The Secret To Ethiopian Airlines’ Incredible Success
Ethiopian Airlines is by far Africa’s leading airline and is twice the size of number-two carrier, EgyptAir. In fact, it has grown faster than the rest of Africa’s top-10 put together. What has driven its success?

I flew from Los Angeles to Djibouti via Ethiopia. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the aircraft, the professionalism of the crew, the food, and the free WiFi!
I have flown with Ethiopian Airlines multiple times! The experience was AMAZING! Especially on their 777s, & 787s! Me myself I am Egyptian! I have flown with Ethiopian Airlines more than EgyptAir! Ethiopian Airlines aircraft I have been on: • 737 (Only twice) • 767 (Only once) • 777 (Only twice) • 787 (Only 10 times) EgyptAir: • 737 (Only once)

Im your 103rd subscriber. Im quite sure you told TAA to make the tenerife air disaster in TFS, right?
ET is my airline of choice. My view is that their success is based on a sustained adherence to a disciplined work culture coupled with government ownership that does not interfere with the business of running the airline, unlike the majority of African airlines that are the subject to endless and ruinous political machinations!
I've flown with Ethiopian between Hong Kong and Johannesburg with a transit in Addis. Nice 787 aircraft and service was pretty good. They also offered the lowest price for that route which was a bonus. I'd fly with them again.

I remember those old crates. Saw one taking off once in mumbai, India, while our flight was waiting for take-off, this was late 80's early 90s!!!
Ethiopian didn't jump on the A380 bandwagon and they're likely better positioned for longer-term success than those having to reconfigure their fleet post-pandemic. They have well-regarded customer service and I would love to fly them some day.
Flown multiple times with ET, it's the only airline covering and serving 95 % of Africa. Always on time, never had delays, very good connections with local hubs and regional subsidiaries airlines such as Asky airlines service west africa. Never lost a luggage, very decent pricing. Primarily on board pleasant service.
It is an outstanding airline it doesn't only counts just being the best but it is employees and management team they work from the hart, and most of all they are proud of it because they really put their heart into it. I give it five star.
Ethiopian Airlines succeeded because it got the necessary certification to fly to Europe, North/South America, and Asia while most other African competitors are either blacklisted or unable to buy new planes and keep on maintaining them.

Kenya airways, South african and Egypt Air have been flying to Asia and Europe. The problem comes to management. Infact ethiopia rose in the 2010s while Kenya airways and South African were ahead of ethiopia
Never flown. But very interested to fly with. Best Wishes to Ethiopian Airlines.
Top quality service and management. Great! keep it up! Ethiopian Airlines.
They're the best! Had been a frequent flyer on SAA for over 10 years, once I began flying with Ethiopian I never went to SAA
The food on board was incredible.
The spirit of Africa! Enjoyed my flight with the Airbus A350 to Addis Ababa in 2019. Lovely crew!
Flown a few times, NRT to SEZ via ADD & HKG, and NRT to HKG. Good price, service and product, very economical from a passenger's point of view.
The secret is down to Management. It grew exponentially since 2011. I hope it stays like this.

Ethiopian Airlines is the reason for African aviation being relevant
I think they are great :) they even fly to the Philippines :)
I have been flying with Ethiopian airlines many times and my experience was amazing. With a very small or no delay and safe flights, I like it very much. Much more enjoying its very latest airoplanes like B787-9 and A350-900.
I've flown them domestically in Ethiopia and internationally. Fantastic airline! Geography is very important as mentioned - it's certainly the transit hub for Africans travelling to Europe, Asia and North America! Also domestically it's VERY well connected, cheap, and reliable.
Flew with them twice. Clearly a rapidly growing airline as the service quality is not stable. One with amazing service and one with average service. However, I can tell they are passionate about flying and care about their customer. Given time they could be the economical version of ME3 carriers.
The best well coordinated airline in Africa
I have flown with Ethiopian Airlines last year. My flight was to Dubai with their 777-200. It was fantastic and amazing.
Brilliant strategies. Love Ethiopian airlines 😀
One good demonstration for the effectiveness and dynamic nature of Ethiopian is the way they make a profit during the pandemic while keeping all their staffs and request no public bail-out. They quickly remove the chairs of 21 B777 and transport massive cargo which was a demand at that time. This makes Addis Airport the main COVID supplies distribution hub for Africa. Good Job ET and carry on!
Great video, very insightful 👌 I have not yet flown with ET but looking forward to doing so and wishing them every success

Wow. There's something to be said for government owned versus private market when you have good management.
Makes one wonder if the only way to really compete is to be government owned or backed.

Ethiopian is government owned, but privately managed. The government only visits 1 time per year to collect dividends on the profit. Ethiopian is also 1 of the only airlines in the world who didn't need government money during the pandemic.
Good business management
Great airline.
The Addis hub is a drag if you're coming from North America and trying to go to West Africa. Much more time than routes that go via Europe, but sometimes it's so much cheaper that it's worth it. Hopefully they start offering more NA-Togo-destination flights in the future.
Have flown with Ethiopian several times. Been on their 787 and 737-800 and 737 Max 8. Very efficient airport in Addis. Once had only 20 minutes between flights because of a delay, but both me and my luggage got on my connecting flight. :O)
I always wondered how they could be so successful, that's awesome!
I've seen a couple of their planes in storage at MCI. Couldn't get a clear photo of them though to tell what they were.

I love Ethopian Airlines I'am ADWA !!! Adwa Vicory Africa !!!
In 2004, My first flight from Addis to Washington, the comfort was a nigh mare, by 2010, the comfort was excellent even for economic class.
Ethiopian is successful I think because they made it a point to start early in their history to prove themselves as a carrier that can mix in with the best from Europe, Asia and the US, in terms of their network, partnership with other airlines and countries, etc. FAA recognised since the early 90s I believe. Also, the thing with Africans, they’re very harmonious, they work well together, they’re very happy people. In a company, that’s only going to be a good thing for morale and company performance. This is the case for other African carriers too, just that they’re not as big as Ethiopian. Would love to fly them one day!
I have Flown on Ethiopian Airlines. It is the best in Africa
Agreed that Ethiopian is the New Spirit of Africa! Indeed, it’s still always that! Yeah I seen their aircrafts several times at my home airport in YYZ, pretty awesome. I even have some interest to want to fly on them one day as I always also wanted to see Africa (probably South Africa 🇿🇦)

I've done it from YYZ, it's an OK flight. Definitely worth paying extra for a nicer hotel during the stopover. The free hotel they give you isn't really amazing.
I had never flown with Ethiopian airlines and I had never been in Africa at all as far as I heard Ethiopian airlines is planning to serve YUL in the future.
Also a good airlines is vital for the countries internal travel as mountains are hard for train and road development and for a land locked country. Ethiopian gets to pick the best high school students in the whole country and train them their way from an early age. It creates adherence and high loyalty.
You should do a video on Aeromexico, Skywest, and Air Canada

Famine in Ethiopia was what started the whole live aid/band aid thing. Nice to see what they spent the billions of aid on - shiny 787's.
I have flown on their 777, Dash8 and 737. Their crew is really nice but I hate the congestion at their airport. Their competitive pricing is what is chocking all the other African carriers out of their way.
I did 916 hours last year on their 737-700/800/800SF … soon the MAX will be back ;-)
I hope Ethiopian Airlines survives the pandemic. I hope Ethiopian Airlines stay in the 'Star Alliance'. I have got an account in the 'Star Alliance'. It will be nice to fly with Ethiopian Airlines in the future.

I do fly Ethiopian and Emraites
Not as good as the ME3 but still above average. The only thing I hated was ADD airport but that was in 2017 and I am told that the new terminal is being opened in stages now . It was a terrible airport to have to go through...
African customers are prices driven and ethiopian airlines got it well. I have been flying ethiopian airlines since 2016 every time i travel because of one reason; nobody beats their prices. Where other carriers charge $500 u get same at $400 or less on ethiopian airlines. Definitely there's a lot technical reasons for their growth but on surface everyone i know choose ethiopian airlines because it makes sense on costs and yes, they're timely. Its hard for ethiopian airlines to have a delayed flight
Have flown Ethiopian 3 times. If it wasn't for being an African airline it would be no more notable than United.
A true role model for the growing number of successful and thriving businesses on the African continent ...well done to them and their professional staff 💯👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Ethiopian is the best. I heard a lot of the success also comes from the government taking a hand-soff approach and letting them operate as a profitable company.
I am surprised that they havent streamlined and gone all airbus.

*Great job* Simple Flying, as an Ethiopian aviation enthusiast I can help ensure that this video is pretty accurate, and these are the things I sub for 👍. Unfortunately however, the airline, as great as it is, has been becoming more racist towards minority ethnic groups in the country and it's very unlucky to see this coming from Africa's #1 airliner. Otherwise, the airliner also has huge future potential and I hope they use that well 🇪🇹 And yes, I have flown with Ethiopian Airlines many times before, though I don't think I'll be flying there again for a while due to the reasons above

The new aircraft are a huge improvement in the hard product over the old 767s. Lie flat seats in business are great on red eye flights back to London. The food in business and the lounge in Addis needs a lot of work - I sent lunch back in business on the flight from Malabo to Addis as it was dreadful. For the price and overall service, I will fly them again without problems - be careful with your star alliance points, very often I had to chase them via Lufthansa by sending in the boarding pass stubs to get them weeks later! Sloppy!
