marvin said: "I feel very honoured to have been recommended for an OBE and I'm happy that both Bruce and Brian have also been recognised. "However for personal and private reasons I've decided not to accept it."'

The quality of Hanks unique style is completely brilliant gave them a unique sound

Timeless legends

I met Bruce a few years ago very briefly. Absolute gent. Just a really lovely down to earth guy. Oh, and a great musician.

When I got my Mexican made Fender strat back in 2011, I quickly had the pick-ups swapped out for 50's ones, as I'm a huge shadows fan and wanted my strat to sound like Hank's, the result of the pick-up swap was my strat sounds just like Hank's, especially with that authentic Shadows echo added 😁 The shadows are absolute legends, their music will remain timeless forever and be loved and enjoyed for many generations 👍🏻

Il y a un groupe peu connu qui s'est approché très peu d'eux dans la sonorité : The Mustangs, un groupe finlandais.. leur leader est très doué. Mais je suis d'accord H. Marvin et ses potes reste le plus extraordinaire groupe de guitares 🎸 et quel son !

A brilliant instrumental that will live forever - just like Hank; he looks (almost) the same as he did sixty years ago, incredible!

I doubt there are many British guitarists around today who would not confess that they were - at the very first instance - influenced at the very least, to buy a guitar, learn it and play it by these four - fabulous - men. The Shadows also cemented the Fender Stratocaster into the British rock realm. No other guitar would epitomise the sound of the sixties instrumental playing as much as the good old Strat, with its cutting high-end and bell-like tones. The Shadows instrumentals were a musical underscore of the whole period. And Apache was usually the first thing any aspiring lead guitarist would undergo finger-cramps to accomplish. BRAVO GENTLEMEN ! And yes, they are all real *gentlemen.*

I have ALWAYS been a huge fan of The Shadows and saw them when they played in Melbourne - their skills have never waned ...

As a 13yr old my bedroom was covered with Shadows photos. I bought all their records singles EPs and their very first LP which has a track Nivram - Marvin backwards. Great to see& hear them sounding just as superb 60 yrs. on🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Almost 60 years. Bring them back from the dead. It's just like day one. Totally amazing! Hank Marvin and the Shadows deserve their walk the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

I remember it well (I'm 82) and it WAS different and pretty easy on the ears. It's nice to see other older guys still playing and enjoying it. Thanks guys.

Without doubt the very best instrumental of the rock n roll era and my personal favorite to this day.Sounds as good now as when I first heard 60 years ago.Timeless.

Hank you're the best guitarist of all time bar none even though I love Knopfler, Clapton, the Edge, jJimmy Page, Gerry Mcgee etc, and the reason is simply because you don't have any room for error, your notes are the words. Been lucky enough to hear you live.. Wow what a gift God gave you..please don't stop giving us new music..

Im so glad I was on this planet when these guys were. Total love and respect.

Bruce Welch just always seems to be a completely genuine guy. The young stars of today could learn a few things from him…first and foremost the music is your job…your trade… and ignore all the so called celebrity nonsense.

One thing I can never understand is comments from older people like this one is why you feel the need to imply criticism and indeed be explicitly critical of the subsequent generation. By all means compliment Bruce Welch but why the need to criticise younger people because they don’t fit your mould? As my mother used to say, if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.

Was a great tune.i learnt it around 1960 picked up the rhythm part first then learnt the lead. Took me so long to learn it back then age 18 i never forgot how to play it.

It's one of the most recognized tunes in the world.

They have been my favourite group since my teenage . Still my favourite .I grew up listening to them .I am 66 , still madly in love with them .They made my youth happy .Unmatched .

Hank Marvin , Bruce . . . , Wow ! the late 60s heroes are still popular. For many decades they have ruled the music world . I'm a big fan of SHADOWS . 🎸🎤📻🎹

Ohh that music! It takes me right back to the Saturday morning children's film club at my local cinema. They usually played Apache as we went in and settled down, and the sound of it playing loud and echoing round the auditorium gave me chills!

Oh the memories! My first record, that my father gifted me, was of The Shadows. I played it SO OFTEN that my parents regularly asked me to stop it. Thank you Sirs!

I was there when it happened. I had a 10" 4 track tape recorder and added my own words. 'slow down the railway, slowdown the train, my lovers back there,,,,,,,,, and so it continued. Hank Marvin took the guitar to the next level. And now we have Rap!

Hank Marvin is the soul.

That clean twangy guitar sound never ceases to do it for me. Its so pure, sweet honest and there s nowhere to hide like there is with distortion. knopfler and Albert Lee are two more of many fine clean sound exponents. Bless em all.

I saw them live in Cambridge, a good part of my life, first heard in my youth, never forgotten, how one tune creates such lasting memories.

I was 7 years old. This was just some the iconic sounds of music that defined the era and was playing in the background as I grew up through the 60's. Forever etched in my mind...... ✌🏻💕🇺🇸

Bruce’s guitar playing was second to none, for keeping the beat tight.

One of my favorite childhood memories. My father owned a fish and chip shop in Western Australia (the very first to have a jukebox in it, along with pinball machines) and this was played all the time by the kids coming in..., I was 6 and everytime I hear this I go back to being 6 all over again. Thank you Shadows.

Apache, one of those songs that always sweeps you away. I've loved this song since I was a kid. And even today at 50, the song has lost none of its magic.

The Shadows tune is ingrained in my brain even after decades.As a near teen i heard it on our radio in 60’s in India.Way too back.
