@@jamrep9633 I enjoy Lateralus the most too. That being said, I love all of their music and Maynard’s lyrics. With Danny’s sacred geometry and the length of time between albums, it wouldn’t surprise me if some or all of the numbers are purposeful and significant. On the other hand it could all be coincidental. We may never know for sure. To be honest, all the numbers and research put into this video had my head spinning! I think for me, I’ll just enjoy Tool’s musical masterpieces and not overthink the numbers. I have found Lateralus to be a spiritual experience. My favorite off of FI is Invincible, definitely a masterpiece.

During the music clinic events they did a little while back, some fans asked about Lateralus' theorized reordering in the 'Holy Gift" sequencing, as it seems to flow much more 'perfectly' than the CD ordering. Adam, Danny, and Justin all apparently acted like they had never heard of it, and that they released the album in the ordering that it was intended. Given their mystique, I would assume (as someone else here mentioned) either that A.) TOOL is operating on this insane level, and would want to keep that under wraps/likely would not be able to explain it if they tried. or B.) all of this really is coincidental and/or did happen but the band did not intentionally plan it out. Either way, it would make sense in their position to want to deny any of this, at least to keep up their "mysterious" brand image. Personally, I think-whether intentionally by design of the band or not- the synchronicities in TOOL's music are indeed happening, and contribute to the unique music fans can't seem to get enough of. Paraphrasing Maynard in the video, "I lose nothing believing it is real if it actually isn't," [and conversely; ..."but I may be missing out if I don't believe, and it is real"].

Only thing I geeked out truly over is the name of the track Litanie contre la Peur, which translates to Litany against Fear, which is a direct reference to Frank Herbert's Sci-fi classic Dune. Litany against fear: "I must not fear.Fear is the mind-killer.Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.I will face my fear.I will permit it to pass over me and through me.And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." Coincidentally, also has roots in Shakespeare which this video referenced as well.

@@MrMobileVortex I mean....33 or 58 are pretty specific numbers. You can only go so far with them. If one really thinks that the prevalence of 58 all throughout the album (and honestly I barely scratched the surface), like for example in Pneuma, the numerical additive sum of 7empest's 15:43, the numerical value of Noah, which is highly likely related to 7empest and Maynard's future catastrophe undercurrent, the abbreviated form of the name of Metatron the angel of the first sphere, which has a numerical sum of 620 which is the seconds count of Fear Inoculum, and the fact the 58 is the sum of the first 7 prime numbers and a mean Saturn Return number, in an album revolving around 7 and the Saturn Return, is coincidental, then, well....that is your opinion.

This is all very interesting. I’ve read that Mozart also included quite a bit of numerology in his works centering on freemasonry. I’ve liked Tool for a long time and this new album just grips me in ways that are hard to explain. Bits of lyrics just haunt me and bounce around my brain. “Wake up, remember.” Man, I love that line. I leaned just yesterday that Socrates posited that we all knew everything before birth and in the process of being born we forget. Life then becomes a journey to remember all that was lost. Wake up. Remember.

For those who are continuesly calling all of this coincidence (which in fact there is no such thing in the natural universe), have missed the entire point of Tool itself. They are smart enough to turn their egos off and let the universe do its thing, ala work through their subconscious, manifesting a microcosm and model of the universe itself in each of their albums from within and without the human framework. Alan Moore has done the same as well as many other actual great artists through history. Just because you like riffs and sound, doesn't mean these great artists have done decades of complex work and study off that same premise. Open your minds to possability; why else are you even here?

  • @liquidaudio_

    @liquidaudio_

    3 жыл бұрын

I agree that they follow their subconscious, I try to do that with my own musical creations. But I will also say that every thing this video points to, I highly doubt Tool consciously chose to do. The fact that it is subconscious means that it is true. Your subconsciousness is your real self devoid of all outside infiltration. That is why the number 7 is significant because artists have been depicting for generations from a subconscious feeling. But this idea of “coincidence” very well could be just people falling into this vortex of subconscious natural order. That’s the coincidence. I guess. I don’t know. I’m just stumbling through this universe with the rest of you.

Despite all of the numerology, it’s Shakespearean references that punctuate the breadth of the album, and, in doing so, flag one of its central themes: entropy. In Pneuma, corporeal existence is described as “this guise, this mask”. But it’s worth mentioning that, when archaically spelled ‘masque’, the word refers to a short play performed by (typically) nobility as a sort of opening act before a main dramatic production. These concise skits often began with ‘anti-masques’ that established a chaotic milieu, which would be corralled into order by the players in the subsequent ‘masque’; ultimately reinforcing an Elizabethan-era belief in the triumph of intentioned order over uninhibited chaos. In fact, Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ revolves around the magician Prospero, who conspires to produce a masque both as an act of revenge against his enemies as well as an allegorical morality play to educate his daughter, who is coming-of-age and soon to marry. He succeeds, and, with his enemies defeated, restores righteousness and order. Both Aenima & Lateralus open with songs that serve as expositions of negativity, and the albums proceed, alchemically, if you will, to turn these leaden initiations into golden finales. Think Third Eye & Reflection... Fear Inoculum, however, does the exact opposite. Starting with the eponymous first track, the album gets steadily darker, until it lands in that epic hurricane of a song, 7empest. This descent is Prospero’s work undone; the album ends with an anti-masque, in which chaos reigns triumphant, and all the king’s horses, and all the king’s men cannot put anything back together again. This, of course, is not to say that Tool has, in the passage of decades, become overly pessimistic. Rather, it seems that they’re pointing to the infallibility of spiritual development as a panacea for our increasingly unhinged epoch, while being honest about the entropic course our species is taking and the inevitability implied thereby.

First saw TOOL on the 2nd stage at Lolapalooza. I believe it was '93. I know they later took a spot on the main stage of that same tour after one of the bands left. I saw them many times in the years that followed and I was blown away everytime.

Wow! Just wow... Enchanting is an understatement. You've just introduced an enormous new layer of depth on to an already immensely deep art form.... Im in awe, this _really_ resonated with me, in more ways than there are words to explain. I used to think and see things in this way often as a child. When did I forget? How do I return to this place within me.. Absolutely magical, how much the vortex you just spun me through felt like home.... Thank you for taking the time out to explain and share this! Bravo! 🥰👏❤❤❤

Yes, for myself as well for reawakening a part of my past. The numerology aspects are eye-opening, and as was mentioned "only just scratch the surface." Also quite interesting was the symbology of the name"TOOL". Fascinating to the point of mind blowing. Which is fitting for a band as incredible as Tool. Wow is right.😊

I have many questions here: Each member of Tool has been going through all of this diligent joining sacred geometry, alchemy, and astrology together since the beginning! What then does this imply? What is the significance of doing such study and union? What is alchemy and astrology? Why is it all showing up again and again in the stars, in history, and on Earth? What teachings are here? What does this mean?

About the significance or purpose of all this. Besides that it is absolutely awesome to discover a record that way, I think it best shows in what Danny said, which was shown in the video. They believe in every bar, not just every verse and chorus, every bar of this record. It shows the passion they bring up creating this art. Personally I think this is a, if not the most important aspect of creating art. The energy that goes with it is so signifficantly different to something that is f.e. created only for the sake of earning money with it. For me it makes the escence of expieriencing art.

Of course these guys put every hidden meaning they can in their works. just like Alex Gray does. it seems impossibe to us, but all you have to do is think of ways to make concepts fit with your timing, or make your music fit a concept, not that hard. Whats hard is for us to find so many parallels, which most likely isn't everything, and the albums likely have some that were happy accidents

Man I have been a huge Tool fan since 93. I loved how they were not all over their videos and that they couldn’t care less if they were on the radio or not. Anyway I love how deep their music is , not only sonically but stuff like what this video is about. It is not just a song it’s art. Takes them forever to put out an album for this reason. That’s why it doesn’t bother me that it takes a long time. Love this bad.. this is a great video bud, you put a lot of work and research into it. I just wanted to say thank you for making this.. good job bud

You can dissect a lot of bands/music and find something similar, if this band plays outside of boundaries. And even if not. There's plenty of room for accentuation within 4/4. Your overanalyzation fits the mysterious tool just waaay better ;)! And I really appreciate your effort!! An example: everything is based on the golden ratio. Without exception. But on a different scale, we cannot simply see. If you force things into the ratio to make the obvious obvious, then it easily gets mystified. An artificial hommage, pretending to be something, that it already is ;)!

Shit, the rabbit hole is so deep, you could probably do a vid for each song on this album and all the others plus a vid for each album like this one, then a video for all the albums combined as one great concept album. For me there is definitely a similarity/connectedness of Third Eye, Lateralus, Rosetta Stoned, 7empest. Fractal music. 1.618

Saturn= 42, 21, 69 in the base ciphers... which I wish you included in the video. Saturn is represented by lead/black and Jupiter represented by purple hence why the album art work has both converging as an allegory to The Great Conjunction. The Greeks worshiped Zeus which is Jupiter, in Pneuma Maynard references the child releasing the light, aka Jupiter the son of Saturn, one spark, sun becoming references the conjunction and how it's appearance resembled that. Descending beings with the sound of ocean waves crashing as we enter the age of Aquarius ruled by Saturn, Jupiter is now Descending.

Fear Inoculum= 138 Thank you for this video, for the longest time I was trying to figure out the significance of 138 and why it was released on 8/30. Most people do not understand the significance of the time period, we are living through, let alone magick; and thus why the art the band put out is so heavily coded and ritualistic.

That moment you realize Tool are just a group of math and music geeks . They love the creation and process even if half their fans never dig deep enough to catch on . They put so much more deeper thought and math into their work than they get credit for . Half if not more of their fans have no clue what any of this even means. Some criticized the band for how this album turned out and thought Tool just sat around for 13 years for the hell of it and then threw an album together last minute cause perhaps the wallets were getting a bit light. . Minds are blown now realizing there was a lot of mathematical significance, timing and deeper meaning involved in the release .

That said, Tool do a lot of this intensionally and it is astounding that they do it and still the music is top tier.
