    I breed mine at 27C in a 60 gallon community tank I keep in a grow tent. My male likes to let her in right around every full moon. They seem to vastly prefer bug bites over super green repashi. I don’t do water changes, no stem plants, lava stone capped with black sand. I seem to get about 50 every month from a single pair. I use plant watering spikes but the male prefers a unique piece of wood to spawn. I use 24 hour grow light full surface covered in frogbit. During a move they spawned at room temp in a pressure cooker pot in my counter

    Thank you for the video. It has been helpful. I am currently the proud surrogate mother of about 50 Bristlenose babies. Mum and dad were both albinos. So it looks like all my babies are too. The first male I had, didn't like looking after his eggs. He is the father of my current babies. Someone kicked the eggs out and I managed to get most of the eggs into a separate tank. They are now ravenous and healthy babies. My new male (the father died) and my albino female have had some eggs together. The other female kicked them out I think, because the male was guarding them and the eggs got kicked out overnight. Couldn't get them hatch. My current babies are few weeks old and growing. It's helpful to know to do more frequent water changes to help them grow faster.

  • @JasonsCichlids

    @JasonsCichlids

    2 жыл бұрын

    Not a problem mate, glad it was helpful. Congratulations on your new Bristlenose babies! Oh ok eggs getting kicked out and sometimes be from a competing female who wants to spawn with the male. Not, always the case as immature males can also sometimes do this but if you have more than two or more females in there with one male then that can sometimes happen. It is a shame you didn't get a chance to try save the other clutch of eggs but it sounds like you will have lots more Bristlenose again soon! Yeah water changes are the key to growing them fast. But that does go for most species of fish as well. Good luck with your future spawns!

    Not a problem mate. It depends on the size of your male. Just as long as he can block the entrance with his body will be good. PVC will work. Just cap one end off or if you don't want to get an end cap, just use a heat gun to weld one end shut. Hope that helps.

    Not a problem Kim, glad you find it helpful. I admit I am very lazy when it comes to cleaning them. Over a month can go by before I clean one of the sponges of my double headed sponge filters. I suggest if you have double headed sponge filters that you only clean one. And then clean the other. Alternate which one you clean so the tank always has seeded media in it.

  • @JasonsCichlids

    If the male is sitting over the eggs and fanning them then everything should be fine. Otherwise, if the eggs aren't attached to the driftwood you can try raise them in a egg hatchery, I have raised the eggs up in devices similar to the Fluval Holding and Breeding Box (but used a cheaper brand that isn't made anymore).

  • @JasonsCichlids

    I personally keep 1 female for 1 male. I find having multiple females in a tank with 1 male can stress him out as all the females try to mate with him. If he is already guarding eggs from a previous spawn and another female wants to mate with him, she may try kick the previous eggs out of his cave. However, experienced males will be able to raise more than once clutch of eggs up at a time. Just make sure you give him a break between spawns as it can be stressful for the male.

    @@intergalacticmuffin7071 I would assume it’s either your water is too hard, there is a buildup of nitrogen waste in the tank, bad stock or the caves are the wrong size. I have soft water, 50% water changes 3 to 4 times a month, feed algae wafer and canned green beans/blanched zucchini every so often. 3x3 rectangle plecocaves added when I want them to breed. Stack them so they are off the ground as some males prefer it to be off the substrate. If you don’t see the males hanging halfway out of the cave, they aren’t going to breed. I have had too many to count breeding events over 10+ years with multiple tanks and different plecos.
