I mean this is just pure participation and creating within the certain tradition or culture, not caring about arbitral "if it belongs to my culture". you know, what I'm trying to say is that maybe the real traditionalism and participating in culture is inherently tied to constant evolution and creating there something that's your own and new. in short tradition is destined to evolve that's what I was trying to say, sorry that it's so long haha

A lot of depends on perfect orchestration as well. Sound crew is half of the job, but well orchestrated piece is the other half. For example, you'll hear that flute solo is never playing at the same time as the guitar solo, because they would clash. Etc.

I love how each band member has their own unique style that matches their instrument and that style or look is consistent in every performance. The flute player always looks like a clean-cut monk, the lead singer always looks like an edgy princess, the base player a cool tomboy, the lead guitar always wears something slightly scary, the Taiko drummer for some reason always looks like Sasuke from Naruto so he's a ninja, the Shamisen player always the punk rocker sexy-chick, drummer always has the blonde hair and looks like a warrior, the guy who plays the Japanese harp always looks simple but refined/elegant. I hope they never change their style. I love it.

I've never heard of this band, but they sound cool. Japan always has dope stuff! Love Japan!
First time hearing this band, and they immediately kill it with one of the most beautiful melodies I heard in the decade. I think I became an instant fan.
the intro was like 'damn, they're good but not really my kind of music', the moment the shamisen broke in I was sold to them, there's something about that instrument that makes everything sound 10 times better to my ear :)) and fom there it got better and better...awesome band and their sound engineer is a monster

It might be that the Japanese instruments hit those pentatonic notes, and the western instruments go for octatonic. I don't know shit about music, but I recall that's a major difference b/t Eastern and Western canon.

You just have to love the joy and energy these people have and give to their audience. Tradition and modern music all combined together make this band one of the best I ever listened to.
It's interesting how people are still surprised, that classical (or traditional) instruments fit so well into heavy metal. Symphonic pieces and Operas are often heavy metal like. And Electric guitars don't sound too diferent from Cellos and Violas...

that's because you barely listened a symphony in your life. There is a lot of classical pieces that will blow your mind as metal do and you don't know.. just you stick in these kind of melodies that not go far from three chords....just go far as you can as Pachebel with Cannon (I recommend variations from George Winston), or from this century music from Ennio Morricone, try to hear all the music of one classical comp, and then do your opion.

Espetacular! Lindo , lindo , lindo.

I'm almost sure the shakuhachi flute guy is just dancing and pretending to play a pre-recorded track. There's no way - i play a little shakuhachi and the flute has to be positioned perfectly against the lip to get any sound at all, the way he's waving his head and flute all over the place would definitely cause him to miss some notes even if he wasn't dancing and jumping all over the place. There's definitely some pre-production and studio multitracking magic happening behind the scenes.
