Video Transcript:
“Success at almost anything rests upon this single principle: Master the basics. Do the basics, do them well, and do them every day, especially when you don’t feel like doing them.
It doesn’t matter if it is sport, personal finances, physical fitness, marriage, parenting, military operations, small business, big business, or your spirituality…. The same principal applies. Practice the basics with heroic perseverance.
This is one of the reasons most people don’t become phenomenally successful. They lack the persistence to do the same things over and over, to focus on the smallest improvements in the most mundane parts of whatever it is they are doing. Success at almost anything is usually the result of being the very best at four or five things, and they are usually the basics.
Mastering the basics is the secret to success… at anything!”

It has always amazed me how many people have no qualms about asking questions about things that are none of their business or just to justify their opinion of the person. I remember one person I worked with years ago asking a customer when she was due-she wasn't pregnant! She felt bad after that, so hopefully learned something from it. That has stuck with me through the years. I always have in the back of my mind that we are supposed to "treat others the way we want to be treated". Never hurts to be reminded about what not to do or say.

Such a great message, Matthew. We can get so caught up in the "shiny new object" that we forget how important it is to go back to the basics. "Do them even when you don't feel like doing them." ...Not easy, but simple.

I always get distracted and I am on to the next new thing that has caught my eye. I regularly do the examen before bed. I am trying to get back going on my quilting and writing and of course my family. Trying to add a devotional book but it’s a hard habit for me to do regularly. Anyone have any ideas to share?Thank you Matthew Kelly you are always spot on!

What works best for me in terms of reading devotionals is setting my alarm a half hour earlier than usual and with a morning coffee doing them. It has become one of the highlights of my day. My time with the Lord.
