A bit off topic for this video, but I have seen from your videos that you practace a sword style that is quite different from the one that I practaced as part of Iwama style Aikido. If anything, from how far you allow the blade to travel on strikes makes me think it could have similar roots to a sword style I have seen practaced in Hombu style Aikido. It would be interesting to get your impressions of other Japanese sword styles and maybe help to raise awareness of them outside of Japan as most people hear 'Japanese sword style' and think of Kendo as that is the only one that is well known (at least here in the UK).

Wagakki Band is what got me interested in Japanese music & culture ten years ago. I remember hearing their cover of Senbonzakura and instantly falling in love with it.

In western music, phrasing like he was talking about is quite important too. I have often marked the sheet music for where to breathe so that I was ready to play through an important phrase without interruption.

Another beautiful performance! This is why I enjoy multi-instrument somgs--i love listening for the contribution each type of instrument brings! I can definitely sense the Buddhist influence that shakuhachi offers: the innately serene and simplistic design... the holistic adaptation to other instruments... the way it accommodates the feel of a song (phrasing) over its structure. ...the shakuhachi truly has a distinctive character! With the two slow and gentle traditional songs that you played in the videos, it's really hard to imagine Kaminaga playing in a loud, brash genre like heavy metal 😅... I definitely respect his range.

Well done. Hibiki is quit lovely and talented in her own right. Such a wonderful experience for you. I'm sure your nerves were hard to deal with. The Koto is probably my favorite of the traditional instrument. It has such a beautiful tonality. The fact that he took such time to not only talk with you, but also play and give pointers, is a true gift. Its speaks greatly to his character as a person.

I listened to Wagakki Band a while ago and thought they are great. I started listening to Kagrra, in like 2004 and loved the combination of traditional instruments integrated with rock music. So I was happy to see another band emerge from that type of music. Always wondered if Kagrra, inspired them.

I wished the video could have been longer for some of the insights KD shared. I'm not a fan of game music and most of my knowledge of the shakuhachi was learned from your videos. I'm going to save this video for future reference because there were elements he shared about Japanese music theory I was unaware of. When I began studying and playing Japanese music, I have to back into a lot of things with videos and articles to fill in gaps. Since I don't read or speak Japanese, a lot of information and resources are not available to me. Well done! Thank you.

I’ve been a huge fan of wagakki band ever since I heard their version of Senbonzakurai. I’ve been listening to several Japanese musicians for a long time like Malice Mizer, Gackt, HYDE, Megumi Hayashibara, the Gazette, to name a few. Wagakki Band quickly became one of my favorites.

I love his interview style where he just speaks in the same language as the interviewee. 👍 Voicing over or just using plain subtitles is more respectful to the interviewee. In NHK and most channels, we see the interviewer asking in English and the interviewee have to pretend to understand the question, before the question is asked in the native language behind the scenes.
